Can I ask those who are walking what do you see on your everday walk?

I live by the sea. I'm lucky enough to have lovely walks on clifftops or through a forest. Local people are really appreciating this now. I always have as moved from a large town to here.

Are you walking more? Have you found any new places locally?

I'm a long distance walker but haven't been on any mega hikes yet. Feelna bit cautious to be honest.

I walk at least ten miles a day. Beautiful coast, woods, lanes etc. I vary my walks and go through fields. I have found a wealth of things from dry riverbed, to bridges, to wells to old water pumps. Its wonderful.

I live on an Army camp. I see soldiers and military vehicles. Rabbits, squirrels, loads of different birds. I saw the trees in full blossom. The odd person out for a walk or jog.

I am very lucky that a small woodland area which is just on my doorstep has recently had work done to put proper footpaths and things through after being overgrown and unusable for many years so I am enjoying exploring along the river on the new paths that many people haven’t discovered yet

It depends where I go. I live on the coast so today we drove to the local beach and went along the harbour and down the beach and back.

Yesterday I went up the local woods and around the back roads near there - lots of fields with lambs and calfs, some horses in huge paddocks, wild garlic and some amazing views.

We go all sorts of places - I have 3-4 beaches I can get to easily, plus the woods, some open fields and a couple of nature reserves too. It's great and I don't normally see many people, just some fellow dog walkers and the occasional jogger.

Roe deer, grey partridge, pheasants and more recently Red Kites - they are so noisy, you hear them before you see them!

Also my dogs trying to flatten each other, they are full of the joys of Spring just now.

We've discovered a new path at the back of our village - despite living here for 14 years!

Walking from my house I see mountains, fields, woods, bluebells and other wildflowers, a river (very low water at the mo), cows and calves and lots and lots of sheep and lambs. The sun is shining, the scenery is fantastic and it's very quiet.

incognitomum · 14/05/2020 11:57

Yes I forgot about the wildlife. I've seen some lovely baby rabbits. There's s local guy who goes out early morning and gets some amazing photos. He sees a fox a fair amount. We're getting to see his photos on a local Facebook page. Birds I didn't know we had locally.

My dog is 13 but is revived as he's getting walked by ds2 a fair bit too. It's definitely done him good.

I live on a military base too. I see the sea, rabbits, birds, soldiers. Random old abandoned buildings.

Justmuddlingalong · 14/05/2020 12:02

We live on the coast too. We've been lucky enough most days to see the seals sunning themselves on the rocks and the herons paddling in the rock pools.

Hilda40 · 14/05/2020 12:02

Skies of blue, red rose's too.....

YouTheCat · 14/05/2020 12:03

I'm in a city but have a lovely park close by. We only go walking there if the weather is bad as otherwise it is very busy. There's a burn running through and loads of birds to see. Usually we do a circuit round the houses, past the million pound ones across the road to see how the other half live. Grin

City centre here so mainly just buildings, but some are beautiful. Also the river, nearby public gardens, and old docks. I miss the countryside but can really appreciate the architecture in the city with so few people about

CockCarousel · 14/05/2020 12:05

Last night I saw a barn owl. I recently saw a jay, a small brown owl and a grass snake sunning itself on a log. And tadpoles in the pond. I get so excited about the wildlife I see on our walks. Sadly no hedgehogs, I've never seen any in the area I live.

I walk round a couple blocks. People are doing up their front areas all over, putting in new plants, scrubbing, painting. Often stop for a wee chat, leaning over a parked car so we're well distanced. Cats and squirrels are around and sometimes foxes who are sulking over the closure of the chicken shops.

Some beautiful peonies, camellias, wisteria, and lots of wonderful rose bushes.

I wander up to a park with a small forest and gardens, if I have time, but I like keeping an eye out for neighbours and they can be reassured I'm OK.

incognitomum · 14/05/2020 12:10

Thanks for the photos. I took some this morning very outing though. Just nice to look at when we're stuck in.

The other day I saw this.

At work we take our guys (adults with LD) out for a walk around quieter areas most days.

Took a photo of this. At girst I thought I was hallucinating...

I live in London - recent highlights include many police officers and a dead fox Envy

incognitomum · 14/05/2020 12:12

I have a town park 2 minutes walk from my house. My usual walk takes me through a small wooded area, down to the river. I then either walk along the river before looping back to walk back through the wooded area, or make it into a wider circuit by walking round a small lake as well. This was a favourite even before lockdown, but now it's now a regular wind down walk at the end of the day.

I hear lots of bird song, and there are some bird hides (not the enclosed type so still open) where you can see water birds on the lake. There are a few wild flowers but most of the route is grass, trees and bushes.

I'm fortunate to live near open space (even though it is crossed by roads and there is the constant - if now reduced - buzz of traffic).

I've been amazed how many posts there have been on local social media from people who've lived here for years and didn't realise they had a river almost on their doorstep. I think it does go to show how many people just get in cars and don't notice what is around them. Hopefully a positive that has come from people walking more!

AfterSchoolWorry · 14/05/2020 12:15

Horses, ponies, birds, butterflies, insects! Trees, flowers! We are quite lucky!

umberellaonesie · 14/05/2020 12:15

River, bridges, Ducks, swans, dog walkers, cyclists, amazing views.

actiongirl1978 · 14/05/2020 12:16

I see a chalk stream river, usually swans, trees blossom etc.usually a handful of deer, pheasants, occasionally a shy fox, a pub by the river. And my mad labrador chasing all of the creatures above.
