Has amazon ever sent you hotel chocolat as an apology?

Just trying to solve a mystery!
It’s my birthday in a few days and I got a lovely box of hotel chocolat chocolates (the H box) with no note saying who from through the post, from amazon.. naturally I assumed someone had surprised me with a lovely thoughtful gift since we’re in lockdown, but I’ve asked a few people who I thought it might be and it’s none of them.. so I wondered if amazon send out chocolates by way of an apology?! I recently returned a faulty laptop and they took a month to give a £800 refund and the customer service chat was appalling - they kept saying they'd escalated it but then no refund.. so wondering if it was them trying to make amends 😆
On the dispatch note it does say ‘we hope you enjoy your gift, we hope to see you again at amazon.co.uk’ . Is this something they do?!
Hate that I don’t know who it’s from and can’t thank them!

I very much doubt it. It will be from a friend or family member - that message is when someone sends something as a gift.

MuddlingThrough1724 · 25/05/2020 15:15

Yeah, Amazon don't send apology gifts. They also won't tell you who sent a gift if there's no information in the parcel.

Xenia · 25/05/2020 15:18

I don't think. Also sending someone chocolates during covid 19 times is a bit like killing them! Surely the last thing we need is chocolates given how many people are over weight.

Sharpandshineyteeth · 25/05/2020 15:20

5 years ago I had a massive bunch of flowers from Barclays for a complaint I made. From interflora or something.

Sharpandshineyteeth · 25/05/2020 15:21

Sending chocolates is like killing someone!!! Get a fucking grip

PrincessSarene · 25/05/2020 15:21

My packing slips say that when I’ve received gifts from other people via Amazon. Not all orders let you include a personalised message, so the chances are it’s from someone you know but they didn’t/couldn’t include a note.

seekingwaxwings · 25/05/2020 15:23

Ooh a secret admirer OP!

Mnthrowaway20202 · 25/05/2020 15:23

Might have been ordered from amazon but amazon themselves certainly weren’t the gift giver. The company didn’t personally give you a gift.

IhateBoswell · 25/05/2020 15:24

Death by chocolate. I've heard it all now.

Ellmau · 25/05/2020 15:25

Was it definitely addressed to you?

SoupDragon · 25/05/2020 15:26

EveryoneLoves09876 · 25/05/2020 15:27

Amazon have been crap at including the gift message lately. Might be from hotel chocolat themselves!

knittingaddict · 25/05/2020 15:27

Sounds like a lovely way to go.

Wish someone would send me a box of Hotel Chocolat.

EveryoneLoves09876 · 25/05/2020 15:27

Ps I'm jealous

Sparklesocks · 25/05/2020 15:27

Any chance you have one of those amazon wish lists OP and someone bought them off there?

And no sending someone chocolates at the moment is not the same as killing them. Absolutely no need for such hysterics..

ScarfLadysBag · 25/05/2020 15:27

Any would-be murderers are welcome to send me some free chocolates.

dorapie · 25/05/2020 15:28

@PrincessSarene has it - I sent my cousin Hotel Chocolat through Amazon and was really miffed when I realised they don't have an option to add a personalised message.

You've just not found your mystery admirer yet! Wink

makingmyway10 · 25/05/2020 15:28

I had a big box of Hotel Chocolat chocs from BMW once as the air con in my brand new car broke 2 weeks after I got it during one of the hottest heat waves we haves had! They took a week to fix it but returned the car with the big box of chocolates ( luckily the air con was working or it would have been messy! Smile

Speak for yourself. Some of us are quite capable of eating chocolate and maintaining a healthy weight, even during a pandemic.

YouTheCat · 25/05/2020 15:30

We got some Hotel Chocolat goodies last week. We bought a mystery box for £25 which had well over £50 worth of chocolate in it. Happy days. Grin

Not all of us are overeating! DH and I have both lost weight and would love a mystery box of chocolates- or a bag of crisps. if anyone wants my address

I did get an unexpected parcel of easter eggs from Hotel Chocolat as an apology for missing an Easter gift delivery slot. The egg was delivered a few days late, we got three chocolate eggs to the house for free, and the invoice for the original order was cancelled. Also received a personal email from the owner. Very impressive customer service - I hadn't complained just enquired about the delivery.

Inandoutthedustybluebells · 25/05/2020 15:39

I have sent three people Hotel Chocolat gifts in the last month or so - all of the recipients said they arrived without a card and they had no idea who they had come from. These were ordered through the Hotel Chocolat website, but the personalised message never materialised at all.

starray · 25/05/2020 15:45

The message isn't obvious. I think it is hidden in the outer packaging....

RoiseCap · 25/05/2020 15:46

Like everyone else I definitely doubt it was Amazon! Has it not come with amazon order details?
