It should make us hopeful !! Lockdown will definitely be eased and life could go back a bit to normal !

OP posts:
itsaweddingone · 15/05/2020 11:18

@Oaktree55 but that hasn't worked for Singapore if they are back in lockdown as you say?

Sparklingplasters · 15/05/2020 11:21

Unless everyone in London has already been exposed to the virus then this nonsense. Pure fabrication and wishful thinking

Oaktree55 · 15/05/2020 11:22

It works better than not doing it! I tell you what everyone who wants to be optimistic that this is all going to magic away and ignore the science go ahead. Those of us who read the reliable science or peer reviewed stuff not the tabloids latest bunk science can carry on in reality.

Bollss · 15/05/2020 11:24

Fabrication by the university of Manchester and PHE? I see.

nibdedibble · 15/05/2020 11:25

This doesn’t have to be us against them, dementors against the positive thinking brigade.

What we have to know is that articles, threads, stories are seeded and spun, at all times, by all sides. There’s no truth any more.

It looks like politicians are testing the waters by seeing how we react to rumours and potential changes. If you read something like this it doesn’t mean it’s a recommendation, based on a solid foundation. Every epidemiologist knows that if London is taken out of lockdown, cases will rise again. But now the government has seeded the idea that London could be virus-free...that’s simply not a truth. They’ve pitted those who believe it against those who can’t and turned your focus to emotion and outrage instead of true versus false. Was the same with Brexit. Don’t let them do that - we stand to lose so much more than we already have.

Bollss · 15/05/2020 11:26

I tell you what everyone who wants to be optimistic that this is all going to magic away and ignore the science go ahead

Don't think anyones said "magic away" ps this is "the science"

What do you suggest then we all prepare for our sudden deaths or just never leave the house again?

Theyre implementing tracking and tracing and testing...

Iwalkinmyclothing · 15/05/2020 11:27

It is really good to see the rate of new infections in London has dropped so significantly.

Not that relevant to me as someone who doesn't live in or near London but still, good news.

The antibody test news was also very good, I am so hopeful that when it is rolled out we will learn that many more of us have had it without realising than is currently known. Please before anyone screeches at me, I am also aware it may well NOT show that. But that's my hope.

notimagain · 15/05/2020 11:28

Last few morning I have been woken by planes flying over (London) at 5.00 in the morning. Haven't had that for about six weeks so I reckon the airports will be back in business pretty soon

Many of us wish that but...

Certainly the daily movement rate into Heathrow has been pretty constant much lower rate than normal for several weeks now - I'm not sure why you are perceiving an increase because there definitely hasn't been a sudden significant upturn in the last few days.

..and the vast majority of inbound flights done by the likes of BA and Virgin are freight only.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 15/05/2020 11:30

Fucking hell some of you are like a rabid dog the way you talk to an OP you disagree with

Vile ,. Were you bullies at school ??!

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/05/2020 11:32

Those of us who read the reliable science or peer reviewed stuff not the tabloids latest bunk science can carry on in reality

There is very little peer reviewed stuff related to coronavirus as yet, there hasn’t been time for it to be peer reviewed. I do however read the studies the articles are based on, in this case one done by the University of Manchester and PHE.
Being optimistic doesn’t mean we think it’s going to ‘magic away’. It means that we’re starting to see glimmers of hope in what is otherwise a pretty grim situation. If there wasn’t any hope, any at all, why would we all bother getting out of bed in the morning?

Laaf80 · 15/05/2020 11:36

@frazzledasarockhow much us the congestion charge increased to? Can you provide a link?

I’m not surprised that London rates have gone down.

People may view it as an over crowded cesspit but they also forget that many many Londoners are based in offices and started wfh back in mid Feb.

Yes there have been images of crowded tubes and buses but 1 image doesn’t mean the entire city is crowded in.

Finally, I think I saw that much of the new infections are in care homes, London does have them but probably not as many as other regions.

Oaktree55 · 15/05/2020 11:36

If you’ve honestly read that University of Manchester report and can’t see it’s only fit for the bin then wasting my breath in trying to have an intelligent conversation. The Government already have their antibody survey back (which mathematically gives a pretty accurate pic of how many have had this). It’s about 4% nationally and around 10% in London.

Devlesko · 15/05/2020 11:37

Think OP, been sniffing glue.

Fluffybutter · 15/05/2020 11:37

So many “scientists” on these threads..
shouldn’t you be helping out with research rather than spouting your doom and gloom on a little social media platform if you’re so much more intelligent than us mere mortals??
London was ahead of the curve , we all knew that so it stands to reason that it would be one of the first areas to reduce the R rate dramatically .
That’s all we need to know at present .
Now fuck off and stop trying to belittle those who are trying to see a little light at the end of the long ,depressing tunnel .

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/05/2020 11:38

If you’ve honestly read that University of Manchester report and can’t see it’s only fit for the bin then wasting my breath in trying to have an intelligent conversation

Ok. I bow down to your superior intelligence. Now I’m going back to bed, because if we’re all doomed there’s nothing really to live for, is there?

Bollss · 15/05/2020 11:41

Oh @Devlesko bore off.

Why don't you start your own thread about how were all doomed to certain death and life will never be the same again??

countrygirl99 · 15/05/2020 11:45

I haven't read the report but I have long been aware that there is frequently a massive difference between how a scientific report is reported in the media and what it actually says. The broadsheets are as bad as the tabloids in that respect. Hence my scepticism.
And as for the people saying that those of us who are sceptical want gloom and despondency - bollocks is all I can say.

itsaweddingone · 15/05/2020 11:45

If only you were in charge @Oaktree55 then you could have saved us from all of this, given that you know more than the government and scientists.

It's a crime that someone with your intelligence can only use an anonymous internet forums to share your words.

cathyandclare · 15/05/2020 11:46

It’s about 4% nationally and around 10% in London.

These antibody tests were from 2+ weeks ago and it can take around 3 weeks to develop antibodies so there will be a significant increase since the sampling was done. Also I think they are modelling on the basis that some people don't develop antibodies because they fight off the virus with t-cells etc.

It's not a perfect paper- but it is peer reviewed, which is unusual for lots of early CV papers.

Quartz2208 · 15/05/2020 11:46

I thought it was the medical research council out of the university of cambridge

Quartz2208 · 15/05/2020 11:48

Oh there are two the wiped out in London is the Mrs. Bio stats unit out of Cambridge

Manchester say 25%

Indiemeg · 15/05/2020 11:48

I know it’s being reported but I find it hard to believe.I don’t think anybody really knows how many have or have had Covid because I suspect most people would be quietly dealing with it at home and not need medical help.

MGMidget · 15/05/2020 11:48

It is very optimistic, probably designed to lift people’s spirit after the last few weeks of lockdown. Living in London , I do think there is little sign of it around now whereas a few weeks ago many people were self isolating with the big C type symptoms in one or more household members. However, the experience of other countries has shown that returning residents cause a second wave and there will be quite a few Londoners currently holed up in their second homes or staying with relatives outside of London. As they left London to escape CV and enjoy a better quality of life during lockdown they will start coming back when London is regarded as ‘virus free’ and businesses and schools are reopening. Some will bring the virus back with them from areas where the virus may still be more prevalent or not even reached its peak yet.

Floofsquidge · 15/05/2020 11:48

You do know the M25 isn't a wall, or even a Bad Omens ring of fire, right?

Devlesko · 15/05/2020 11:49

Gene

You think London will be free from virus within a month... right.
I see there's several sniffing the stuff today, or just plain stupidity Grin
