I sleep with my 2ur old and my dh sleeps in a separate room for now I have heavy periods which means despite wearing maxi pads and tampons combined I’ll always have a heavy night. I leave changing the sheets till my period has finished. Is this skany or ok?

Have u tried sleeping on a towel? I have the same problem and can completely understand where ur coming from. I got sick of changing the sheets every day so I started to sleep on a towel

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 19:06

Is ‘have you tried a towel?’ the new cancel the cheque? 😂

Nimmykins · 26/05/2020 19:08

I'm a skank. I'd rather wait until it's over than change three lots of sheets.

Jashartsx · 26/05/2020 19:09

I’m so surprised by the amount of women on this thread that think it’s gross! It’s period blood, it’s not urine or vomit or anything!!

Makinglists · 26/05/2020 19:15

Washed but with a stain you can't get out is fine. Unwashed - sorry that's grim unless its very small.

midnightstar66 · 26/05/2020 19:23

It's still a bodily fluid. Womb lining mixed with cervical mucus! Would you not change sheets after a night sweat or big nose bleed? Or leaking breasts after child birth?

SharonasCorona · 26/05/2020 19:36

I think the Honour Your Flow mega pad sounds great. At £15 each they’re not cheap but a good investment as washable.

MadamShazam · 26/05/2020 19:37

I share a bed with my daughter and if i've leaked during my period i will absolutely change the sheet! And I am quite skanky!

Highonpotandused · 26/05/2020 19:39

Yes we all know we can change the sheet, put a towel under our bum, wash out blood stains.

Let’s not state the obvious people and find ingenious solutions.

Harls1969 · 26/05/2020 19:44

Oh chick, get yourself a mirena coil. Honestly I used to have horrendous periods - I'd need to change at least hourly during the day and at night I'd wear two of the super ++ tampons (side by side) and as many pads as I could fit in my pants and I'd still flood. It made me anaemic. Got a mirena fitted - no periods for the past 12 years. I'm nearly 52 and hoping that I'll never have another one!

glasgowLil · 26/05/2020 19:48

Have you talked to the dr about how heavy they are? I take tranexamic acid to control heavy periods and it does work. I also used to wear a sanitary towel and then wear a nappy that I kept in place with a second pair of pants. They are really absorbant. It worked really well to catch any leaks from the sanitary towel. I have also used this disposable bed pads but they move about a lot in the night. Xx

Justsocross · 26/05/2020 19:49

I was the same I ended up using a child’s waterproof sheet and towel that I washed daily . Thank goodness fir the menuopause now I just sweat a night Confused

Rainbo83 · 26/05/2020 20:15

Get some tranesamic acid prescribed if not already. It changed my life!

MummyMayo1988 · 26/05/2020 20:20

I find running the sheet under the cold tap then straight in the wash if I have a leak works really well. I wouldnt be able to leave them on for a few days tho 😬 I'd feel all mucky getting into bed (I shower every night)

MumWifeMe · 26/05/2020 20:29

Have you tried tranexamic acid? My 15 year old DD has been prescribed it from our GP. It’s made her periods much lighter and less painful too.

KisstheTeapot14 · 26/05/2020 20:31

Charity shops usually have a million donated bath towels and assorted bedding. Once they open, if it was me I'd ask what they want for a bagful and use these, just give them a good hot wash - can always be chucked if they get very stained.

No judgement from me, just what I'd do if I were you.

Heavy periods must be a nightmare to live with.

I got put on mini pill (always got migraines on run up to period) and now don't have periods - maybe worth another chat with a different GP as to options?

adognamedhog · 26/05/2020 20:36

Can you wear period pants over your normal pants and towel? The minibodi boyshorts are quite good for stopping leaks as an extra layer.

Mo81 · 26/05/2020 20:36

Op you could ask your gp about meds to lessen the flow i havesome called transemic acid it makes a big difference i used to e as heavy as you.

Feefsie · 26/05/2020 20:37

Could you wear an incontinence pant? They must be very absorbent. Also I think you should go to the doctors if your periods are that heavy. I always had heavy periods and was constantly washing, laying on a towel etc.

Makinglemonadefromlemons · 26/05/2020 20:44

Have you considered using a menstrual cup? They hold a lot more than a tampon & are so much more eco (& financially) friendly.
I use a cup & super sanitary towel.
I would use a towel under me that I washed each day, I couldn’t leave blood on my sheets.

Muddyslippers · 26/05/2020 20:56

@dudsville

You poor thing, your period sounds awfully heavy. I can understand not wanting to, or having the bedding supplies or energy to change your bedding each night. You do what you can to look after yourself and don't ask others to judge you.
Yes, you must be very tired too. What dudsville said.
SallyB392 · 26/05/2020 21:04

Must be a generational thing, I'd say might be worth popping a mattress protector on if you haven't already, but I suspect your period blood is no worse than some of the unmentionable marks on our sheets the same day as we put clean ones on, and those are just from the dog.......

As long as it doesn't bother you it's fine!

GigglingElephant · 26/05/2020 21:07

Have you heard of period pants? I haven't tried them but a friend was raving about them recently. They're supposed to be used instead of pads or tampons and allegedly leak proof. Could be worth a shot, instead of worrying about changing the sheets.
As for me: I sometimes sleep with a towel if it's a heavy day. If I leak, I have to admit I do leave it till period is over to change the bedding. But the staining is never 'serious' (we're talking some spotting, or one small patch). If it was to the point that the mattress would get stained then I would change bedding each time. At the end of the day, what's important is what you're comfortable with :-).

exaltedwombat · 26/05/2020 22:01

OK, a bloke's opinion doesn't count for much here. But 'health risk'? I mean, it's not poisonous or anything is it?

afrikat · 26/05/2020 22:03

I have a similar issue and always change the sheets I couldn't stand to leave them on. I also put towels down on the nights I know it's likely to be bad so I can just chuck those in the wash
