UK civil service tweet - done on purpose?

CoRhona · 25/05/2020 00:43

The official account of the civil service tweeted this earlier, widely thought to be about Boris' defence of Dominic Cimmings:

"Arrogant and offensive
Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?"

I think some poor sod has tweeted from the 'work' account instead of their own.

DH thinks it was done on purpose.

YABU - it most definitely was done on purpose

YANBU - Ooops...

Of course it was done on purpose, and good on them.

MinorArcana · 25/05/2020 00:46

It’s the sort of tweet that could get you sacked.

Difficult to imagine someone doing it from the work account on purpose unless they were about to hand their notice in anyway.

Music101 · 25/05/2020 00:47

On purpose and seeing that is the happiest I have felt since the the lockdown began.

BusyProcrastinator · 25/05/2020 00:55

It’s a last day kind of Tweet.

But educational too, for everyone who thinks civil servants = government.

NOTANUM · 25/05/2020 00:57

I think it was a civil who didn't switch back to their personal twitter handle on the iPhone app.
Either way they're likely to see more consequences than Cummings.

Sparklesocks · 25/05/2020 00:58

I think it depends.
If the account is run/accessed by a range of staff who don’t have designated times of running it, so it’s hard to track who posted what? Maybe a sneaky defiant tweet on purpose.

But if it’s only run by one or two people, who have set ‘shifts’ and it would be easy to identify who posted what, it’s unlikely they’d risk their job with such a dangerous move and was more likely to be they have their work account linked with their personal and switched to the wrong one.

megletthesecond · 25/05/2020 00:59

On purpose.
Probably by someone who is heading off into glorious, well deserved retirement.

ilovesooty · 25/05/2020 01:03

JK Rowling has offered to pay their salary for a year. I'd like to think it was deliberately done by someone about to retire.

DioneTheDiabolist · 25/05/2020 01:06

Deffo on purpose.Grin

Nothappy599 · 25/05/2020 01:10

Definitely on purpose.
Supposidly now fired.
A hero.

Drag0nflye · 25/05/2020 01:15

Definitely tweeted on purpose and probably as an act of resignation.

Ratasha · 25/05/2020 01:17

On purpose, no doubt.

WelcomeToTheNorth · 25/05/2020 01:20

On purpose.

It stayed up till it was taken down. If it was an accident it would have been down by the poster within a couple of minutes.

I thought it was bloody brilliant.

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 25/05/2020 01:20

I loved it. That person is soooooo sacked, though Sad

HeddaGarbled · 25/05/2020 01:21

On purpose in a moment of anger and outrage, then immediately regretted. Been there, done that.

Ploughingthrough · 25/05/2020 01:21

On purpose. I reckon it was their last day!

Moominmammaatsea · 25/05/2020 01:23

The best resignation letter ever.

Ratasha · 25/05/2020 01:24

For those who didnt know, Boris and Cummings are working to demolish the civil service and privatise its functions (to the benefit of their mates).

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 25/05/2020 01:31

ilovesooty if that's true about JK, I love her more than ever. And I didn't even think that was possible

LetsBeSensible · 25/05/2020 01:55

On purpose. They then tweeted that as at one minute later they were looking for work.
It would not be surprising to me the person is young, low paid and may not even be on a permanent contract.
When people talk of civil servants, they really envisage Senior Civil Servants- decent salary, usually some gravitas about them, head of dept. There are plenty of ordinary people doing fairly ordinary work on quite crap pay in the CS.

DarkDarkNight · 25/05/2020 02:03

Of course it was done on purpose. It was brilliant.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 25/05/2020 02:03

Someone is either leaving it retiring........and it was a beautiful moment.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 25/05/2020 02:04

Or. Not it. 🙄

ButteryPuffin · 25/05/2020 02:05

Or the account was hacked or compromised in some way.
