Breaking story CNN:

SCOTUS blocks Scrotus' efforts to end DACA.

Re the NY'er article...do I think Bolton is motivated by altruism? Oh fuck NO! He's a self-centered, greedy son of a bitch who doesn't mind getting a little revenge whilst making himself a nice pile of cash. And by refusing to testify about all he knew, I'd class him as unAmerican and a traitor to his fellow citizens.

Do I think his book is a 'compilation of lies and made up stories' written for 'revenge'? No, I think it's the plain, unvarnished truth.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 18/06/2020 16:08

I do hope that, at the very least, Trump is having sleepless nights and permanent indigestion from all these media/publishing "assaults" Grin Poor Boo Boo Bunker Baby aka President Poopypants. Wouldn't want to be downwind of a man named Trump...

Trump wants to find and prosecute whoever told media about bunker visit: NYT

When you are being put in doubt, I mean sorry when in doubt, reach for your lawyer.

a little revenge whilst making himself a nice pile of cash
surely he'll be first in a long line of people looking to do the same, each successful attack on trump emboldens all the others who have patiently waited for the right moment...

lionheart · 18/06/2020 19:10

I agree Across.

Delighted about the DACA ruling.

I hope so B1rd , I surely hope so.

I think that what will stop certain people in Scrotus' 'orbit' from 'tell-alls' is that they've signed NDA. These would be 'private citizens' without an official appointment. But a Govt Official/Appointee cannot sign a 'personal' NDA or the NDA has no 'force' if we do sign one. We (actually I'm retired, but when I was working) are bound by the 'Official Secrets Act' or an agency's 'Standards of Conduct' as far as what we are allowed to reveal, but we cannot sign a 'personal' NDA.

So, theoretically, once Scrotus is out of office an appointee is free to say what they like about his conduct or behaviour, but they still cannot reveal things that are 'capital-S' Secret. That's what is giving Bolton such license to say what he's saying. And why Scrotus is so determined to push through the 'policy' that every teeny thing a POTUS says is by definition 'Secret' simply because a POTUS is saying it. Absolute bollocks of course. 'Secret' is loosely defined as endangering national security or (in most agencies) revealing information that would allow someone to misuse the workings of that agency for their own purpose or to damage the country.

Never mind suffering it... Hmm

AcrossthePond55 · 18/06/2020 21:40

I heard he was livid at Gorsuch for the LGBTQ decision. Such a 'betrayal' of his 'first loyalty', which to Scrotus means to him.

I'm sure the WH walls were vibrating with his screams to fire Gorsuch. To bad he can't. I'm sure there was a tantrum to beat the band when he was told that 'lifetime' means just that and not 'unless he makes me mad'.

B1rdbra1n · 18/06/2020 21:49

I think that what will stop certain people....
thank you for explaining Acrossthe:)
Bolton surely knew that he would be attacked for using the info for profit rather than trying to protect his country against Trump, but he must have made some calculation that the benefit was worth the cost, or could there be some action taken against him now?
Maybe his book will ultimately damage Trump more than had he testified with the info instead.
All the others must have known that this would all come out and make them look bad?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/06/2020 22:14

How much good has any member of the administration been able to do if they failed to pander to Trump's every whim? Not to mention not being credited as anything but lackeys if they tried to speak out at the time? It is only after they leave that they are free to speak out at all.

No, I don't like Bolton and I am unsure about Comey, for instance; but we don't know how much or how little either of them may have done at any point to try to defuse the worst of Trump's trumpery behind the scenes.

Some heartening charts in The Economist - but November still feels a long way off.

As a new book alleges Donald Trump thought Finland was conrolled by Russia, Finnish authorities say to be fair they thought the same about him.

GrinGrinGrin I've just laughed a lot harder than I should have done at that, Lweji.

Latest from Trump. Interesting to note the 'manipulated media' tag:

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/06/2020 15:16

Why is antifa, meaning anti-fascist, pronounced anTEEfuh?

AcrossthePond55 · 19/06/2020 16:41

Good question! DH and I were just talking about that Asking.

We pronounce it ANTI-fa, as in (as you said) 'anti-facist' and that's how (AFAIK) it started out being pronounced. I'm don't know where the other wrong pronunciation started. Probably Scrotus himself since he seems to have a problem with pronunciation AND he enjoys putting his own 'spin' on pronunciations to piss people he doesn't like off.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/06/2020 16:49

We also wonder since when has being an 'anti-fascist' been a BAD thing? We (the Allies) fought a war to stop fascism (the Axis). I guess two wars if you count Kaiser Bill as being a something of a fascist, too. Gee, wasn't that a GOOD thing to do?

" Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, as well as strong regimentation of society and of the economy."

Sound familiar? Who is more fascist than Scrotus and the GOP?

Roussette · 19/06/2020 16:54

Trump pronouncing Antifa as he does.... does my head in. But not as much as how he says CHINa. Now that makes me want to scream very very loudly.
