I find this concept so far from my reality that I always contribute something sarcastic on the threads... but it made me think, AM I in the minority? Is this an actual thing ? Personally I would NEVER not answer the door... is this because I live in a quiet village in the Highlands.. or because I have scant regard for the worst of human kind...and will come a cropper.

YANBU = I always answer the door , why would I not

YABU = It could be someone wishing to do you harm and not worth the risk, be it a parent , parent-in-law, psychotic axe murderer...

Age would be helpful to understand this mindset (but not essential obvs)

I'd always answer the door. I've got no issue with telling someone we're not interested if necessary and I can't imagine turning away someone we know. We are fairly remote and anyone at the door is probably delivering something for us or, frequently, next door, but ours is the first one you come to.

When I lived in an apartment I never answered the buzzer unless I was expecting someone.
Anyone I want to see has my number.
I have a large glass door now so I can't hide. Grin

I look through the spy hole and don't answer if they're selling something.

I don't answer the door if I'm not expecting someone. Purely out of fear. I live alone with DC. Not the best area. I watched a video on fb not along ago where a guy opened his door at night to a delivery. 3 guys burst into his house & shot him & his son. It was all captured on the ring doorbell. You could hear the terrified screams & then the guy staggering out covered in blood. It has scarred me for life, it was horrific. Somewhere in England.
