To think the north of England offers a worse quality of life than the South or Midlands?

I was thinking of moving to Lancashire, but having done some research online, it seems a lot of people have negative opinion of it. I'm now set on Warwickshire or Leicestershire. Does the north in general offer a worse quality of life than the Midlands? I know its cheaper up north but is it much worse up there?

Like membership of the European Union, which Manchester and Liverpool wanted and the South did not.

Do you see what I did there?

It's not a north vs London divide that you see in the Brexit vote, so you can fuck off with that divisive shit.

Souhth West region = 52.63% leave
South East region = 51.78% leave
Manchester = 60.4% remain
Liverpool = 58.2% remain

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 18/05/2020 11:41

I'm so sick of Brexit being presented at a Londoners vs northerners thing. The reality is far more complex than that, and repeating it makes people look about as sensible as the OP in dismissing 'the north' on the basis that she doesn't like the look of Lancashire.

Anyway, Yorkshire beats Lancashire any day of the week.

PotatoAndButterPie · 18/05/2020 11:49

I live in a constituency that voted remain.

Betty's is overrated and makes little effort to cater for allergies and intolerances.

The very best wifi is the top of the fells!

It's raining here today, the first time since March.

Ah now the funny thing was about that, people that voted for it in Cornwall were then shocked and stunned when they realised the bucket tonne of funding we get from the EU would end, you couldn't make it up.

One interviewed on local TV saying "well I voted to leave, but I didn't really think it would happen". Hmmmm ok!! 🤔

Now that's always going to be a good AIBU

How many National Parks does Lancashire have? Parts of it might be pretty (I can see Lend me Hill from my house), but it's got nowt on Yorkshire. Grin

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 18/05/2020 11:56

Pendle Hill! Bizarre typo

Helloooo @BobbinThreadbare123! I'm in a village on top of a bit of a hill, so will wave all around! My view of the fells across the estuary is a bit obscured by cloud and rain today (first we've had for aaages), but is normally very lovely.

I dunno. I think they come joint second to Cumbria. Grin

showmewhatyougot · 18/05/2020 12:00

Oh gosh, don't go north of Hertfordshire! I've heard awful rumors they don't even have a Pret in every 5 miles radius! Can one imagine?

chomalungma · 18/05/2020 12:09

lazylinguist · 18/05/2020 12:13

I have to admit, I'd really like a Pret nearby... I guess I'll have to make do with my amazing local cafés instead. Grin

GuiltyBark · 18/05/2020 12:15

Also you have Bygone Times vintage emporium in Lancashire - my favourite place on earth (well, second to the Lakes but it's close)!

GuiltyBark · 18/05/2020 12:17

As has been pointed out Lancs is nearer to the Lakes/Cumbria (I think) and they knock Yorkshire into a cocked hat!

AnxiousElephant77 · 18/05/2020 12:19

I moved from West Lancashire to Solihull 3 years ago. I'm a scouser and there have actually been protests about how much the house prices have suffered since we got here.

It's more expensive here. That's about the only difference, our quality of life is exactly the same.

Yorkshire has a border with Cumbria.

GuiltyBark · 18/05/2020 12:23

I stand corrected ;)

Zaphodsotherhead · 18/05/2020 12:30

You do need a passport to cross it, though.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 18/05/2020 12:35

Don't even think about it until you've purchased a whippet and a flat cap!

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 18/05/2020 12:37

You can always tell a Yorkshireman.

But you can't tell him much.

joystir59 · 18/05/2020 12:39

I live on the coast/edge of a national park, North Yorkshire. It's absolutely shit here. Please stay away.

GeraltOfRivia · 18/05/2020 12:43

I'm a Yorkshirewoman who moved further north to Geordieland (ish). It's awful, you don't want to come up here. The seaside is shite, the hills are shite, the scenery is shite.

Leave us to it, we have affordable housing because no other bugger would live here Grin

midwestsummer · 18/05/2020 12:48

It definitely does OP, don't be foolish and move from London to Yorkshire like we did.
York isn't full of quaint streets as shown earlier, don't be fooled.
There isn't cheaper housing, good schools, good universities and lots of fresh air.
Oh no, it is cold, ( it really is actually quite cold)
I once lived beside someone who kept pigeons in his backyard.
There are fewer Michelin starred restaurants and one served bread in a flat cap.
Best stay away.

midwestsummer · 18/05/2020 12:53

This is nonsense.

I lived in a city in the North which voted remain, it wasn't the only one.

Wheresthesanitygone · 18/05/2020 12:57

Yorkshire is only there to keep the bad weather off lancashire.

Eh? The prevailing wind in the UK is from the west. It's Lancashire that gets the rain, while glorious Yorkshire basks in sun.

So true, that’s why it always starts raining in the same place on the M62, at the top of the big hill where the bridge is. ( I do know it’s name but it’s gone missing somewhere in my brain)
