Us mere Mumsnetters knew over 2 weeks ago that people were signing up for rally tickets as a joke, so you'd think that the mighty Trump 2020 campaign would have somehow picked up on that too? He won't have got the MAGA feelz he was hoping for. Shame

That quote about if you test less for coronavirus it means there will be fewer or no cases of coronavirus as a reault is the ultimate in stupidity. Did you see Trevor Noah on the subject last week? "Trump is right: If we stop testing, we’ll have fewer cases of corona. Just like if Black people stop recording cops, we’ll have fewer cases of police brutality."

I have always had trouble with a lot of his statements, whether it be on Twitter or elsewhere.
Some of the tweets, I actually have to go and look for the blue tick because I cannot believe it isn't a parody account. And on the parody accounts (some are very funny), I believe it is Trumpy and it takes a minute to sink in that it isn't.

They did overbook. 1 million would have been immense and they may have prepared for about 100 000.
Still, it looks like they didn't quite get the impact if it was more like 10 000. That's only 1%.
But, realistically, did they expect those many people wanting to travel at the risk of staying outside?
The overbooking may well have backfired. People should be rewarded for going, not threatened with having to stand outside.
Or maybe they just wanted the 1 million to stick in people's heads and hope that fans won't notice the empty seats.

It was 6,200 apparently which is even worse! They had the capability for more, but the outside venue for the second speech was dismantled before Trump even went on stage.

If they stop testing for coronavirus that means coronavirus no longer exists
So using Trump's methods of 'reasoning'...... if people stop showing up to trump rallies trump no longer exists

It's only one rally and like one swallow, it does not a summer make but for Trump to be a loser, to lose, to be seen to be loosing is something he absolutely cannot bear. So... if more rallies follow with the same results do you think he might come up with a Trump "I'm not a loser" appropriate reason for not standing for re-election? The GOP convention is August 24th so he's got a couple of months to come up with a good one... wants to spend more time with his wife and youngest son Ivanka?

Given Parscale got him elected (he's the one with Cambridge Analytica strategy), that would be funny to watch.

Except I suppose it would also be a measure of the fact he doesn't need Parscale now he's actually through the door. These days he can do things like appoint Barr to trash the judicial arm of government for him.

The BBC photo doesn't give quite the same impression as that one in the Guardian. It doesn't show only the people crowded up close to him, poor saps.

I am absolutely fascinated by Bolton's book.
Not sure why I'm gripped... at least I understand Bolton better.
I think he wrote this as a historical record of his perspective & experiences.
I hate many of JB's opinions & prioritiess, but as a document of history (palace intrigue, and even his own mistakes), his memoir is as good as they come.

There is a similar shape/size sports arena in my home town so I quickly guessed about right that the Tulsa rally crowd was only about 7000. There are videos of audience yawning... Love the teens who trolled by getting a million tickets. Is a rumour that a text was sent to ticket holders 'There's still room!' And the crowd was flat with Eric, wife & Pence.
