Classroom Lessons via Zoom

AIBU to expect the teachers at my daughter’s rs primary school to offer at least some lessons via Zoom? The feedback I have been given is that that they aren’t offering it due to a) safeguarding issues, and b) it would add to the teachers workload. Well, surely if we parents consent for our child to sign in for these lessons then no safeguarding issue. Plus, at present, we parents are doing at least 60% of the teachers work for them via homeschooling. (I appreciate that they are setting work for the children, but this is part of the planning they would do anyway).

Saying something you don't want to hear isn't an excuse to be rude.

Other schools are doing it. So there is clearly a valid debate to be had.

NeverTwerkNaked · 17/05/2020 01:04

@penguin I didn't make it up. Other teachers have told me that.

Never Your concern for deprived children just shines through ... pull the other one love. You’re having a go, just like you’ve been doing all week on all the other threads. I work in a Primary school in a deprived area. We are working flat out (don’t know why I said that as you won’t believe me). Less than a third of our kids have access to a laptop. We send paper homework’s and tasks out using dojo which can be accessed from parents phones. We ring parents every week. We are not set up for zoom or google classroom or any other platform and our LA forbids it anyway. Private schools aren’t subject to the sane restrictions. What would you have us do?

@penguinsbegin you do realise you can mute the mike's and have it so people can't see each others videos?

And as a parent who has experienced domestic violence I am profoundly worried for those children who are experiencing it and not in school right now. And the name calling from people on this thread has been horribly triggering for me. So thanks for making a debate personal when it really didn't need to be .

JimmyGrimble · 17/05/2020 01:08

And yes it’s a fucking dirty disgrace that state schools in deprived areas aren’t as well supported or funded as those in the private sector. Who. Fucking. Knew.

@penguinsbegin no if it is untrue that means someone who is a teacher (or purports to be on Mumsnet) made it up

Yes, we’re profoundly worried about some of our kids too. Which is why a team of us visit them three times a week!

NeverTwerkNaked · 17/05/2020 01:14

Oh so which teachers on Mumsnet am I meant to believe ? Just the ones who personally insult me ?

And I have never once said I am angry at individual teachers. I am angry at the system that is letting down all sorts of children right now.

twerk we can only look at what we know about our families. Some things would be red flags to us and we would know we would need to check up. Sustained lack of communication would be one. Again I ask you what would you have us do, given the situation?
