Has amazon ever sent you hotel chocolat as an apology?

Just trying to solve a mystery!
It’s my birthday in a few days and I got a lovely box of hotel chocolat chocolates (the H box) with no note saying who from through the post, from amazon.. naturally I assumed someone had surprised me with a lovely thoughtful gift since we’re in lockdown, but I’ve asked a few people who I thought it might be and it’s none of them.. so I wondered if amazon send out chocolates by way of an apology?! I recently returned a faulty laptop and they took a month to give a £800 refund and the customer service chat was appalling - they kept saying they'd escalated it but then no refund.. so wondering if it was them trying to make amends 😆
On the dispatch note it does say ‘we hope you enjoy your gift, we hope to see you again at amazon.co.uk’ . Is this something they do?!
Hate that I don’t know who it’s from and can’t thank them!

Yes, been sent a good few things by Amazon

Mummyshark2019 · 25/05/2020 15:49

If the message says we hope to see you again at Amazon.co.uk then it must be from them. You've probably been flagged as a high value customer and this is a surprise and delight from them.

iklboo · 25/05/2020 15:50

Sending chocolates is like killing someone!!!

Winner of The Hyperbole Award of the lockdown I think.

Namechange8186 · 25/05/2020 15:52

A bit like killing them

Fkin hell 😂😂😂

Mummadeeze · 25/05/2020 15:55

This happened to me about 10 years ago. It was a huge box of Hotel Chocolat chocolates. No note or card at all. I thought I had been sent them in error, but they said not, but I never found out who they were from. It was very weird.

IncrediblySadToo · 25/05/2020 15:55

@Xenia

FMD - you really do manage to squeeze it in in every thread.

sending someone chocolates during covid 19 times is a bit like killing them! Surely the last thing we need is chocolates given how many people are over weight

Your constant comments about weight are so tedious.

Shinygreenelephant · 25/05/2020 15:58

I once sent my auntie a care package from Amazon when she was ill. There was no option for a personalised message and I forgot to mention it to her. When I finally did she was mortified as she'd been really concerned, thought she had a stalker and her husband had wanted to contact the police!!

Namechange8186 · 25/05/2020 15:58

“Are you worried about catching coronavirus “

“ well A bit but not as much as rogue killer chocolates that just arrive through the post“

Do one Biscuit

I was sent a mystery box of Hotel Chocolat by amazon. Turns out it was birthday gift from my employer but it didn't say that in the box.

Lynda07 · 25/05/2020 16:18

No!
I've generally had pretty good, quick, efficient service from Amazon. No complaints. On the odd occasion when something has gone wrong they've refunded me. What more does anyone want?

Christmascookiesmmmm · 25/05/2020 16:23

Thanks for all the replies 😆 😆 I’ll ensure I don’t become morbidly obese and die from a box of 12 chocs 😆 for what it’s worth, I think hotel chocolat is a slightly less murderous chocolate brand as it’s so nice that you’re satisfied with less ;)
Mystery is solved- they were from my partner’s parents!! (And he was the one who suggested they may be from amazon 😆)
But yes , you lot encouraged me to continue my investigations and thank the people responsible 😆
I’m glad amazon didn’t get the credit..!

This thread was worth it for the death by chocolate comment 😄😄😄

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 25/05/2020 16:28

Amazon apologising. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Elouera · 25/05/2020 16:32

Glad you solved the mystery! We still haven't solved ours though.

I had a random box of lindt chocolates arrive from amazon. Addressed to me, but no note, no return address and no details. We don't have a suri/alexa thing (I'd heard of people accidently ordering things on those), it wasn't my birthday/anniversary and still have no clue who sent them?

They tasted nice though Grin

We aren’t in an Agatha Christie novel Xenia, no one’s getting bumped off with the ol’ strychnine in the coffee creams routine.

Oooh. That was a Tales Of The Unexpected plot.

AwwDontGo · 25/05/2020 17:03

Xenia
She is the gift that keeps on giving 😂😂😂😂

The amazing thing is is that I think she is deadly serious with her comments.

Xenia · 25/05/2020 17:12

There certainly is a connection between chocolate and plenty of people being obese and even the PM says he was 17.5 stone when he went into hospital and that probably made his covid 19 so bad (compared say to thinner Matt Hancock when he got it)

Bloodybridget · 25/05/2020 17:16

Am pondering how to make Amazon feel very guilty!

Namechange8186 · 25/05/2020 17:18

Yes but that doesn’t mean people can’t ever eat it . Am ten stone if I eat a box of chocolates tonight the whole box ( the horror ) I’m not going to wake up 17 stone am I 😂

Of course there is a connection between high calorie foods consumed en masse over time and weight gain like wow thanks for informing us all of this new information !!

stuckindoors77 · 25/05/2020 17:20

@Xenia*

Possibly one of the daftest comments I've read on Mumsnet..... and there's some strong competition around GrinGrin

Eckhart · 25/05/2020 17:22

HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!! LINK FOUND BETWEEN HIGH CALORIE FOODS AND OBESITY!!

What the hell has Boris Johnson's hospital admission weight got to do with it?

This is hilarious!

SoupDragon · 25/05/2020 17:22

Don't judge everyone by your own standards.

Most ridiculous comment of the week well done.

Mystery is solved- they were from my partner’s parents!!
But the mystery is only just beginning. Why do your partner's parents want to kill you? What have you done to deserve death by chocolate?

OwlinaTree · 25/05/2020 17:23

Lolling at giving someone a box of chocolates is killing them. I'm a teacher, I get like 20 boxes at the end of the year. My pupils must really hate me!!
