I would very curious to see if anyone would have voted differently, or if they had the chance to change their vote now would you?

Lifestyleinlondon88 You are filled with confirmation bias, you are looking at the decisions with hindsight and you have no real idea about the details of what choices had to be made. Most supporters of Boris are usually reluctant to get into a conversation about him because MN is over overwhelmingly left wing and usually shouts down/trolls any positive comments immediately.

I am talking about the virus, not the economy The two are linked. If you spend 100% of your effort/money on just protecting peoples health you could end up destroying the economy and indirectly harming/killing many more people.

for all of those saying Corbyn would’ve been worse, can you explain how? He was an awful decision maker so would likely have caused carnage with his dithering. He hates the private sector and would have been happy to have let every private business in the country go bankrupt. He has a very poor education/low intelligence and could have made very poor choices. He has little grasp of the value of money and on top of what has currently been spent he would probably have added a few zeros to our debt.

Do you not feel the economy was and is being prioritised over people’s health? You mean the way loads of hospitals were built overnight. You mean the way he has pushed the economy into recession just so people didn't have to go into work and risk their health. The way they have got our testing rate as high as Germany's. the way they have actually stopped our country from running out of PPE. The way they they brought in the army in to help, which Corbyn wanted to disband. The way Boris really did get people to 'stay at home'. The NHS wasn't over whelmed like it was in Italy.

they did this for the economy not for people’s health Yea because no ones health would have been at risk if they were forced to go into work, or they were made redundant.

we can only go by what we were advised by WHO directly and how we directly took Action The WHO hasn't exactly performed well in this whole saga.

care home fiasco, can you really say that was part of a great plan? I dont imagine it was part of the plan, no, but the same has happened in many other countries. And you have no idea what the consequences (at the time) if people hadn't been put in care homes. Maybe the NHS would have been over run, maybe many more would have caught the virus and would have all died in hospital anyway.

PPE - If they had acted sooner, this would’ve saved a lot of stress
Great hindsight, shame you didn't raise that point back last year.

Blurring of guidelines so companies could bend the rules and keep staff going in or bringing them back So you mean tanking the economy, forcing all companies to shut down?

Reception and year ones being asked to return when they have no real concept of social distancing So not following the advice of the CMO and the CSA? Keeping people off work for longer than necessary and bankrupting more of the country?

Nurses being told they will not receive a raise or bonuses Why not give the whole country a raise? Have you worked out how to pay for it all?

Boris did shake hands with coronavirus victims though? At the time the advice was that the virus was spread through coughing, so make sure you washed your hands. Shaking hands had not been advised against, so great hindsight again. And if he had refused to shake their hands I imagine the outrage would have been of Boris treating people like they are dirty!

Flights coming in and people have not been quarantined or even tested So again you want to ignore the advice of the CMO and the CSA.

I mean the leader didn’t even return from his holiday to start dealing with it How dare a man have a holiday to ask his girlfriend to marry him. He PM should never be allowed to leave No.10 and he should always know everything before it happens. Confused

psychomath · 16/05/2020 23:00

I didn't vote for them and never have, but I'm not convinced they're handling it significantly better or worse than any other party would have done.

And I am talking about the virus, not the economy.

The economy is a HUGE part of all this though - you can't separate it from deaths caused directly by the virus. Unless you think no-one ever dies due to losing their job or business, or the inevitable cuts to welfare and public services (including the NHS) that will happen in a recession.

I see Corbyn's brother has been arrested yet again ....

🙄🙄🙄🙄

NameChangeNugget · 16/05/2020 23:18

That idiot in London is doing a spectacularly bad job. Worst Mayor yet. How does he sleep?

NamesNamesSoManyNames · 16/05/2020 23:22

I see Corbyn's brother has been arrested yet again ....

In fairness, Corbyn is not responsible for his brothers actions, don't know why it's news worthy that some idiot has been arrested just because he happens to be related to a politician.

rosie1959 · 16/05/2020 23:28

ZombieFan excellent post a little bit of reality

ZombieFan · 16/05/2020 23:29

Its news worthy because Corbyn was very close to becoming PM and his brothers actions do reflect on him to some extent. They did grow up in the same house with the same parents and influences (and Piers was the intelligent one). So it does hint that the country dodged a bullet.

Every time a family member of Boris does anything it becomes news worthy as it reflects on him.

Alymcnabs · 16/05/2020 23:32

There was always Corbyns magic money tree. Never mind, it seems he has given it to Boris now 🙄

To ask whether anyone who voted Conservative regrets it now?
Thornhill58 · 16/05/2020 23:32

Absolutely no regrets. I'll do it again.

pontypridd · 16/05/2020 23:33

I keep wondering whether the Conservatives are actually wishing they hadn't won the election.

Utterlydespairing · 16/05/2020 23:33

My brother in law was a miner in a north east town. Easington, if you want to be particular. Very poor area. Him and a lot of them voted Tory. I was shocked. I honestly didn’t want to say I had voted Tory because, you know, the Left way is the right way and all that. Having grown up in Scotland I was brought up like that.
They’ve had enough of labour. It’s not what it was. I’m far, far better under Tories than Labour. I’m 43. I’ve lived under them both. Labour don’t give a fuck. They want you on benefits so you vote for them. They want you dependant.
I live in Washington. The MP, Sharon Hodgson was a fucking disgrace. Did fuck all until near the end where she had to use the budget up and then say it wasn’t enough. It was. The thing is, if labour control the council, they can never say what they have is enough. It means the Tories are Doing right. They have to plead poverty and then just before the end of year, get stuff done so they don’t have excess otherwise they won’t get the same budget. If you looked into Ito it you’d realise. Everything gets done just before end of year.
The mp got promoted. She did fuck
All. I won’t ever vote for Labour. I grew up in a Scottish ex mining village. If you voted Tory...well, you wouldn’t. You were brainwashed not to by your parents. I went to school with ‘fuck the poll tax’ t-shirt once. I was 11. I don’t even know what it was. I was suspended for a week.

I vote Tory despite still being working class and earning minimum wage. I grew up to have a mind of my own.

No doubt I’ll get flamed but fuck it, I don’t care. I’m of getting abuse from the ‘caring left’

Utterlydespairing · 16/05/2020 23:33

*sick

ZombieFan · 16/05/2020 23:35

Oh and as we are talking about families dont forget Corbys son runs a company selling cannabis products, which Jeremy has long campaigned to legalise.

Something we could all use during lock down Wink

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 16/05/2020 23:35

I don't regret it at all.

NoForksToGive · 16/05/2020 23:42

I didn’t vote for him but my in-laws did and they’re now doubling down on him because they hate the idea of being proved wrong more than the hate the idea of 50,000 people dying unnecessarily. They gave me some bullshit “but you can’t talk down on the government” speech today. I guarantee the only reason is because they don’t know anyone who’s died of the virus. Or even had it in fact.

Between Brexit and COVID, there are some aspects of British culture that I’m finding utterly repugnant. This is as a lifelong conservative voter, if I had somewhere else to go I would do. The lack of compassion and blind belief in selfish outdated individualistic values in some people, not all, is just beyond me.

I’ve NC btw, not just new and having a rant.

rabbitwoman · 16/05/2020 23:43

Only read page 1. Already corbyn getting bashed. He is not the leader any more folks.

I just don't get it. Boris is a fool, a blunderer, the list of his fuck ups is as long as his nose and all in the public domain ;he is a liar, incompetent, ridiculous joke of a man....

Corbyn is a tireless campaigner, fighter for human rights, he has integrity, sincerity, dignity..... I just don't get it.

What am I missing?

NoForksToGive · 16/05/2020 23:44

Just to qualify, I’m not a lefty. I just hate everything this country stands for. Or doesn’t stand for.

In fact, what does it stand for? Genuine question.

BambinoJune · 16/05/2020 23:44

Dear Tory voters,

Instead of always comparing the government's response to how it might have been with Jeremy Corbyn, could you compare to, say, an actual response from another government, eg Angela Merkel?

Thank you

NoForksToGive · 16/05/2020 23:46

Because we can only compare ourselves to countries that are worse than us surely. Like Italy.

Oh wait. Why haven’t we heard about Italy for the last two weeks??

LastTrainEast · 16/05/2020 23:51

I'm glad I voted Tory and I was a lifelong labour supporter before this. There was only one party on offer. Like being on a plane with one pilot and trying to decide if he should take the controls or perhaps a dentist.

I'm sorry that some people have to deal with the virus AND not getting their own way. It must be especially traumatic. Especially after the Brexit result.

Rebelwithallthecause · 16/05/2020 23:56

Very glad of conservatives if Jeremy Corbyn was to be the alternative for this pandemic
Especially with his loon of a brother going about on lockdown protests and spouting rubbish about 5G

NoForksToGive · 17/05/2020 00:03

I'm sorry that some people have to deal with the virus AND not getting their own way. It must be especially traumatic. Especially after the Brexit result.

What do you mean @LastTrainEast? Sorry it’s not clear but I’m trying to see your point

NoForksToGive · 17/05/2020 00:08

Perhaps a better question is rather than resurrecting the tribalism of 2016-19....

To ask whether anyone who voted Conservative thinks they’re shit.

As fair point, comparing to JC doesn’t really achieve anything. You can not regret voting conservative AND think they’re shit, they are mutually exclusive unlike the JC / BJ version.

colouringindoors · 17/05/2020 00:59

Lots more no regrets. Is there a number of deaths at which Conservatives May have a tiny, tiny doubt in the back of their minds?

2nd highest deaths in the world. I'm no Corbyn fan either but I don't believe for a minute that Labour would have gone for herd immunity.
