I said I thought he did! I thought his package which included instant sickpay and rise of WTC took into account those on low wage and zero hour contracts.

Since this started he can get fucked like the rest of them!

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 10:01

Clav having someone live with you isn't against lockdown? Did she move in with her or was she already living with her? They'll have to share a bathroom if they only have 1.

YouTheCat · 26/05/2020 10:04

Poor Dom should complain to his MP about this shocking treatment. Grin

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 10:06

Congrats to Douglas Ross for finding his conscience and acting on it

NoMoreReluctantCustodians · 26/05/2020 10:07

Well done Douglas Ross. Along with some other very pro Boris MPs speaking out, I wonder if a vote of no confidence in the government is a possibility? Still a very slight one to be fair

Peregrina · 26/05/2020 10:08

I recall that Clavinova said that he went probably went to Barnard Castle on the way back from Durham to avoid a Service station. I asked how good her geography was, because it's a long detour for a quick wee and to grab a sandwich.

The story from the Johnson camp on Saturday was Fake noos, alleged sighting, and then when it was clear the evidence was solid that he had been there, they had to think up an excuse, a better one than a nice jolly for his wife's birthday. Not that "SpecSavers was shut so I drove around to test my eyesight" is a better one!

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 10:10

I wonder if the SAGE people who have spoken out will also resign?

I can understand the temptation to stay on and still have an influence but they have been made to look like idiots and stooges (and in the case of Susan Michie had their contribution negated because they are 'a lefty')

Clavinova · 26/05/2020 10:10

I may have missed this - have you defended the 60 mile round trip to Barnard Castle to see if he could drive safely?

Splitting hairs - it's nearer 25 miles each way (I found the location of the farm). If it's true they only got out of the car for 15 minutes on the outskirts of Barnard Castle and they were 15/16 days from infection then it's a minor indiscretion. I wouldn't want to drive from Durham to London myself - I would very keen for my dh to drive so their story is not implausible. The press gave us misleading information about police contact with the family, the witness who saw DC and his wife in the bluebell wood (private land in any case) appears to have mixed up their dates, they haven't (yet) come up with any evidence that DC made return trips to Durham...

Violetparis · 26/05/2020 10:11

Boris said yesterday that he needs to wear glasses more because of Covid-19, 6 years ago in The Mail he said he was as blind as a bat. Gove has said on LBC that on occasion he has driven to check his eyesight. They are trying to take us for fools.

middleager · 26/05/2020 10:14

Congrats to Douglas Ross for finding his conscience and acting on it

Agreed. My MP hasn't even bothered to reply.

Ulver · 26/05/2020 10:15

“The press gave us misleading information about police contact with the family, the “

The Govt lied and contradicted the police statement prompting the police commissioner in Durham to call for an investigation.

RubyViolet · 26/05/2020 10:16

Douglas Ross 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 10:16

"SpecSavers was shut so I drove around to test my eyesight"

All those 'highly intelligent', highly educated people couldn't think of anything better than that! After all those hours of work on that pitiful story! These kind of pathetic 'alibis' are such a giveaway.

Ulver · 26/05/2020 10:16

Clavinova

Do you think your list of excuses and deflection would work for anyone else ignoring govt and police advice and committing driving offences?

Clavinova · 26/05/2020 10:16

I asked how good her geography was, because it's a long detour

Looking at the map it's not that long a detour - almost a straight road from the farm - 9/10 mile detour perhaps.

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 10:17

On the weekend we were told not to drive anywhere....

Next - putting local NHS resources at risk by using the local hospital. If they had stayed in London, then it would have been the local hospitals there - which were already dealing with a lot of Covid cases. His wife and son had been exposed to the virus and then they went to Durham hospital.

Not a good look all around, is it...

Peregrina · 26/05/2020 10:18

Private land can have public rights of way running across them you know Clavinova? What a wonderful way to demonstrate that Dom is just one of the ordinary people like us. Mind you, last time I checked, I didn't see a public right of way running down my garden path.

It's not splitting hairs to try to pass it off as a minor indiscretion when other people's relatives have died and people haven't been allowed to visit them, or children and young people have had their education damaged.

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 10:19

Looking at the map it's not that long a detour - almost a straight road from the farm - 9/10 mile detour perhaps

Except it wasn't a detour...

Because they drove to Barnard Castle and then drove back to the farm.

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 10:19

Clavinova's ridiculous contributions aren't helping Cummings one bit - but at least they're entertaining

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 10:22

Clav reminds me of the very posh caller I heard on 5 live earlier who said she was outraged about the press outside Cummings' house and that 'we all have to act on the rules as we see fit'.

No. We all had to act on the rules according to our sense of duty and in fear of the consequences - which, if we had behaved like Cummings - would have been severe.

Peregrina · 26/05/2020 10:25

Yeah sure - you're on the Motorway busting for a pee, so you don't pull in at the next Service station - you decided to drive 10 miles. Although I think he admitted to 30 and he wasn't driving back that day, he was 'testing his eyesight', so the feeble excuse you tried to make for him doesn't hold water.

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 10:26

Actually that's not true - he did go home.

However - it is still a very unusual way to go from Durham to London via Barnard Castle.

FliesandPies · 26/05/2020 10:28

Would CCTV from petrol stations/motorway services on that route still be available?

chomalungma · 26/05/2020 10:28

Yeah sure - you're on the Motorway busting for a pee, so you don't pull in at the next Service station - you decided to drive 10 mile

TBF - it's the A1 so there are plenty of opportunities to pull in and have a pee.

Before the nearly 4 hr drive back. When you have been ill for 2 weeks.

And weren't confident about driving only a few hours before

itsgettingweird · 26/05/2020 10:29

Clav yes exactly. Taking a drive for exercise was a minor indiscretion. Something others have been fined for and that people asked the police investigate and treat him the same if he had indeed broken the rules.

So what I don't understand is why all the cover up from the start, refusal to engage about this and an idiotic story about eye sight.

Why is it beyond him to say I went for a drive. I shouldn't have. It should have been local walks. I accept like the rest of you I'll have to pay a fine.
