A coalition of 122 countries are now supporting Australia's call for an independent probe to investigate the causes of the coronavirus pandemic that started in Wuhan, China.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has "felt the wrath" of Beijing, after China then threatened to decimate his country's economy unless the inquiry initiative is dropped.

The need for an inquiry will be voted on by 194 nations at the World Health Assembly on Tuesday and China has increased its belligerent threats towards Australia with a suggestion they may place a crippling tariff on barley exports

What is wrong with an enquiry into something as serious as this? It should be done as standard.

Instead of threatening other countries they should be clear and outline why exactly it is they don't want the inquiry.

I agree, you would have thought they could at least be open to an enquiry as it helps everyone involved.
Are they sorted though? if they are, then again shouldn’t they want others to look at how they managed so effectively. Unless they did it using dubious methods.
I think China has appalling human rights and its attitude towards animals is disgusting. It would further the greater public opinion if the Chinese government cooperated with this enquiry.

I can entirely understand the Chinese being outraged and angry at the proposed investigation. It is insulting in multiple ways. Their threats to retaliate are wrong though.

(Having now read the article, it's actually worse from their point of view than I assumed. A neutral non-political enquiry into the origins of the virus would be bad enough, but alleged wrongdoing by the Chinese government is a specific target for the enquiry.)

Something definitely needs to be done about the Chinese government and the worlds reliance on China as a whole. The lives lost due to coronavirus are squarely on China’s shoulders and they need to take some responsibility for that. If not, they need to face severe sanctions until they do.

She was attacked and called racist.

I pointed out that she clearly wasn't blaming Chinese people in general, but the CCP, and echoed that yes they are to blame.

I was then attacked and banned myself.

It's as though the CCP is above reproach, and these idiots calling everybody racist for holding them accountable are British.

Strangely enough, what these people throwing the racism card about probably don't know, is that Chinese civilians themselves have expressed suspicion and anger at how their leaders have handled things.

Their government are hugely to blame, they tried to cover it up by threatening their HCP's for goodness sake.

I appreciate other leaders haven't handled this perfectly, such as ours and most definitely Trump, but that doesn't remove blame from China.

I don't want to support a country that does these things. I hope large businesses feel the same.

If ever country affected boycotted China, effectively they’d have to comply. However, what would we do in the meantime? And what would the eventual Chinese retaliation be? Even if globally together a conglomerate of countries are stronger than China, any boycott will cause untold damage to out economy.

Like ours would be any different.

Yes, plenty to criticise the Chinese government for, no difficult with that, but the situation is far more nuanced than you or your quoted woman suggests. We can't yet be clear about the origins of the virus and in fact, a pandemic was on the cards one way or another, to a large extent due to population growth & close mammal contact (hence suggestion of 'wet markets' being to blame)

That's how they suppressed it OP. Yes it's hard for us in Western democracies to fathom.

I'm not sure about welding shut, but yes, they absolutely prevented anyone even leaving their apartments, for any reason. You made a call to a designated number, your door was then opened for eg food delivery or to repair something. Very harsh, but the way apartment complexes are set up there. It seems unthinkable to us as we live so differently.
