Regardless of any other article, anywhere, about anything (which itself may or may not had similar retrospective treatment!), Cummings edited his dated blog post of more than a year ago, to make it appear that he had "warned of coronaviruses" on 4 March 2019.

He then tried to drive people to his blog to read it by claiming he'd written on the subject.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 13:32

Yeah, but (and I never thought I'd say this) fair play to Gove. He knew it was a non starter response and he couldn't actually answer without saying Cummings was an idiot or potentially admitting he'd possibly committed a crime and did laugh when the LBC broadcaster did and said about getting out of that one.

Grin

I'm thinking there must be a point where even his most staunch supporters realise they are just falling into the holes he had dug?

Alsohuman · 26/05/2020 13:33

I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility, and to discharge my duties as Prime Minister as I would wish to do, without the help and support of the man I love."

Wonderful. That really made me laugh.

YouTheCat · 26/05/2020 13:34

Yes, some leeway, for people with a diagnosis of autism.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 13:34

Yes clav rules around exercise from 9th April. Section 15. Drawn up after a court appeal. It didn't exist when he went to Durham and the specialist childcare was the reason people were saying he went to Durham. And the reason they said specialist childcare was due to his autism.

But I don't think that's true. Certainly the account of the role play doesn't match up with an autistic child.

LaurieMarlow · 26/05/2020 13:36

Is he even autistic?

Peregrina · 26/05/2020 13:37

So Cummings has played them for fools too? What on earth does he have on them that makes him so powerful?

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 13:40

What was it about Watergate?

Not the event...but the cover up?

Clavinova · 26/05/2020 13:43

The Barnard Castle trip was the 12th April that's why I mentioned it.

Peregrina · 26/05/2020 13:44

Watergate - yes it was the coverup which did the damage. I remember it rumbling on in the foreign press before it hit the British Press. I also remember people saying that it wasn't that they had spies - both sides had - it was that they were dumb enough to get caught.

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 13:45

Bit of a crap exercise trip.

50 mile round trip to test his eyes and see if he could drive.
15 minutes sitting on the river bank after a 10 metre walk.

Peregrina · 26/05/2020 13:46

How convenient for him - wifey's birthday on 12th - I must get that rule change in before then.

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 13:46

Who knows Laurie. But I think it's irrelevant. Well it could have been relevant because they could have driven under the rules for Barnard castle that day. It's muddies the waters. But this kid has done nothing wrong and has to grow up in the public eye so I think it's best he isn't labelled incorrectly or have his medical information made public.

But one thing I know for sure. They wouldn't lie he is if he isn't. At some point when he starts school and becomes an adult someone would notice!

I know clav and that's why I said it would have made that trip legitimate. But not the trip to Durham in case they needed childcare. But they didn't say it was within rules due to child's needs. They said the trip was to test his eye eight.

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 13:50

ollowing his press conference, some 59% of Britons think Dominic Cummings should resign from his role as Boris Johnson’s senior adviser following questions about his conduct during lockdown, a new poll suggests.

YouGov also said 27% of those surveyed believe Cummings should not resign while 14% answered “don’t know”.

The data showed 52% of those surveyed who voted Leave at the 2016 EU referendum want Mr Cummings to resign, with 38% answering “should not resign” and 10% “don’t know”.

YouGov said it surveyed 1,160 adults on Tuesday.

Clavinova · 26/05/2020 13:50

Perhaps he has - what does the rest of the blog say - have you read it? You have only been shown one small extract.

solieltoday · 26/05/2020 13:52

What do people think is going to happen next about this because it’s obvious their plan is to just hold tight now and wait for people to get bored of talking about it. They’ve thrown the “shops to open” news in to try and divert the media and get the public looking forwards. Unless the MPs start resigning or demanding for DC’s resignation, we’re stuck with him - unelected and making a mockery of us all.

Alsohuman · 26/05/2020 13:54

Oh @Clavinova, why do you keep on trying to defend the indefensible?

Clavinova · 26/05/2020 13:58

I certainly don't believe everything I read on twitter or in the press. What happened to the witness on the 19th April?

I am not overly bothered if he stays or goes. I am just loving the damage this is causing to Boris et al and their reputation.

As Napolean (?) said, don't attack your enemy when it's eating itself. Or something like that. It could have been in the Art of War - something that Cummings is very keen on.

And at the moment, they are eating themselves

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 14:01

You believe that

a) He drove to Durham
b) His wife and son went to the local hospital - whilst he was self isolating - so exposing the local hospital to the virus
c) He drove to Barnard Castle - a return trip of 50 miles - and sat on the bank for 15 minutes so he could test his eyesight and see if he was safe to drive.

PaneerOfEvil · 26/05/2020 14:02

Clavinova if you agree with his actions (which is ok even if I disagree) what do you think about No 10 not responding til the story was about to run? And DC taking 3 days to make a statement?

His son tested negative for coronavirus and a poster on another thread worked out that his wife was just over the 7 day period after symptoms.
