To think it’s about time @MNHQ stepped up and did something about the teacher bashing.

This evening has been AWFUL here on the AIBU board.

@MNHQ, at what point do you actually plan to intervene and do something about the sheer number of teacher bashing threads, and individual posts? Should we expect any kind of moderation?

Or, is this in fact, “all in the spirit of Mumsnet”? Because at the moment, you’re making it look a darn sight like you agree by proxy.

Don't forgot the magically free ports cabins we can install.
We already have two classrooms permanently in them. They took a fair while to install - ground prep, removal of planting and established trees, etc and then a day to close the local roads to install them and then the time after to fit them out etc and the purchase of additional furniture and equipment and attaching the the mains supplies. Oh - and nowhere flat enough for more.

MuthaClucker · 16/05/2020 11:58

Why wouldn’t part time be acceptable?

dreamingbohemian · 16/05/2020 11:59

Not acceptable to whom?

Aragog · 16/05/2020 11:59

Dreaming - the newest guidelines have told heads that we can't have part time rotas and that max class size is 15. And they can't swap rooms etc unless they are deep cleaned ( or just surface clean) between times.

spanieleyes · 16/05/2020 12:00

Part time isn't allowed and rotas aren't allowed. At the moment we can split the R/1/6 children between the classrooms we have and keep within the 15 children per group. But that takes up every classroom we have. If the government says we have to take any more year groups back, we will simply be back to" normal" class sizes.

Nicknacky · 16/05/2020 12:00

dreamingbohemian Not acceptable to Howaboutanewname. She commented on it.

dreamingbohemian · 16/05/2020 12:01

Ok, if you could go part-time, you would have a class size of 10 at any one time. Each class stays in its room the whole time. (This is what we are doing here.)

Could schools and unions use this as a negotiating tactic? Fine, you want us to re-open -- let us do it part-time.

Aragog · 16/05/2020 12:01

Why wouldn’t part time be acceptable

That's what the guidelines sent out says.
Schools shouldn't offer art time or rotas. Children should return full time.

Obviously if part time was fine, allowing time for a proper clean between, then we can solve it easier. But not if we have to follow the guidelines sent to us by the DfE.

SachaStark · 16/05/2020 12:02

Fucking hell, the “can do” people haven’t even read the guidelines!

Nothing like not having a clue about the subject you’re complaint about publicly, eh? 😂

MN is fairly liberal and supportive of the public sector as a whole.
Outside, people are feeling even less so.

dreamingbohemian · 16/05/2020 12:02

Sorry nicknacky that's who I meant to respond to!

TooLittleTooLate80 · 16/05/2020 12:02

@MNHQ at least employ some consolidation of threads then. I'm not a teacher and maybe many years ago I possibly even subscribed to the "9-3 and 14 weeks holiday" theory until you get to know how much teachers actually do but I've never seen a sinlge profession that possibly does as much for kids as any other be completely vilified. Not just that but the answers to the repeated questions are in so many other threads.

Aragog · 16/05/2020 12:03

Dreaming - it's one of the things being suggested by unions and by schools. The statement to say part time shouldn't happen was in the latest of the guidelines sent to school.

Howaboutanewname · 16/05/2020 12:05

@Nicknacky. I think your question has been answered but just in case you didn’t hear, it isn’t schools who are saying part time is not acceptable. It’s the Government,

Bollss · 16/05/2020 12:05

So, what to teachers want to happen in September?

dreamingbohemian · 16/05/2020 12:05

And the government can't change the guidelines? They're changing the rules every day anyway.

Aragog · 16/05/2020 12:05

Nicknacky

So we ignore the guidelines to make it work?
We just take the risk and hope for the best?

spanieleyes · 16/05/2020 12:05

The trouble is, people just listen to the government sound bites and don't read the details! No part time, no rotation, it's in the guidelines schools are sent, try reading them!

TooLittleTooLate80 · 16/05/2020 12:06

We completely accept that teachers will be unhappy with many of the threads about education at the moment

But hardly any are about education?

Daffodil101 · 16/05/2020 12:06

It’s absolutely true that the government guidelines aren’t achievable. Anyone can see that.

Could open up for key groups with the right PPE though.

dreamingbohemian · 16/05/2020 12:08

Thanks Aragog. All I've seen covered in the media is that teachers and unions don't want schools opened at all. I would hope there could be broad-based support for part-time, especially if it's working in other countries.

I think it would reassure parents to know that other options are being suggested too.

Howaboutanewname · 16/05/2020 12:08

We will need children on a rota from September until such a time as it is deemed safe for us all to be in school. Did you really think schools could go back full time?

nellodee · 16/05/2020 12:09

I understand why people are unhappy with children getting a single worksheet. There's no excuse for it. I completely agree people should be able to come on here and discuss what is being done well at some schools and that we teachers should hope to match the best provision. I think there are reasons why it may not always be zoom, but I sincerely agree that all schools should be making the effort to provide a reasonable amount of accessible work to every student.

I also agree that some teachers are lazy twats. I don't think there are many of them and I think that when they are in school the system forces them to work pretty hard as a bare minimum. But yes, we have people who take the piss out of our generous working conditions and trust me, since we have to pick up the slack for them, we probably despise them even more than you do. That goes for pretty much every job I've ever been in (except home care - I can honestly say that every single person I worked with in home care many years ago was a superstar, so shout out to you workers!)

What is not needed are the comments about teachers enjoying sitting around all day on full pay, the ones that speak in terms of all teachers, the ones that say we think we are special, the ones that tell us we shouldn't be getting a wage and the ones that tell us to hand our notice in if we don't want to work in unsafe conditions.

Even on the goadiest posts, however, most people are very supportive and polite, even when they are bringing up very valid concerns about the provision their children are receiving. To those posters, I say a big thank you.

This is exactly the point schools are trying to make! But apparently we're 'squabbling'!

I'd accept that. It's not brilliant but it's better than nothing.

To be honest yes if pubs are open then yes I'd expect schools to be open full time.
