Do delivery guys get annoyed delivering non essentials.

Just wondering ^^

Have got a fair bit delivered since lockdown. Mainly amazon but some others. Obviously they don’t know what’s inside the parcels most of the time but some of have writing on the side. Some things have been delivered without packaging.

Had three birthdays to buy for so ordering gifts.

Needed to order other half some work clothes.

Ordering bits we need from amazon.

Ordering cleaning supplies as not much left in the shops.

Also ordered birthday cards etc.

Do delivery guys get annoyed with the amount of people getting things delivered or are they happy to do so?

Worried they hate me 🤣 had two from Amazon this week, two from Hermes and two from Royal Mail 🤨 they are probably starting to recognise me! 🙈

Also from Argos!

Why would they?

Presumably they have bills to pay, dc to feed. They are earning a wage and have one of the secure jobs at the moment

Spam88 · 15/05/2020 12:28

Hermes are paid per parcel I think so they're probably grateful for the business (I hope so anyway because I've been ordering a lot from H&M 😂). I feel like Royal Mail postal workers are always grumpy about delivering parcels though...

mag12 · 15/05/2020 12:29

Thank you. I have read a few posts about delivery guys being annoyed at non essentials being delivered!

The local Hermes guy was probably sick of my face before lockdown to be honest 🤣 I live in the middle of nowhere and no decent shops so always ordered a lot!

(A ) they don’t know what is in the package
(B) at this time the more people
Working and doing aging tax the better

1990shopefulftm · 15/05/2020 12:34

The Hermes delivery guy thanked me and said to keep ordering things to keep them going, I believe normally they drive a taxi full time but had lost some income, so I ve kept ordering things.

WonderWebbs · 15/05/2020 12:35

I placed an order from our local independent garden centre before Easter. When the guy dropped the goods off on our drive I half apologised to him as it wasn't an 'essential item' but he said local deliveries where keeping him in a job. People need to earn a living and I was happy to spend my money on a local business.

Dinosforall · 15/05/2020 12:38

I don't see ours any more, they are always pulling away by the time I get to the door Grin

mag12 · 15/05/2020 12:40

That’s true @Dinosforall. I always give them a little wave and a thank you and think of my god they must hate me 🤣 it’s a long running joke with my partner about how much I order! But like I say we have no decent shops here at the best of times! I do try and buy locally too! 😀

How do you know what's in the parcel, unless it's come from overseas and has a customs declaration on it?

cologne4711 · 15/05/2020 12:43

I have read a few posts about delivery guys being annoyed at non essentials being delivered

Really? The only posts I have read like that have been on here, by virtue signalling MNers.

Actually they know about my non-essentials as I have ordered wine twice and it says wine on the box in big letters! But the rest eg running shoes and a couple of items of clothing for DH and DS, they'll have no idea what's in there.

Littlemissdaredevil · 15/05/2020 12:45

The Sainsburys delivery man commented that I was the only person who ordered an normal amount of shopping in March when he delivered. One person had ordered 8 crates full of bottled water that was filling quite a bit of the truck!

Straycatstrut · 15/05/2020 12:47

Mine delivers what is clearly alcohol. He's always so cheery and friendly (and quite gorgeous!) I will def keep ordering!

CuppaZa · 15/05/2020 12:49

I’ve been ordering quite a bit recently. I’ve taken to apologising to the postie and couriers. My postie laughed and said dont be silly, the couriers were not so friendly Blush

AudaCityLimits · 15/05/2020 12:52

Our Hermes driver is plastering all over facebook, moaning about how people are putting him at risk by ordering non-essentials. It's shitty of him imo.

Fluffybutter · 15/05/2020 12:54

Ours aren’t , they’re just as cheerful as normal and happy to have a job and money coming in

bigbluebus · 15/05/2020 12:54

I don't know if they hate you but I hate them. I live in a rural area with lots of country lanes that should be quiet and safe for walking/cycling - which far more people are doing at the moment. They are far from safe due to the huge numbers of van drivers tearing around bends at great speed in order to get the huge numbers of parcels they now how delivered by the end of the day. They've clearly developed the ability to see round bends and over high hedges - not.

Onone · 15/05/2020 12:56

Well we need to keep the economy going,iv ordered garden furniture, plants, stuff for the kids, flood lights, most delivery drivers are self employed

Gawdsake2020 · 15/05/2020 12:57

How do they know what’s essential and what isn’t though? Clothes, electricals etc can all be essential if you need them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

dayswithaY · 15/05/2020 12:59

Why would they care if they're getting paid? I doubt they have time to ponder the contents of your parcel.

HollowTalk · 15/05/2020 13:01

I doubt they'd rather be unemployed.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 15/05/2020 13:04

Yeah I've only seen any reticence on here in an orgy of virtue signalling (which has become entertainingly less and less as lock down has gone on...I am presuming many of those who lambasted others in the first couple of weeks are now realising that it's not quite the evil act they thought it was) or on eyebrow raising posts from the odd person on Facebook that got shouted down by others who wanted the work.

We know a courier and he was clear he still wanted to be working (I mean he very much appreciated people taking infection control precautions when he delivered ) and thought the virtue signalling stuff was ridiculous and royally took the mick out of it.

Longdistance · 15/05/2020 13:07

I’ve had nothing but happy chaps delivering my parcels. Some are food, some wine (delivery driver cracked up laughing at the excitement on my face) and some clothes.
I’m sure they’re happy they’re busy and getting paid.

PumpkinP · 15/05/2020 13:13

None of them seem annoyed to me. They all have been very happy and friendly

Yokohamajojo · 15/05/2020 13:17

I know Hermes get a bad press but our delivery lady is just brilliant! spoke to her the other day and she said she had delivered 173 packages that day and it was midday! Whenever I am out walking the dogs or kids I see her around, working super hard and being nice about it. She did say she was a bit miffed with one person the other day who was sending something back but hadn't bothered to package it and expected her to wait for her to do it
