Gas safety check

imoment · 18/05/2020 17:21

The lettings agency has said they have to do a gas safety check but I'm at risk and it doesn't expire for another month.

They seem to say even if I'm self isolating that it needs to be carried out else I have all responsibility.

Is this right? I want to at least delay it until contract tracing is up and running and iv'e still got 3 weeks before it expires.

This threads making me want to head butt a wall

"People in council property moanning about the council wanting to do work on the house

Do you KNOW how lucky you are?

Reminds me of a thread ages ago where a poster was complaining the council wanted to a put a new kitchen in her house FOR FREE"

BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So tenants wont need a rent break during this pandemic as they already dont pay rent and get it all for free right?

And the OP here is nothing to do with the OP who was worried about a kitchen fitting.

Given it took my HA NINE MONTHS to fit a neighbours kitchen and this is only one example i can see why people worry.

Oh and comments like yours post Grenfell...............not a good look.

I had a BT engineer at mine last week. Full PPE Efficient and professional.

I would have no problem with a gas engineer who did the same.

What gets MY back up on these threads is the classist comments about tenants that appear every time.

Oh and @ChilliCheese123 You do realize a lot of HA tenants will be the key workers being clapped for every Thursday night. Im sure you are not a hypocrite though

@helenadove oh give it a rest! So sanctimonious. I don’t clap on a Thursday, AM a keyworker and am the daughter of two keyworkers and I’ve lived in a housing association flat in my life so bore off going on about grenfell

When your Facebook is full of women you went to school with whinging about how the council are so out of order for cutting their grass on a weekend or how they’ve been offered a house swap but the neighbours are ‘Asians’ so they’re not sure, then you understand my frustrations. Especially when I’ve been helping a family member with a shitty private house share she is literally getting ill from - she’d bloody love a council flat.

Thanks @BetsyBigNose for your nice post, yes I think that's a good idea.

As for the rest of you, how many people die from boilers blowing up in the UK? Theres 60 people that die a year from carbonmonoxide and that includes all the people that never get their boiler serviced, commercial kitchens and woodburners. Not people that have 5 weeks left on a boiler certificate.

There's been 35'000 people killed from covid-19 in the last few weeks!! So my risk from the boiler is tiny compared to covid-19. But maybe you don't like facts and statistics!!

OP can you not just pop out Round the block whilst the guy is there and when he comes back, wipe everything ? The risk would be tiny that way.

I'm more worried about picking it up wiping down everywhere. I'm hoping to get him round then leave the house for a few days. Then when I get back blast the heating to kill anything left without having to touch it

@helenadove, honestly it’s always the same and 100% negativity from you, for every negative thing you CONSTANTLY post regarding social housing I can give 10X positive posts, there is good and bad in any industry yet you continue post C&P posts your long forever ending one sided posts Hmm

You only concentrate on the negatory, therefore you’re showing an extreme Bias attitude and behaviour regarding these type of posts.

Your generalising continually however always on the negative.

One/few individuals opinion does not mean everyone feels that way.

You could wear gloves and a mask, get a soapy cloth do the wiping and dispose of the clothes etc. you’ll probably find the engineer wears PPE too

Most places are HA now but there is a smattering of council places left.

Oh and if the ppl you went to school with are "not sure about living next to Asians" then they are twunts

@helena yes, they’re fucking insufferable, that’s my point. Just bc they live in a council house they aren’t immune to being criticized!

And where I am people just say ‘council flat’ or whatever. It’s not offensive don’t worth’s There’s loads of different HA’s no one bothers saying they’re in a Johnnie Johnson or an MHA or whatever.

Where will you stay when you leave the house for a few days... you’ve said your shielding and at risk?

Wear disposable rubber gloves/ marigolds when cleaning down and wash/bin afterwards.

If you want to go to extreme measures, you can wash your clothes after cleaning and shower.

You may not agree with all my posts and thats fine but this tenant at least does not ask for them to be deleted.

The same cant be said of the housing officer upthread!

@HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend i was responding to someone inferring that tenants get their homes for free, They dont. And im not the only one who objects to this stereotype.

HelenaDove I kinda dread when I see your name on a thread because I know it won’t be long until you mention Grenfell then start linking long long articles on the thread. People can discuss housing issues without it having to involve Grenfell, dreadful as we all know it was.

I know it’s a subject dear to your heart, but it can’t be shoehorned into all housing threads.

I don’t like the stereotype and don’t agree with it however she technically isn’t inaccurate.

Tenants pay rent for the market value rent and in line with with inflation, not because of the fixtures and fittings inside.

That’s social housing, the decent homes standard does impact on the rent value.

You may not like it but that’s the reality.

I never inferred people get houses for free, I’m well aware that they pay for it ! You can’t deny that it’s often a damn sight cheaper that they’d be paying for a worse property privately though !
