To ask if there’s a quick cure for nail fungi

I know this should be under health but I’m hoping for more traffic. Has anyone been able to get rid of it completely without it dragging on for over a year.? I have loceryl off the doctor but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I’m so fed up of it.

Oh...me too. My GP said I had to go via the pharmacist first, I've been using amorolofine (sp?) since October and it's just getting worse...

I saw on here that someone had managed to get rid of toenail fungus using Sainsbury’s mould and mildew remover

So I went to a podiatrist about mine and really there is no quick way. But the paint on treatment does not work as the infection is under the nail on the nail bed so you need really to remove the infected nail so you can treat this. He removed as much as he could and I then sprayed area daily with anti fungal spray like you’d use for athletes foot. It’s still not completely gone so I’ve been carrying on cutting back when I can and spraying.

I have had some success with Optima Australian tea tree nail solution. It would work better if I remembered to use it regularly.

I tried everything the doctors could throw at it for 18 months. Nothing worked, Then a tried Excilor Ultra. You must be consistent using it, and it's not a quick fix, but within 6 months it was gone and never came back. Afterwards the nail was somewhat "icky" - hard, crumbly and looked horrible, so I used Gewohl Toenail softner. I now have sandal feet again!

Oo this is interesting. I read on here that you can’t get rid of it without tablets that also kill your liver and as it’s a cosmetic issue you shouldn’t take them, and I’d resigned myself to having minging feet forever. This has given me a tiny shimmer of hope.

I had tablets for about 6 months - can’t remember what they were called - having had fungal infections for probably 20 years I should have just taken them sooner. Got a blood test done every month as the tablets can have an impact on your liver (maybe kidneys?) but after 6 months it was gone and 5+ years later it’s still gone. It’s a pain it takes so long but nothing else worked for me.

I wouldn't use the tablets. I know what they do to the body.

I'll be honest, I did not believe that the Excilor would work when nothing else had. I just thought that since I'd thrown everything else at it, then I had nothing to lose. Also, forgot to mention, I got it on eBay as it was miles cheaper on there than at the chemists! It lasts a long time - I know I used one full lot, and then most of another, so I'd say that if you see no improvement at all in, say 3-4 months, you won't.

Ooo and another thing, keep the nail as short as possible and when you apply it make sure you paint it under the toenail and into the edges, as well as under the nail as far as you can get.

I got...lucky?...I guess because my toenail lifted off where the infection had grown under it so I was able to treat it with one of those pen things and it went away really quickly. My toe looked horrible for a while until the nail grew back. I hope I never get one again, it's very unpleasant. Good luck!

Following. I have it on 2 nails

Terbinafine tablets were the only thing that cured my fungal toe nails. All topical treatments were pointless and just allowed it to spread, as the fungus lives under the nail plate as paint on stuff never penetrates through.

My husbands a podiatrist. He said vicks vapour rub and lots of patience.

Going to save this thread...my DD (8yrs) has fungal nails. Been going on since she was about 4yrs. Lots of nail clippings sent off and all came back negative until I got an appointment by chance with a nail specialist gp...she explained that the clippings usually came back negative for fungus but one lot had come back positive (however they hadnt told us this) but she could tell from looking there was some kind of fungal infection.

She got the medicine to use for a month but didn't do much and they didn't want to keep using it. So we got the nail lacquer. Been using over a year and just about starting to grow out on one toe. But still not working on other toes yet

Same here. It took 6 months on terbinafine with monthly blood tests. Probably stopped too soon (not happy about possible side effects) because it was back back 6 months later. Stated again, 9 months this time. Back within a year on a different nail. I'm giving up.

It's taken 4 years but I have finally got rid of mine after trying everything on the market the only thing that got rid of it was antifungal medication given to me my gp to sort a different fungal infection I had (even then it took 2 lots of very strong treatment to clear both fungal infections)

White vinegar. Soak nails for half hour then scrape top layer off. Repeat

I have this on one nail it doesn't bother me but I was thinking I should probably try and find something to fix it

My mum got rid of nail fungi with tea tree oil but you have to do it religiously every single day and stick to it for six months.

Vapor rub, the eucalyptus has anti fungal to effects.

I had great success with tea tree oil on my big toe nail, applied liberally at least twice a day. I cut away as much as I could of the nail then kept filing away at the surface. I think it took around 6 months for it to start working and for the damaged nail to grow out and the new nail to grow in. I'm still using the tea tree in a hope that it doesn't return and so far it hasn't.

I had a case that wasn't too bad on my big toe. I cut and filed it back as much as I could and put tea tree oil on it regularly. I cut back and filed any new growth for a few months. Eventually healthy nail started growing. It wasn't a bad case though. I have another toe where the nail isn't quite right but it doesn't seem to have progressed.

I think I’ll give it a go with tea tree oil, do you use it neat?
