Do delivery guys get annoyed delivering non essentials.

Just wondering ^^

Have got a fair bit delivered since lockdown. Mainly amazon but some others. Obviously they don’t know what’s inside the parcels most of the time but some of have writing on the side. Some things have been delivered without packaging.

Had three birthdays to buy for so ordering gifts.

Needed to order other half some work clothes.

Ordering bits we need from amazon.

Ordering cleaning supplies as not much left in the shops.

Also ordered birthday cards etc.

Do delivery guys get annoyed with the amount of people getting things delivered or are they happy to do so?

Worried they hate me 🤣 had two from Amazon this week, two from Hermes and two from Royal Mail 🤨 they are probably starting to recognise me! 🙈

I feel like I’m keeping amazon in business at the moment 😂😂 the delivery guys have been brilliant, one package today was huge and heavy and when I opened the door he requested I stood in my other room, so I backed up and he put it inside my house (staying outside himself) and said keep the orders coming! I thanked him (as always) and said stay safe.
A few weeks ago I had a box of pull-ups delivered and the box was labelled as such, the only comment he gave was ‘brilliant, Asda didn’t have any last time I was in, I’ll order from amazon instead’ 🤷🏻‍♀️
Lots of birthdays here too, I don’t feel bad about ordering because they’re all wearing ppe and seem really pleased to be earning an income

I know our local Hermes courier and she's quite happy for the extra work at the minute. Makes me feel a little less guilty about buying shit during lockdown.

Bella2020 · 15/05/2020 15:28

I'm quite chatty with one of the lovely couriers who delivers to our house and I asked her this a few weeks ago. She's happy that she's still working and is taking as much extra work on as she can. Bills to pay, like the rest of us. She wasn't resentful of delivering non-essentials (it's mostly clothes for me, as usual) at all. I don't think she cares what people order so long as they keep on doing it.

For people who are judgey about those of us ordering stuff online during the lockdown, think carefully before expressing ill-informed opinions. I'm disabled, I certainly can't manage a shopping day round the city centre looking for clothes, toiletries and other 'non-essentials' so I have to order online. Lockdown is nothing new to me and many more with similar problems; we have lived in lockdown for years and I consider myself lucky if I can get away from the house once a month.

I'm so happy that couriers are still prepared to deliver during this crisis, I always express my gratitude and practice social distancing if I answer the door.

This morning my Fedex driver said how much easier it is in lockdown because people are mostly at home when he knocks.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 15/05/2020 15:31

We have a lovely Hermes lady. I'd be glad to learn that she is doing well financially at the moment, we live fairly rurally and she works hard.

Xmasfairy86 · 15/05/2020 15:36

Glad it’s not just me that appears to have an online shopping issue at the moment! All couriers that have delivered seem quite happy. They don’t really care what’s in the parcel. They’re getting paid.

DH is a courier, he’s Xmas busy - it’s mental. All his regulars are very thankful for what he’s doing. He’s being given all sorts in the form of tips, money, eggs, cakes, wine!

Lily193 · 15/05/2020 15:39

Ask them - our amazing DHL courier has told us repeatedly he's glad to be busy and feels he can work safely, same for the DPD and Hermes couriers we've spoken with. We will give them all lovely gifts to show our appreciation as soon as we are able.

Orangecake123 · 15/05/2020 15:50

My father's a postman. He's happy because of all the over time he's getting.

His london branch gave him hand gel and he will also be getting a £200 bonus at the end of june.

Orangecake123 · 15/05/2020 15:51

He's happy.

Devlesko · 15/05/2020 16:07

My friend says SHE (why should they be men) sexist.
says she is just happy to have a job, and is happy people are ordering.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/05/2020 16:10

Do they not get paid per drop?

LimitIsUp · 15/05/2020 16:12

If they do, meh, I don't care. They can get over themselves.

MillyMollyMardy · 15/05/2020 16:16

I've had to start ordering shoes and clothes for the kids as they've grown during lockdown. The delivery drivers have all been lovely.

Someonesayroadtrip · 15/05/2020 17:19

I've had a mixed bunch, some really happy for the work and others less so. One made comments every time and would say things to my neighbour too, I was always apologising and in the end my husband told him to pack it in. But most have been so lovely and said they were great full for the extra work, some did it as a side job and the "proper" job ended so they were really happy and with most people at home it's much easier for them.

I did have a Royal Mail man throw my fragile parcel this week and when I pointed it out he was really rude, it had quail eggs in it and they all smashed, it could well not have been him but equally that really didn't help the mess I was left to deal with. So that was annoying and upsetting.

My normal Royal Mail staff are amazing though and again happy to be working.

sunflowery · 15/05/2020 17:37

I’ve got a friend who delivers for Hermes and they get paid per parcel so are pleased people are ordering so much atm!

sunflowery · 15/05/2020 17:38

They are self employed at the end of the day so don’t have to deliver

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 15/05/2020 17:41

I'm baffled by the one making comments. What's it got to do with him what people are ordering? There's no ban on ordering non essentials online and everyone I know is doing it. Keeps the economy going and people in work.

Luxplus · 15/05/2020 18:36

I have sent some parcels from Denmark to the UK and it's taken longer than usual but my friend says the postie been happy to deliver for her...

Isleepinahedgefund · 15/05/2020 18:45

No, because essentials is a made up definition by people on mumsnet.

Sultanarama · 15/05/2020 18:55

Our dpd driver Dwane is outstanding - always smiling knows when you're in, he's brilliant. We get Majestic delivery, used to go to the shop now the shop delivers, always amazing too. Postie is cheery, loves my dog, Ocado man/woman great too! If all these people hate me - they do a great job at hiding it!

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 15/05/2020 19:12

I wouldn't have thought so.

If they're unhappy about it they could resign. If everyone resorted to ordering nothing but the essentials of life there would be widespread redundancies anyway.
