to think Dominic Cummings has to go?

RoosterPie · 22/05/2020 20:39

Dominic Cummings apparently travelled to his parents house while meant to be self isolating due to covid symptoms.

Given what happened with Neil Ferguson and Catherine Calderwood, AIBU to think his position ought to be untenable?

How sickening for all the people who haven't been able to go to funerals of loved ones, hold their dying hands and see their grandchildren. I'm still coming to terms with the damning calculations that had Dominic Cummings allowed lockdown to happen a week earlier, there would have been a quarter of the deaths. A quarter! There's blood on their hands. Now this? It was his mother's birthday whilst he was on his jolly!! They have a nanny and his brother in law lives in London. They did this because they don't care about the rules they wrote for 'others'. His wife wrote an article about their 'lockdown in London'. He has to go and that rotten lying cabinet need to go too. There should be a vote of no confidence and an interim, competent government brought in. Enough.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/23/the-observer-view-this-breach-of-the-lockdown-guidelines-is-a-disgrace

I know The Observer is the "Guardian on Sunday" but this article makes the connection between the timing of Cumming's trip, which coincided with the tragic death of the little lad who died alone and no family could attend his funeral, because some were displaying symptoms. The little lad who had Hancock close to tears at the briefing.

There's no way that Cummings can keep his job - poster's who say that government will lose all credibility if they defend him, are absolutely right.

And I bet that the transport minister is fuming, if Boris and Cummings knew this second story was about to break, they've set him up as a laughing stock.

The more I think about this, the more angry it makes me.

Notmyfirstusername · 23/05/2020 21:11

I'm placing bets on 'my wife and child stayed in Durham and so I was just commuting to and from work as allowed' as his excuse for being seen in London and Durham after April.

Not to mention the NHS and care staff who've isolated away from their families to do their jobs.

We've had SIL's kids here since schools closed. As a single parent who works in ICU she had three choices - ask us or her elderly Mum to mind the kids while she worked, endangering us all, send the kids to come and stay with us, or quit/take a sabbatical. She felt the right thing to do was work and send the kids to "holiday" with us.

JacobReesMogadishu · 23/05/2020 21:14

Yes, all those people who couldnt hold the hand of dying loved ones because of the risk. And he’s trotting around while having coronavirus without a care in the world.

EdWest · 23/05/2020 21:15

Oh, wait. Dom wrote an article for the Spectator, too, about being isolated with Mary. She's commissioning editor of the Spectator so that makes sense. Wonder if he gave her mates' rates?

So this pair of privileged twats break the law without compunction, twice. Then they each write a totally disingenuous article about it. But it's all fine because he did 'the right thing.'

midnightstar66 · 23/05/2020 21:17

The people defending him have gone quiet since the latest revelation

PerkingFaintly · 23/05/2020 21:18

I'm oscillating between enjoying the comedy of Tory toadies getting caught by the one-two; and being so upset I can barely speak, because of what ordinary people have been going through to make this lockdown effective.

I'm mostly sticking with the comedy, because the other is so heartbreaking.

DEAR EVERYBODY

Write to your MP through their Parliament email
OK, Julian Lewis does not count
Get your mates to email
get your family to email their MPs

NOTHING wrecks an MPs ego as much as realising that their electorate are mobilising against them
even in this stage of the cycle

email
email
email again
NO MATTER who your MP is
they are only invincible if you let them think they are
cc your messages to your social media feeds if you get no response

So all those who got raided at 6am for staying in tents and motor home in Cornwall last week now have the perfect defence for doing it again. They have symptoms, their family live down the road and they are there isolating nearby for safeguarding reasons.

I never watch the politics shows.

I am settling tomorrow. What time is it on and what channel?
I've even suggested to ds I cook breakfast so I can settle in in style.

Egghead68 · 23/05/2020 21:31

Even after all this I doubt he will go. I’m sure he has far too much dirt in everyone else.

Belindabelle · 23/05/2020 21:33

I have always had a soft spot for Barnard Castle.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 21:33

0900 Marr

It's going to be an interesting morning

SophieB100 · 23/05/2020 21:34

@itsgettingweird
Andrew Marr at 9.00 a.m. Politics Show at 10.15. Both BBC1.
Enjoy.

chomalungma · 23/05/2020 21:34

I do know that if he was in Durham - then Barnard Castle is not really on the way back to London from there. Not unless you are doing a massive detour

detachablehoof · 23/05/2020 21:37

I haven't RTFT but honestly what do people think he was supposed to have done?! Him and his wife both ill and needing childcare for a toddler. I know I would have done the same in his circumstances. I think the debate around this is totally politicised.

lljkk · 23/05/2020 21:37

Pippa Crerar is getting lots of marriage proposals.

it's kind of refreshing after some of the abuse prominent women can get on Twitter.

Petition is nearly 10k. Well one is the other is about half that.

youaskmeiaskwho · 23/05/2020 21:39

He absolutely should go but I doubt he will. The PM and Health Secretary are defending him.

Robert Jenrick should have gone too.

It is appalling the way the powerful and rich can get away with nearly anything but others were struggling at home, unable to see seriously ill relatives or even attend their funerals. One rule for them and another for everyone else. Bunch of hypocrites.

SophieB100 · 23/05/2020 21:39

Meanwhile in the real world, this is what nurses have been doing, whilst Cummings has been coming and going on his jaunts and admiring bluebells.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-52772306

I wonder how she feels about today's news?? Hey, Mr Goings?

merrymouse · 23/05/2020 21:40

I haven't RTFT

But you might be a bit more enlightened about what he has done wrong if you read the post above yours.

Oh yes, the frothers on the daily mail comments page already have all this a 'labour momentum conspiracy ' and citing Keir Starmer for having donkey sanctuaries and sending his kids to school during lockdown as a very good reason for Cummings breaking his own rules. It's all linked isn't it? .. err no.
Tbf, the most liked comments on the Mail are calling for his resignation too.

ListeningQuietly · 23/05/2020 21:42
