Also, everyone knows the Portuguese had reached Brazil before the official discovery, and probably before Columbus, but kept it a secret.
That's how we divided the world with the Spanish and ended up with Brazil instead of a nice clean cut down the middle of the Atlantic. Wink
And why the Portuguese King wasn't interested in Columbus.

Unfortunately, we drove quite a lot of the slave trade, but as a country, aren't very keen on addressing the issue.

OFGS!! If McNinny were Pinocchio her nose would now reach 'from sea to shining sea'.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Greenwood Massacre and exactly why him having a rally in Tulsa on Juneteenth is so abhorrent:

The Founding Fathers kept slaves, didn't they?

Not all! some of them (Samuel Adams and John Adams for instance, and the redoubtable Thomas Paine) had campaigned against slavery all their lives.

General Mark Milley has apologised for his presence during Trump’s photo op in Lafayette Square. He hasn’t yet been fired or publicly denounced, but I can see it coming.

The New York Times @nytimes 9hr

Watch Gen. Mark Milley, the country’s top military official, apologize for his role in President Trump’s walk across Lafayette Square for a photo op after authorities used tear gas and rubber bullets to clear the area of peaceful protesters.

I haven’t checked in with Rudy for a while. It seems I haven’t missed much. Instead of the current state of fascism and anarchy, if the Democrats are elected, the US will slide into socialism and anarchy! (Or ‘submit’: that’s an important keyword there.)

Rudy W. Giuliani @RudyGiuliani

The Democrat Party seems to have declared political war on law enforcement. They have taken a knee in response to rioting and looting in our streets.

If we do not re-elect @realDonaldTrump in November, our entire country will be forced to submit to socialism and anarchy!

Trumpers wishing to attend the Tulsa rally next Friday must first agree not to sue Trump if they fall ill with COVID.

WTAF... he's lost it.

You've gotta laugh...

twitter.com/Acyn/status/1271187907684917248

This is at his roundtable for police reform...

"Trump: Sometimes you’ll see a building that costs less money than another building that costs more because the one that built the one that costs more, this one looks better. The one that’s cheaper looks better. They say how much more did you spend for that building"

It's the pandemy, stooped.

A little distraction (Melania Saga).

cozietoesie · 12/06/2020 16:28

Oh dear.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/06/2020 16:42

I think Trump is hoping his rallies will be attacked, which would feed into his "I'm the victim here" nonsense. Anyone who tries to make more than 116,000 deaths into a plot to make him look bad is capable of anything.

Are there any other towns with really notable attacks on black people that get commemorated? If so, chances are he will organise a rally there on the date of the atrocity.

Interesting ......... and she backs her husband politically !

TheNorthWestPawsage · 12/06/2020 17:58

Trump's history of racism itemised in the above Atlantic article - most of it I already knew about but OMG being reminded and seeing it set out again just made me hate him even more than I thought possible. What a disgusting excuse for a human he is.

IMHO, Melania backs Melania. I'd say she's pretty good at looking out for number 1. I don't think she gives a shiny shit about his politics. She negotiated a better 'deal' for herself and she's keeping her part of the bargain. It's all about the money.

You can't tell me she married Donnie for love of his pretty face and kind manner. No, she was nearing the end of her modeling career and had no other irons in the fire that would keep her in the style she was accustomed to. I'm not blaming her per se for making the marriage, she only did what countless 'beauties' with no job skills have done before her.

But I do blame her for selling her soul to the devil once he'd been elected. It's one thing to stay in a 'marriage' with a greedy, unscrupulous man. It's another to keep silent in that marriage once you realize that that man is bent on either becoming a dictator or, failing that, the destruction of a country. For that, she deserves to rot in hell.

Roussette · 12/06/2020 19:15

I blame her too for selling her soul. At one time I felt sorry for her in some way... she was not expecting to be FLOTUS but the 'i don't care do you' coat and all of that meant my sympathy evaporated totally. And of course she was part of the birther stuff.

And the parents and sister / chain migration which was managed for her family but not for anyone else - hypocrisy.

I hope she finds it worth it when she has to go back to life without the privilege she has now. Doubtful. I think there will be a divorce and she can cash in that way.

It's Barron I feel sorry for, not her.

That racism piece Lion ... there wasn't much I didn't know but to see it all like that is shocking.

lionheart · 12/06/2020 20:33

Yes, it all stacks up.

Melania was a 'Birther' ... I bet her new deal involves an NDA.
