to think Dominic Cummings has to go?

Dominic Cummings apparently travelled to his parents house while meant to be self isolating due to covid symptoms.

Given what happened with Neil Ferguson and Catherine Calderwood, AIBU to think his position ought to be untenable?

Well, calling for him to go one way or the other.

MinesAPintOfTea · 23/05/2020 21:43

@detachablehoof this had come up multiple times. If he was too ill to put ceebeebies on and give the child cereal for a few days, he was way too ill to safely drive 300 miles.

I've done the former with flu and norovirus (septate occasions) - I couldn't get to the corner shop for more milk but could manage ceebeebies and freezer food.

1forsorrow · 23/05/2020 21:44

Over the 10k now.

detachablehoof · 23/05/2020 21:46

@MinesAPintOfTea I thought the story was that his wife had it and then he started developing symptoms? Ie he drove up there when he wasn't really ill but realised he was going down with it

lljkk · 23/05/2020 21:48

Independent has a timeline for anyone struggling to keep up; No.10 press office now pushing back against "false allegations."

They are actually digging their heels in. WELL. That just ups the entertainment value, doesn't it?

Hobnobswantshernameback · 23/05/2020 21:49

If this wasn't all so utterly tragic it would be amusing

MaxNormal · 23/05/2020 21:50

detachablehoof he could have not danced to ABBA at his mums 71st birthday or had a nice day out at Barnard Castle? Just off the top of my head.

MarieQueenofScots · 23/05/2020 21:52

he could have not danced to ABBA at his mums 71st birthday or had a nice day out at Barnard Castle?

So to answer their immortal question “yes, his mother did know he was out” Wink

SharonasCorona · 23/05/2020 21:53

Grant Shapps line now still saying that DC didn’t move around in Durham even though eye witnesses saw him 30 miles away. 😂

MaxNormal · 23/05/2020 21:54

Dig dig dig!

Wrongdissection · 23/05/2020 21:54

@detachablehoof it’s not a toddler the child is 4. More than capable of being fed cereal and watching peppa pig for a few days if their parents are out of action. Which if you believe their articles - which let’s be clear aren’t worth the paper they’re written on but let’s assume we can take them at face value aside from the whole not mentioning they’d driven half a day to lockdown somewhere other than their own house - is what they did anyway. So what on earth was the point. Other than a giant fuck you to the British public. I am so so so angry about all of this. How are we in a situation where this is fucking acceptable???

SharonasCorona · 23/05/2020 21:57

it’s not a toddler the child is 4

A child who ‘in his doctor’s uniform, administered Ribena with the grim insistence of a Broadmoor nurse’ according to his mum. Hmm

sweetheartyparty · 23/05/2020 21:59

He will be sacked before the weekend is out but not before he wrecks the credibility of the government. I'm looking forward to ministers trying to weasel out of this tomorrow morning

SophieB100 · 23/05/2020 22:01

@Wrongdissection, agree with you, I'm angry too, and it's totally unacceptable.
It's the sense of entitlement that gets to me. These are a wealthy couple, probably with staff, or if not, easily able to access it via Downing Street. They're not a couple struggling without any support at all nearby, who had no option but to drive to family. It's patronising and insulting to our intelligence to try and tell us otherwise. And it's a kick in the teeth to those who genuinely have had to struggle.

SophieB your post above is why we need a like button

Detachable Hoof

I haven't RTFT but honestly what do people think he was supposed to have done?! Him and his wife both ill and needing childcare for a toddler. I know I would have done the same in his circumstances. I think the debate around this is totally politicised.

You people trying to defend him make me nauseous. How the hell did they drive if they were that ill? Gov rules were VERY clear. STAY HOME. Especially not take the virus to another community.

Im sick every day of my life. Its crap but you manage, you have to.

The bollocks the mp's are all spouting backing him is infuriating and makes a mockery of their whole message.

detachablehoof · 23/05/2020 22:10

@Wrongdissection @welshpolarbear as far as I understand his wife was ill with covid and he started going down with symptoms, so drove up to get childcare for his kid before they were both properly ill

According to his wife he was bedridden for 10 days. So sounds like he was ill once he got there!

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 22:13

If you are angry about this
EMAIL YOUR MP
THey work for us
tell them how you feel
remind them that you have their ear between elections
DEMAND your rights

lyralalala · 23/05/2020 22:13

@detachablehoof According to his wife he was bedridden for 10 days. So sounds like he was ill once he got there!

According to his wife's article they also isolated in London, which was a lie

Also she got ill on March 27th. He got ill the very next day and was bedridden for 10 days, but was seen in the garden (with the Abba music) of his parents home on April 5th. Maths isn't my strongest point, but that's not 10 days by my reckoning.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 22:15

detatched
Have you heard of driving without due care and attention
ie setting off on an un needed journey when ill
sod covid
what they did was STUPID

Pedallleur · 23/05/2020 22:15

Didn't his wife write in The Spectator they were in London? The press are drip feeding the story beautifully with denials from Ministers, suggestions the police are lying and witnesses being found for various outings. The Kingmaker may be required to fall on his sword.

Egghead68 · 23/05/2020 22:17

She heavily implied this yes @Pedallleur.

Egghead68 · 23/05/2020 22:21

I haven't RTFT but honestly what do people think he was supposed to have done?! Him and his wife both ill and needing childcare for a toddler. I know I would have done the same in his circumstances.

@detachablehoof his wife’s sister lives in London and his closest aide lives two streets away. I dare say one of them could have helped with emergency childcare or shopping if necessary.

SharonasCorona · 23/05/2020 22:23

How can No.10 get away with this? What has happened to this country?

to think Dominic Cummings has to go?
