An end to (previously) never ending nits re-infestation. What are yours?

OP posts:
wizzywig · 18/05/2020 22:00

Saved money by not having childcare. It let me finance a new boiler. Not very exciting i know

ShennaIsAPrawnCracker · 18/05/2020 22:03

My dog is reactive, and walking/training him has become so much easier now people keep their distance!

babybythesea · 18/05/2020 22:06

Yes to no nits!

My kids have discovered a real friendship. There’s quite a big age gap and previously they either ignored each other or argued. Now they have found a way of playing together and have started really enjoying each other’s company.

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 18/05/2020 22:06

Not spending hours a day sitting in shit traffic

Aloethere · 18/05/2020 22:08

My sales are up 500% on this time last year.

TattyDevine · 18/05/2020 22:08

Husband doesn't have to commute, travel abroad or do poncey dinners which he hates, but gets to do the job he loves from home. He's not planning on reopening the London office up any time soon either. So he's spending more time with the kids and we can eat dinner together each night etc.

Daughter is sitting the 11+ and her tutor is doing a free daily webinar of 40 minutes every day so she's able to use the time away from school to concentrate on that which is lucky because her school have done bugger all, but it just goes to show when there's a will there's a way. Couldn't give a fig how she does on the 11+ but it's keeping her on the ball and she's unlikely to have any gaps as I've found they breeze through the SATs if they have a bit of 11+ maths and English hothousing (lets just call it what it is shall we?)

I'm barely spending any money. I don't need anything. Can't go on holiday, to the salon, the gym's closed, so that's good I guess. Well, not for the economy but I'm sure we can all make up for it if we are able to and thoughts are with those who are finding finances tough, it seems to vary so much, hang in there, I hope it gets better.

Fed up though, and wonder when I will see my parents again who live abroad, but we got a visit in at Christmas and they are in rude health so I'm just going to hope things return within a year or two.

Kittenlicker · 18/05/2020 22:08

I’m beginning to realise I can rely on my own resources and I’m super capable of occupying myself. I have loads of creative ideas that I’ve had a chance to unleash since lockdown and I’ve never been bored. Not once. Has given me a bit of a boost.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/05/2020 22:09

For the most part, my mental health has been a lot better as I’m WFH.

papiermaches · 18/05/2020 22:09

Discovered I really, really like my kids and understand them a lot better.
Have a proper notion of how they tick, where they are in they’re learning.

hippoherostandinghere · 18/05/2020 22:10

I've just got so much time to do all the things I never had time to do before.

whistleinthewind · 18/05/2020 22:10

DH is working from home, saves 2hrs a day commute. I'm on mat leave with DDso it's nice to have the extra time as she's usually in bed when he gets home. He's been home to see her crawl for the first time. Stand and let go for the first time, climb the stairs and take her first (aided) steps..... all of which he would have missed as they happened sporadically and I didn't have the camera ready. Not huge milestones, but still development he'd have other wise not seen

pinksquash13 · 18/05/2020 22:13

Husband is spending time with me and precious first baby (12 weeks old). He normally works long hours but is only answering a few emails from home atm. I feel very lucky. Breastfeeding fairly easy due to no visitors and no going out. Enjoying lovely walks - fitness improved.

Greenleavesawash · 18/05/2020 22:17

Saved a shed load of money not commuting or staying away overnight (normally three nights a week).

Cherishing bonus time with early 20s (post uni) DCs.

carlywurly · 18/05/2020 22:17

Reading, baking, decorating, getting fit through daily exercise. Discovering the loveliness of where we live rather just jumping in the car to go further afield.

Time with dcs rather than commuting. Not rushing around and coffee in bed rather than the mad scramble to get out the door in the morning.

Other then missing a pretty amazing holiday, it's been pretty fine.

RhymingRabbit3 · 18/05/2020 22:18

Saving money which we would usually spend on petrol, lunches out, random treats etc.

Eating more healthily because I am in to cook and have to meal plan due to availability of groceries.

Learning that my 3 year old can actually be pretty easily entertained at home and in the locality - we dont have to spend all day every day on outings. (Although once lockdown is over you can bet we will be going on ALL the outings Grin)

rawlikesushi · 18/05/2020 22:20

DP's employer has realised that staff are being just as productive at home and has offered to make it a permanent arrangement for those that want it. This shaves 2hrs of commuting from DP's day.

I know lots of people who have reassessed how much money they actually need, and how valuable more time at home can be - giving up work or going part time once this is over.

jetsetter87 · 18/05/2020 22:25

Cleared my credit card debt down quickly. I had initially projected early next year for full repayment and now it should be gone next month! This will make a massive difference to our monthly available income!
Dh has been doing alot more around the house due to a change in his working hours which has been great

And not having to get up and have a mad rush morning...but play with dc from 8 to just after 9 is great!

firstmentat · 18/05/2020 22:29

My eldest ADHD symptoms are significantly decreased in the absence of the usual stimulation, and he was a textbook case.

imsooverthisdrama · 18/05/2020 22:31

Oh yes definitely don't miss the commute to work and the stress of finding a parking space , never enough spaces .
Ive done some exercise every day .
I've found some nice walks , places I've never been to just 5 mins walk away .
I've nearly cleared my credit card on what I usually spend on my disposable income.
I've made some nice meals / baked .
I'm not tired past 10pm
I've got a tan from gardening.
I just want to add that I'm missing work and normal life , I love my job , the banter and the independence.
I just feel like I'm just someone's mum/wife at the minute and I feel like I've lost a bit of my identity.

rosyribbon · 18/05/2020 22:31

We have saved a surprising amount of money and will now reach our target for a deposit at least a year earlier than expected! Has made us realise just how much we were spending unnecessarily.
Big household/garden jobs that had been put off for years are now getting done.
I have experimented with cooking and baking alot more with being at home all the time and most of the new dishes will be staying in our rotation.

PleasePassTheCoffeeThanks · 18/05/2020 22:31

No commute means one more hour in bed in the morning Grin

TW2013 · 18/05/2020 22:32

Veg boxes.
No school uniform to wash
Not having to wake them in the morning.
The dc learning to plan their own work and timetable which will be good for university study.
Learning to garden.

Slumcat · 18/05/2020 22:38

Had some really lovely chats with my DS, he has ASD, I’ve feel like I’ve been able to see the world through his eyes for the first time.

My toddler DD is an absolute scream loved spending time with her also

I’ve been deployed to ITU and have been on night shifts, my pay has shot up as a result especially compared to my usual wage doing days in a community clinic, Ive cleared a credit card!

UniversallyUnchallenged · 18/05/2020 22:41

My son and husband - the best company. I’ll look back with at this as a very happy time

cariaaad · 18/05/2020 22:45

We had our 3rd round of IVF cancelled due to Coronavirus. Yesterday we got a BFP naturally!!! If this works out we will be over the moon and saved several thousand pounds on more treatment 🤞
