To think it’s about time @MNHQ stepped up and did something about the teacher bashing.

This evening has been AWFUL here on the AIBU board.

@MNHQ, at what point do you actually plan to intervene and do something about the sheer number of teacher bashing threads, and individual posts? Should we expect any kind of moderation?

Or, is this in fact, “all in the spirit of Mumsnet”? Because at the moment, you’re making it look a darn sight like you agree by proxy.

I think as usual the government (and all do this) have done a great job of dividing us and encouraging us to blame everyone (ie schools and teachers) when in reality they have not been honest to parents what they are expecting schools to do

Exactly, yes! And when we try to explain this we aren’t heard because we’ve been demonised so effectively.

For anyone interested in learning more about the data in a non-sensationalist way, there is a really useful series of Mumsnet threads here:

Do you know even one person “getting it” makes the head against a brick wall kind of worth it so thank you

It's absolutely appropriate to use the word bash for some of what is on here. There's a lot of vitriol and misinformation being spread by people who seem bizarrely obsessed with having a go at teachers and schools.

What seems to happen is the following

Situation 1 - OP asks valid questions about their school, gets some advice based on their school, then some posters turn up to make shitty generalisations and generally have the same old moan about teachers, what teachers will/won't do.

Situation 2: An OP asks a perfectly valid question about their school experience, but instead of leaving it there feels the need to tag on the end a bit of Coronavirus school bingo about how crap schools and why teachers are lazy.

In both situations, any challenge to the goady folk only prompts more goading. You can't reason with stupid.
Goady poster: yeah but what exactly are teachers doing all day? They're on extended holiday
Teacher: actually this is what I'm doing
Goady: see, look at teachers thinking they work harder than anyone else

Goady: Teachers just don't want to do their job
Teachers: we do, but we also want school openings phased and managed in a way that keeps everyone safe
Goady: oooh look at teachers thinking they're special. They should try being a critical care nurse or having a job in the real world

In the section from government guidance on what are the expectations on schools regarding staying in touch with parents whose child is at home:

We recognise that many schools have already shared resources for children who are at home and are grateful for this. Further support includes: a list of educational online resources which have been identified by some of the country’s leading educational experts to help pupils to learn at home; enhanced education provision from the BBC to include daily lessons, starting from 20 April 2020; resources from Oak National Academy, a sector led initiative to support teachers educating their pupils remotely during the summer term

Eton, Harrow, Winchester and a fair few public schools have all announced they won't be reopening until September so very few of the people actually making the decision that it's safe to send certain year groups back won't be putting their kids at risk.

It's using the plebs as Guinea Pigs.
