To ask why I’m not loosing weight with all the excercise I’m doing?!

Endorphins · 22/05/2020 10:08

So I excercise 6 days per week and eat healthy 5 days per week!

I do 3 days of weight and strength training
2 days of running, generally about 7k each time
1 day of yoga for 60 minutes

I track via MFP and generally have about between 1300 and 1500 cals per day

On the weekend I relax the cal counting but don’t binge

I am still breast feeding my 2 year old and she feeds multiple times per day and throughout the night

I weigh 9 and a half stone

You'll be gaining muscle from exercise

This can count quite a bit, I have been doing body weight exercises for a while. My weight has stayed the same but to many and myself I look slimmer.
9stoneish can still be 'lumpy' for some.
I'm 5ft3 small build. I would be healthy at that weight but it would be uncomfortable an me, all round my belly and I wouldn't find clothes to fit well as I'm flat chested and put no weight at all on there, just just round my belly. It just looks odd too.
If I carried it proportionately I would happily be 9 stone.

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 10:54

Waits for the drip feed that OP is 4ft 10in.

I was thinking the same thing, or currently furloughed from the circus.

foodandwine89 · 22/05/2020 10:55

So you're only doing cardio 2x week. That's not nearly enough. It's recommended you do a minimum of 5×30 mims cardio per week to lose weight alongside a diet as well. Unfortunately for all of us yoga and strength training won't help you lose fat very much at all.

I'm also trying to lose weight and it's so hard, fingers crossed for you OP!

Endorphins · 22/05/2020 10:56

I’m 5ft6.

I have been doing weight train for a year, but added in the running since lockdown.

I think I need to stop eating my exercise cals, and see if that helps.

I only want to loose a few pounds and tighten my stomach.

I have a lot of excess skin from having 4 pregnancies and no amount of excercise will Shift that as I need a tummy tuck!

You don't really need to lose any weight and you're probably eating the right amount of calories to sustain your current weight.

Sometimes with mfp we underestimate calories, if you're really determined to lose some weight you might need to start weighing your food or tweak your diet a bit.

If you're having treats at the weekend they might be adding up to more calories and cancelling out the healthy eating and exercise.

PhoneLock · 22/05/2020 11:01

I'm five six and over a stone lighter.Apart from the yoga, I do similar exercises to you but every day. My weight is static.

Bienentrinkwasser · 22/05/2020 11:02

The sounds like a recipe for feeling miserable to me.

welldonesquirrels · 22/05/2020 11:02

Eating your exercise calories might be the issue.

Are you using fitbit by any chance to calculate calories burned? I was using fitbit synched to mfp and found it massively unrealistically overestimated how many cals I was burning (until I tweaked the heart rate settings).

MrsRogerLima · 22/05/2020 11:03

@Riddlediddle

Does a kg of feathers weigh the same as a kg of rocks?

Fucking 'muscle weighs more than fat' give your head a wobble.

vanillandhoney · 22/05/2020 11:08

You need to increase your cardio exercise - two runs a week really won't be having much impact on your weight unfortunately. Can you increase your running to four days per week and then have a good walk on the other days - fast enough so you're raising your heart rate.

What are you eating? You've said the number of calories but not what they're actually made up of.

oldpaint · 22/05/2020 11:09

sounds like you're not eating enough, imo. I'd add another 200 cals to your diet to take into consideration your breastfeeding, and start thinking about 'macros'. You may need to increase your protein intake

vanillandhoney · 22/05/2020 11:10

Does a kg of feathers weigh the same as a kg of rocks?

Fucking 'muscle weighs more than fat' give your head a wobble.

What PP mean by that is muscle takes up less space in your body, so a kg of muscle will take up less space than a kg of fat. So while your weight might not be going down, your body shape will change.

Riddlediddle · 22/05/2020 11:13

@MrsRogerLima wow what a lovely human you are. Your manners are impeccable.

Do some research on density of fat vs muscle and then maybe we can have an adult conversation over this Smile

GoldenBlue · 22/05/2020 11:15

On MFP don't eat the extra calories allocated for exercise.

I need to keep below 1200 to lose weight and I exercise 30+ mins per day (cardio)

You need to reduce calories by 3700 to lose a pound.

Work out your balance calorie level where you stay the same weight. Min is around 1600 per day. So it would take me 9 days to lose a pound just by calorie cutting, I'm hoping the exercise brings it to a week.

But with MFP you need to be really honest with yourself and scan or weigh everything.

Isawamagpie · 22/05/2020 11:16

Its muscle
And please let me say for your height that's a wonderful weight! I'm 5ft 3 and used to be that weight - now a stone heavier and my god, you can tell!
Keep doing as you are, im sure you're looking great!

Settle59 · 22/05/2020 11:17

GoldenBlue - totally agree with the 1200 cals thing and 30 cardio a day. Walking unfortunately doesn't seem to raise my metabolism enough to lose weight at 1200 so I need to run or gym

BertiesLanding · 22/05/2020 11:19

@MrsRogerLima - Why the anger? The poster is correct. Muscle is more compact and heavier than fat.

Rebelwithallthecause · 22/05/2020 11:19

I’m shorter than you and at 9.5 stone looked too skinny

I am about right at 10

But I don’t weigh myself to keep track I take waist measurements.
And at 10 stone I’m 28 inches. At just under 11 stone I was just under 30 inches

Elvesdontdomagic · 22/05/2020 11:31

I'm the same height and looked ill at 9 st 10lb, I had an eating disorder when I weighed that. I'm trying not to judge as don't know your body shape but it sounds like you have an unhealthy relationship with weight.

NHS guidelines put you in a healthy weight category. Your weight is at the lower end of that spectrum. You could be up to 11 st 3lb before you become overweight. Why change?

acatcalledjohn · 22/05/2020 11:32

Muscle weighs more than fat

No, there is a significant difference in density, which is different. Saying that muscle weighs more than fat is factually incorrect.

Muscle is more dense than fat so it takes up less space in the body.

Saying that muscle weighs more than fat means that a kg isn't necessarily a kg.

OP: You are a perfectly healthy weight. Why the drive to lose weight?

Namechange2020onceagain · 22/05/2020 11:36

A 1cm square cube of muscle will weigh more than a 1cm square cube of fat.

I do love it when someone shows their ignorance whilst taking the piss out of others.

puppypuppypuppypuppy · 22/05/2020 11:40

Your bmi is 21 - why are you trying to lose weight?
Losing weight won't make your stomach look better with loose skin (it could make it look worse)

Afint · 22/05/2020 11:42

Surely you do not need to be dieting at 5’6” and 9.5 stone? It sounds like you’re not eating enough. Why make yourself miserable with all the restriction when you could just relax and eat intuitively? You won’t pile weight on unless you’re stuffing down loads of doughnuts every day.

CambsAlways · 22/05/2020 11:44

9 half stone is very light but how tall are you

acatcalledjohn · 22/05/2020 11:45

A 1cm square cube of muscle will weigh more than a 1cm square cube of fat.

You've just described density, not weight.
