To join in doorstep protest tomorrow evening 8pm and urge others to do the same?

At 8pm tomorrow 26 May my family will take part in this protest.

Not that I think the consequences should end there....but I need to register my disgust somehow at the contempt Boris Johnson and the Government have shown for all of us.

I can't express how appalled I am by this, I know what my family has gone through and I have seen the hardships others have faced; and still kept to the rules for the sake of the public good. The Government's actions have shown how little respect and regard they have for us.

I do hope that others who feel similar outrage join in with this protest.

Its. I typed its. My iPad tends to think it should always be it’s.

Davros · 25/05/2020 14:14

Op, as you also have a disabled child I am surprised you’re not more empathetic, your logic on lockdown being pointless is beyond irrational,
I totally agree with this. Also, as his son is only 4, he and his wife won't be as good at dealing with problems or assessing situations as those of us who are hardened parents of disabled kids. Mine is nearly 24, I've had plenty of practice and experience. I won't be booing

1forAll74 · 25/05/2020 14:14

Is this for real? What will people have to do.? BOO for two minutes,or shout a few choice words out for two minutes. The madness of lock down !

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 25/05/2020 14:15

Even though the clapping is a bit pointless least on the street you're more then likely to have a NHS worker or keyworker who hears it.

Then however...Boris wont hear..Boris wont care! Not many will know what's going on or even know that this is a thing

Boo for Boris...clap for children and whatever else theres been floating around. What next.

Irnbroothenoo · 25/05/2020 14:15

Will the booing include all the Labour MPs who broke lockdown rules as well because obviously that would be hugely hypocritical if not.

NumbsMet · 25/05/2020 14:18

Protests are intense enough without having to listen to your entire street booing and hissing up to the heavens just to make a point. That sounds really depressing, I hope my street doesn't take part Confused

Carpathian2 · 25/05/2020 14:18

If you don't care what people think of you why post on here?

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 25/05/2020 14:19

Bloody hell, I really hope no one is doing this. What an embarrassment. No I don't clap on my doorstep either.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 25/05/2020 14:20

If anyone in my street does this, I won't be able to take them seriously ever again.

OhTheRoses · 25/05/2020 14:21

Might get on my doorstep on Tuesday and cheer for the end of lockdown.

Witchend · 25/05/2020 14:21

Let's make a week of doorstep activity.

Sunday: Cheer for Key workers
Monday: Boo for Boris
Tuesday: Rattle your bins for refuge collectors
Wednesday: Handstands for exercise
Thursday: Clap for carers
Friday: Moo for Farmers
Saturday: Sing for Social Distance (I suggest Baby Shark)

PseudoCream02 · 25/05/2020 14:21

Do you boo your clapping neighbours on a Thursday at 8pm, when they're out there clapping like seals for approval of the neighbourhood, after breaking lockdown rules themselves?

Never understood this weekly clap for carers, a one off on the first week was a nice nod to their efforts, weekly clapping is virtue signalling wanting your neighbours to like you more. How about instead of virtue signalling on a Thursday at 8pm, everyone donates £5 to NHS which will actually be of some benefit? No? I suppose not unless you can share it on Facebook for all to see. Shame.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 25/05/2020 14:22

@WorraLiberty - now that is what I like to see - committment!! And they arent happy with the bottles?!! Cant win lately can we

@strugglingwithdeciding I thank you, it hasnt been easy, but my stretchy pants nacho libre reference never goes amiss show I am giving it my all Wink

MarshaBradyo · 25/05/2020 14:22

Witchend sadly you require alliteration for it to work.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 25/05/2020 14:23

Why on earth would you want to create such a negative atmosphere on the street you live on? Aren't people struggling enough with loneliness, fear etc. without having to listen to that too?

MrBennsshop · 25/05/2020 14:24

If boos aren't effective then it has to be that claps aren't effective. We can't have it both ways.

Neither achieve anything. I don't want it both ways Confused

Thisismytimetoshine · 25/05/2020 14:25

What sort of lame brain imagines "claps are effective"? 😆

NameChangeNugget · 25/05/2020 14:26

What a waste of time

AriadnesFilament · 25/05/2020 14:27

Unless you live within booing distance of him or Boris then it IS pointless 🤷🏻‍♀️

Be angry if you want (in which case email your MP, start/sign a petition, submit a question to the daily briefing, email Downing St, along with a multitude of other things that will actually have some measure of impact), but booing on your doorstep is childish and ridiculous and all the other adjectives along those lines. It’s unfortunate if you don’t like being told that, but you did ask.

GarlicSoup · 25/05/2020 14:29

Ridiculous

SusieOwl4 · 25/05/2020 14:29

You do know he did not break the rules dont you? And you do know now his sons private details of why he did not break the rules are all over the internet. I think I you should be ashamed of yourselves. And the hypocrisy of all rage orwas hounding him while breaking social distancing rules. Its quite honestly disgusting.

Esspee · 25/05/2020 14:30

I emailed my MP yesterday. Think I might just email all the Conservative MPs later today. Not going to be grandstanding on my doorstep but I do not intend to let this matter drop.
Yesterday I wanted Cummings fired.
Today I want Boris to go too!

Timefor45 · 25/05/2020 14:30

Desperate and childish. On the plus side, it’s a very good reason to avoid Twatter, FecesBook or Instabrag over the next few days, as it’ll be full of self-righteous fools taking part in this.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 25/05/2020 14:32

Well as per, there's a bit of a pile on on the OP. That's pathetic.

OP... you've got your answer, people here won't do or, or maybe they will and will say they won't/didn't. Who knows? People lie.

If you think this will be a useful thing for you to do, to make you feel better then make your own decision to do it if that's what you want - but a call to arms is never going to be perceived well.

I don't clap, have never clapped. The bringing together of community I could just about 'get' but that's not a good enough reason as pp has said, "Look over there".

What we actually need to do is get together a proper game plan for the next election to get the right party in. I've asked the politically savvy on here before to put their brilliant brains to advising interested mumsnet posters on the way to vote to achieve x,y,z objective. That would be a really useful thing. Anything to thwart the MN twats who rage and finger-wag after the event.

For this though, if you don't care what people think then just do it. You need neither permission nor validation for that.

Bbq1 · 25/05/2020 14:35

Oh God, I would cringe so much if I saw anybody standing in my street tomorrow just booing...how infantile, pointless and embarrassing. After Clap for Carers I didn't think it could get any worse but clearly it can. If you're going to protest, do it through the right channels.
