to think Dominic Cummings has to go?

Dominic Cummings apparently travelled to his parents house while meant to be self isolating due to covid symptoms.

Given what happened with Neil Ferguson and Catherine Calderwood, AIBU to think his position ought to be untenable?

We are being run by hypocrites. Do as I say, not as I do.

Honestly sometimes I wonder about that.

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 23:03

Oh hang on

I think I see the get out clause

According to this, he lived in a separate household on their land

I would still say that’s a visit to a second home though

No mention of travelling 250 miles in his wife's account of having Covid. Why not if they didn't break the law? https://spectator.us/getting-coronavirus-bring-clarity/amp/?twitterr_impression=true

lyralalala · 22/05/2020 23:07

Cummings was actually sick with COVID-19 at the time he made his trip - and his elderly parents were there at his destination.

CMO was not ill - and visiting an empty house.

Cummings' behaviour was way worse.

This.

Ferguson was recovered from Covid and she got a taxi to his house.

Calderwood was an hour from home in an empty house.

Both bad enough, but Cummings travelled 4/5 hours away whilst ill, with a 3 year old and to the home of a couple in their 70s.

Bumfuzzled · 22/05/2020 23:08

In the event of a nuclear bomb going off, Demonic Scummings would be found scuttling around making the debris suffer. He’s like a human cockroach.

ChavvySexPond · 22/05/2020 23:09

The advice, which became law on March 26, stated: “You should not be visiting family members who do not live in your home. The only exception is if they need help, such as having shopping or medication dropped off.”

When was the running for the tube and the chat with the police in Durham?

chomalungma · 22/05/2020 23:10

The guidance never did really say what to do if both of you are ill and you have children.

I don't think it would have meant go on a 250 mile journey to Durham. I wonder where they stopped on the way up?

maresydoats · 22/05/2020 23:10

Doesn't really matter, anyone can see, nothing really matters to me.(Johnson) lol.

Just joking, but that man Cummings will never leave. Precisely because Johnson hasn't a clue how to govern without him.

And we thought Theresa May was bad!

pontypridd · 22/05/2020 23:12

I'm so bored of this shit government and their shit approach to managing this coronavirus crisis that I nearly missed the significance of this story.

It just seemed another boring piece of shit that I wanted to ignore and let it pass me by.

BUT - the light bulb has just gone on (sorry for being so slow) - maybe this will mean that Cummings will leave us and we'll never have to hear about him - or from him - ever again.

God I hope so. I really really do hope so and that I'm not being too hopeful.

Maybe this is actually an important piece of news after all ...

Thedogscollar · 22/05/2020 23:13

This twat could fall in shit and still come up smelling of roses. The message at the time of his travels was "Stay At Home" and to think he was probably involved in that policy. You couldn't bloody well make it up. If Boris doesn't get rid he is out by Christmas I'd say.

VeryQuaintIrene · 22/05/2020 23:14

There was a woman who wanted to marry Dominic Cummings? That's the most depressing thing I've heard for some time.

maresydoats · 22/05/2020 23:16

Boris could not govern without him, watch this space.

Where did Cummings come from, who is he anyway.

PotholeParadise · 22/05/2020 23:19

ChavvySexPond

Running out of Downing Street, pursued by the laughter of journalists, was March 27th.

When asked if Cummings had been warned about breaching the lockdown, a spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “On Tuesday, March 31, our officers were made aware of reports that an individual had travelled from London to Durham and was present at an address in the city.

JacobReesMogadishu · 22/05/2020 23:20

He will come up with a bullshit excuse about how he was supporting his vunerable parents so it was essential.

TheFairyCaravan · 22/05/2020 23:20

Oh hang on

I think I see the get out clause

Are you being deliberately stupid? He had the virus when he travelled, as did his wife. They went before they allegedly needed help with childcare. There is no get out clause because they shouldn't have left their house.

They drove 250 miles with a small child. They must've stopped to use the toilet somewhere so they could have potentially infected others.

I'm pig sick of seeing/hearing people trying to find loopholes to all this. It's a temporary situation. He needs sacking.

ChristmasCarcass · 22/05/2020 23:21

I think I see the get out clause. According to this, he lived in a separate household on their land

I thought he only went up there because he needed childcare. So his parents provided childcare from a separate household did they? Never approached any further than 2m? So how come half of Durham reported him to the police for being out and about?

ChristmasCarcass · 22/05/2020 23:24

Sorry LilacTree1 that sounded arsey - I am cross Cummings thinks that pack of lies is any kind of justification, wasn’t aimed at you!

JacobReesMogadishu · 22/05/2020 23:25

You’d have thought he would have been worried about infecting the 3yo....all those hours in a car would increase the risk more than being in a house?

JacobReesMogadishu · 22/05/2020 23:26

And if you’re well enough to drive 250 miles you’re well enough to look after a kid!

Haffiana · 22/05/2020 23:27

Cummings function for the Tory cabinet is to be the one that the public blame and hate. The scapegoat.

This is his job. He is there to deflect public opinion away from Boris. Even perfectly intelligent people somehow believe that he single-handedly guides Government policy and that he rather than parliament, makes legislation.

This is why he is worth his weight in gold.

Tippexy · 22/05/2020 23:28

@Rosehip10 it later came out that Robert Jenrick has in fact followed the rules, that why he didn’t need to resign

lyralalala · 22/05/2020 23:32

it later came out that Robert Jenrick has in fact followed the rules, that why he didn’t need to resign

More like they twisted facts to make them fit the rules.

The fuss over his visit to his parents meant the fact he was going between his London home and his weekend home, which he shouldn't have been doing, was completely glossed over.

For whatever reason the fact his parents had had regular help with shopping and prescriptions from people locally was ignored when he claimed he was on an essential prescription run.

The80sweregreat · 22/05/2020 23:33

People leave been flouting the rules since lockdown. What Cummings did is unbelievable but I'm not surprised.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 22/05/2020 23:34

He has to go.., I am a life long supporter of the conservative party but this and the attemted over up that will ffollow for teflon cummings is just scandalous. It has been a shit few weeks for this party,so much has gone wrong and its failings are becoming more and more apparent,Some I can see why..some I cannot get my head around, We had the Proffessor from sage off during lockdown to get his rocks off with his bit on the side then Cummings. What the fuck is wrong with these people? Their power should not save them.Respect and decency for the british people who have fought so hard to do the right thing to help everyone should not be tossed aside now.The Government is in trouble right now and it needs fixing NOW..if they shirk this matter then the slap in the face we will all feel will never be forgotten and their time in power should be short lived and believe me I never imagined i would ever think this way but i do...This matter alone is enough to cause a surge of protest and an uprising if it gets brushed away.It cannot be tolerated Boris it just cannot.

FliesandPies · 22/05/2020 23:35

Cummings function for the Tory cabinet is to be the one that the public blame and hate. The scapegoat

I think you'll find that's Hancock's job. Cummings is still under the radar for most people and while Johnson is there he is secure.
