@davidcicilline

Biden went out to a protest site to listen to folks today. The President hid in the White House bunker because there were protesters across the street.

Tells you all you need to know.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 01/06/2020 07:43

Apparently it was only on Friday pm and for an hour or so...

apnews.com/a2326518da6b25b4509bef1ec85f5d7f
Secret Service agents rushed President Donald Trump to a White House bunker on Friday night as hundreds of protesters gathered outside the executive mansion, some of them throwing rocks and tugging at police barricades.

Trump spent nearly an hour in the bunker, which was designed for use in emergencies like terrorist attacks, according to a Republican close to the White House who was not authorized to publicly discuss private matters and spoke on condition of anonymity. The account was confirmed by an administration official who also spoke on condition of anonymity.

The abrupt decision by the agents underscored the rattled mood inside the White House, where the chants from protesters in Lafayette Park could be heard all weekend and Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers struggled to contain the crowds.

Hi all - I’m still around and dipping in and out of the thread. I’ve taken an extended break from all things Trump for last couple of months or so as I’ve found - particularly coupled with COVID-19 - the sheer obstinate stupidity of social media posters was getting to me. It still is, of course, as they are still as stupid as the Earth is round, but I’m getting over it and need intelligent company. I know I’m assured of finding that here!

Lweji · 01/06/2020 08:28

Biden didn't just listen.

He kneeled.

Hey Claws
Yes agree... I think I need to walk away too, the frustration for me is enormous, (especially this Cummings thing)

TheNorthWestPawsage · 01/06/2020 09:15

Likewise Rousette. Frustration is the right word.

We are not the only ones suffering from frustration - the usually positive Dan Rather has been sounding more and more despondent these past few days, sadly. I am worried for him. I attach a screenshot of his three latest posts to Facebook, there are more on Twitter.

The only trouble with taking the knee at this point is that -- well, kneeling on his neck was how Chauvin killed George Floyd. It could be open to deliberate misinterpretation by fascist thugs. I just hope they don't think of it.

Trump sending out inflammatory tweets pouring petrol on the fire and then running off to his bunker
Like a little boy who mischievously knocks on doors and then runs away
That's all it is to him, a bit of mischief, a bit of fun, stirring up trouble for his own amusement

lionheart · 01/06/2020 13:55

Remember this? Let's hope all his chickens come home to roost.

“He is obviously in way over his head,” said LaTosha Brown, a civil rights activist and co-founder of Black Voters Matter.

“He doesn’t have a clue. He’s a TV personality. He has a cult following that’s centred around this white power broker persona rooted in white supremacy and racism. Wherever he goes, he carries that role and that kind of persona, but ultimately right now with what we’re looking for in this country is real leadership. He is incapable of providing that because that’s not who he is.”

Brown added: “He’s a personality. He’s used to these dog whistles and, instead of trying to uproot division and seeing that the citizens are actually in pain and hurting, he doesn’t have the capacity to address that. He actually adds fuel to the flames and shows how fundamentally intellectually disconnected he is from what is happening and also how ill-prepared he is as a leader to respond to that.”

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 01/06/2020 14:25

"Didn't Know" the origin of 'When the looting starts, the shooting starts.'

"Didn't Know" the history of threatening to set dogs on civil rights protests.

""Didn't Know" where 'Amerca First' and 'Enemy of the People' originate.

Do you suppose he knows what Chauvin-ism is?

AcrossthePond55 · 01/06/2020 15:16

I just wish the media (ALL the media) would stress a little more that many (most?) of the looters and those inciting violence are NOT part of the actual organized protests.

It suits the GOP and Scrotus' purpose that the violence continues. It reinforces the beliefs of his racist base and (they hope) enough 'undecideds' that 'the Left' is the root of all evil, that the 'others' are to be feared so they better vote GOP in November. That's why he's not making any kind of statement asking for calm and for discussion let alone a call for racial unity. He'll be using this as 'ammo' for his reelection.

Lweji · 01/06/2020 16:16

I wasn't aware there was an anti-Trump Republican super PAC.

Now taking aim at Mich McConnell. Grin

But not sure how significant this is.

AcrossthePond55 · 01/06/2020 17:09

Nice! I'd love to see McConnell tumble off his GOP-placed pedestal.

"You have to dominate or you'll look like a bunch of jerks, you have to arrest and try people," the President told governors in a call from the basement White House Situation Room.

"It's a movement, if you don't put it down it will get worse and worse," Trump said. "The only time its successful is when you're weak and most of you are weak."

Yes, Governors and LE Officials, let's just get the jack-boots on. Fuck him!

Roussette · 01/06/2020 17:20

Oh my goodness Across that's awful. From the footage I've seen there's a helluva lot of peaceful protests, that seems to get ignored?

AcrossthePond55 · 01/06/2020 17:42

Well, as they say in the news biz "If it bleeds, it leads".

Video of rioters and looters will always get more 'attention' than peaceful protesters taking a knee and holding up signs.

B1rdbra1n · 01/06/2020 17:59

in a call from the basement
hiding in the basement, yeah that's a really dominant position to take Hmm
People might respect a 'firm but fair leader' but a lying cheating, fast and loose both ends to the middle slippery con man
aint no one gonna respect that
