Just wondering ^^

Have got a fair bit delivered since lockdown. Mainly amazon but some others. Obviously they don’t know what’s inside the parcels most of the time but some of have writing on the side. Some things have been delivered without packaging.

Had three birthdays to buy for so ordering gifts.

Needed to order other half some work clothes.

Ordering bits we need from amazon.

Ordering cleaning supplies as not much left in the shops.

Also ordered birthday cards etc.

Do delivery guys get annoyed with the amount of people getting things delivered or are they happy to do so?

Worried they hate me 🤣 had two from Amazon this week, two from Hermes and two from Royal Mail 🤨 they are probably starting to recognise me! 🙈

Maybe you should walk on a footpath instead of the road

Country lanes usually don't have pavements!

cologne4711 · 15/05/2020 14:10

One person had ordered 8 crates full of bottled water that was filling quite a bit of the truck

That was bizarre. Did people think they were going to catch covid from their tap?

BlueBrian · 15/05/2020 14:10

Most drivers don't know or care whats in your parcel, you're just one of maybe a hundred drops a day, nobody's got the time to worry about it.

Nanasueathome · 15/05/2020 14:12

DPD Chris has been to my house the last 3 days running
It’s food I’ve ordered after recommendation from mumsnet, all from different places
I’m sure it’s the neighbours that talk about me rather than Chris

rka2017 · 15/05/2020 14:18

Our postman said, very busy parcel delivery is like Christmas

SussexBonfireViking · 15/05/2020 14:26

I ordered a parcel and they somehow dropped my house number off it. I have tried contacting both the company and Hermes! nothing nada diddly squat!

put a post out for the local delivery lady, and she seems to have found it and is hopefully delivering it today

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 15/05/2020 14:26

I actually know which courier has been by the delivery guy now, it's the same ones every day. (And yes they do come, most days!)

GrumpyHoonMain · 15/05/2020 14:28

My delivery woman has advised me not to group deliveries for the moment so she can make more money (she’s the only one doing deliveries in my area at the moment) so that’s what I did. I recycle packaging anyway and she only comes once a week so the impact to the environment is minimal

biglouis · 15/05/2020 14:31

I had an Amazon delivery today none of the items (vitamin suppliments, stationary items) were exactly essential but thats not the point. Delivery guys are paid to deliver, not to pass moral judgement on what customers order. If there were no customers they would not have a job. Simples.

ekidmxcl · 15/05/2020 14:32

I would hope that a delivery person is working in a fairly isolated environment and that they are safe. As long as they are delivering packages that can be picked up by one person only then they should be better off working.

listsandbudgets · 15/05/2020 14:35

A long standing friend of mine is a Hermes driver. He says he's doing well out of the current situation as

  1. He has more parcels to deliver so he gets paid more
  2. He can get through the round much faster even with more parcels because there's less traffic

As long as its legal and not obviously indecent (he once got a parcel of very obviously used knickers in clear plastic packaging!) I don't think he gives a damn what he delivers

papiermaches · 15/05/2020 14:44

Why would they? They're being paid to deliver, we order stuff and they deliver!
I'm helping out some families in isolation with shopping and there are deffo things on there that would be considered non- essential, but I've volunteered to help, so I help. I don't judge what they want me to fetch for them.

tentative3 · 15/05/2020 14:46

I only think it's shitty if you're like my friend who was happy to sit at home when this all first kicked off ordering stuff but is now full of rage at how at risk she's going to be because her company are now expecting staff in (she's not shielding, obviously). Otherwise crack on (ordering from independents wherever possible though!).

Redskylark · 15/05/2020 14:48

My Hermes driver said he wanted people to keep ordering so he could work. My post lady said royal mail were treating them badly, not offering any ppe or properly putting social distancing measures in place, she was really cross about the whole situation

YgritteSnow · 15/05/2020 14:50

Mine all seem their usual cheerful selves. I imagine its quite a good time to be a delivery driver tbh, empty roads so fast deliveries and early knock off or extra deliveries and more money.

alittlecloudfloatinginthesky · 15/05/2020 14:50

I'm a postie... I don't care what's in your parcels (just that you open the door to receive them promptly!), and I've bought some non-essential stuff online myself.

Some posties are grumpy about delivering non-essential stuff, but if they didn't have that to complain about it would be something else. They are in the minority.

bigbluebus · 15/05/2020 14:50

@Tacograph - and get chastised for daring to touch stiles and gates! There are no/very few pavements around here and you still need to walk on the roads to get between footpaths. You obviously live in an urban area.

Booboodisney · 15/05/2020 14:52

My best mates dp is a self employed driver for I think dhl , he’s chuffed that he’s so busy

Lifeaback · 15/05/2020 14:54

I don’t think they care what they’re delivering- the job is the same regardless of if they’re delivering toilet roll or a handbag, a parcel is a parcel.

Our local Hermes driver is the friendliest man I have ever met so I always have a little chat with him when he delivers to us- he told me that he gets paid for each parcel he delivers so he’s loving all the extra orders! Though I guess like a lot of key workers some of them are probably a bit resentful that they have to work when so many people have been furloughed and are getting a ‘holiday’ of sorts.

abstractprojection · 15/05/2020 14:59

I know a couple and they are seriously pissed off with how the depos are being run, no social distancing and no one giving a shit, and no hand sanitizer etc. Being forced to take on more and more parcels, being paid less per parcel the more they deliver, and not being allowed to take time off or even a whole weekend despite being ‘self-employed’.

In terms of deliveries they don’t care what they are.

abstractprojection · 15/05/2020 15:00

Just to add they do really appreciate it when people social distance when reviving parcels

MerryDeath · 15/05/2020 15:07

presumably they work because they need the money

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 15/05/2020 15:07

Ordered a few bits from Debenhams. Then forgot different things come from different warehouses so been a case of oh me again!
They seem happy enough though. Quite a nice happy courier.

MrKlaw · 15/05/2020 15:11

I might have to buy DPD Jagit a christmas card at this rate.

Nubbled · 15/05/2020 15:16

I had a case of wine delivered today, shouted down the drive to the driver telling him to leave it outside the gate, which he did. I said thank you and he replied thank you and have a good weekend. So he seemed happy.
