Bin collectors shouting c*nt and sh*t at 6:30am

We're on a street of terrace houses of mainly young families and over 65s. Our bin collection happens 6-7am on a Wednesday morning. The bin collectors do a good job and I have no problems with them talking loudly cos bin collection is never quiet anyway! But recently there's a new man, and he swears and swears at the top of his voice. This morning, he wife is a cnt apparently, and some other things are sht. It also sounded like he had a full on argument with one of the other collectors.

Aibu to ask them to stop yelling, or to mention it to the council?

I feel bad reporting someone doing a tough job, especially during the lockdown, but at the same time I feel it's really not ok to be speaking the way he does, yelling and shouting down the street. What would you do? Please help!

Think about how it's affecting you, really.

Surely you're not that delicate that you can't just ignore it?

LivingThatLockdownLife · 19/05/2020 06:56

Defo complain.

It's not 1950

Carrotcakefiend · 19/05/2020 06:57

I wish I could, but you can hear it loud enough that with the windows shut you can't hold your own conversation while it's happening. It's not so much the noise but the fact that ds and everyone else can hear a stream of swearing over the sound of a lorry.

I’m no wilting flower and indeed I use those words myself, but I’d still raise it with the council. Maybe not a formal complaint, I’d ring the relevant department and ask someone to have a quiet word.

EdwinaMay · 19/05/2020 06:58

The fact he is shouting it sounds like attention seeking to me. In fact no one should be shouting at 6.30am full stop. He's an arsehole.

I imagine the council would want to sort this out asap. It's not good for their image. Where I am my council would take this seriously.

Kittykat93 · 19/05/2020 07:05

Playdonut - what a silly comment. So can we all just behave how we want then at work?? He shouldn't be shouting and swearing in the street at 6 30am,whether he's a bin man or not.

Carrotcakefiend · 19/05/2020 07:06

I don't understand your comment. They aren't volunteers and I'm not complaining they come. I'm asking whether you'd speak to someone about a lot of high volume swearing from them. Would you treat yourself at home if the GP repeatedly swore during an appointment?

They're not volunteering though, Playdonut Confused That's just a stupid statement.

Swearing can be intimidating to some people.

hen10 · 19/05/2020 07:09

I"d be ready one morning and just go and say that really recently when they've come there's been loads of swearing and shouting. I'd be specific and give an example of what you've heard and say that your children are hearing and could the swearing be toned down please. They'll know who's responsible and the boss will have a word hopefully. No need to go to the council before you've spoken to them, I don't think.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/05/2020 07:10

Why are they collecting on a Tuesday if your bin day is Wednesday? (misses the point of the thread)

HugeAckmansWife · 19/05/2020 07:11

It's not OK to be shouting at that time. I don't know why bins are always so early. Our glass collection will come by in a minute, huge crashes every half minute or so. The lorries cause congestion during rush hour. Is there a reason they can't start after 9? And Playdonut your comment is silly. She's not complaining about volunteers. These people are doing a job and should do it professionally.

Carrotcakefiend · 19/05/2020 07:12

Tuesday. They collect on a Tuesday. In a morning daze and I wrote Wednesday Confused today is Tuesday... Right?! Brew

Porridgeoat · 19/05/2020 07:13

See if it happens a second time. If it does tell the council how amazing the bin men have been to date and that today wasn’t the same (twice). However you understand home life can be difficult and work life stressful for some particularly with covid19 pressure.

FairyDogMother11 · 19/05/2020 07:15

@CeeceeBloomingdale I don't know about OP but my road has two different postcodes, one either side, and the other side to us has their collection on Tuesday and ours is Wednesday so we see and hear them on a Tuesday too.

Northernsoullover · 19/05/2020 07:15

I swear terribly too. If I did it at work I'd get sacked and quite rightly.

EggysMom · 19/05/2020 07:16

Round here it's normally the house owners shouting fck and sht as they hurriedly put their bins out whilst dressed in either pyjamas or whatever coat they happen to have by the door ...

FairyDogMother11 · 19/05/2020 07:16

Oh cross post with OP, that's not the case here Grin but it could have been Blush

midnightstar66 · 19/05/2020 07:17

Do you live near me OP? Mine are the same but they waited till 7 this morning to turn up and shout. I was already semi awake and dc didn't wake up so I can't say it bothered me massively

BananaSpanner · 19/05/2020 07:17

If it was a regular occurrence I would complain. A one off, I wouldn’t bother.

PowerStruggle · 19/05/2020 07:18

Think you’ve posted this a day early 😁

Iwanttostayhappy · 19/05/2020 07:19

You need to report as he is representing the council and the behaviour is unacceptable. Also why are they collecting bins so early, our bin collectors are not allowed to leave the yard till 7am.

PhilipJennings · 19/05/2020 07:20

I'd contact the council. It's not going to get him fired, it's going to get him a chat with his supervisor about remembering that he is a representative of the council and should behave accordingly, particularly at unsocial hours when people's small children are at home.

Tbh if he's having a "full on row" with his coworkers, they'd probably be glad that customers and supervisors are onto him, as this means his behaviour is being monitored and they have support if they need to come with their own gripes.

Henrysmycat · 19/05/2020 07:20

I’d complain. He might be a bully and his colleagues don’t enjoy it or have complained and nothing was done. Cause I’d hate to be working with anyone 8 hours a day screeching cxnt and shxt at the top of his voice.
