Can I ask those who are walking what do you see on your everday walk?

I live by the sea. I'm lucky enough to have lovely walks on clifftops or through a forest. Local people are really appreciating this now. I always have as moved from a large town to here.

Are you walking more? Have you found any new places locally?

I'm a long distance walker but haven't been on any mega hikes yet. Feelna bit cautious to be honest.

@RedskyAtnight I know it's amazing how many locals are finding our beauty spots. We have a beautiful dene nearby that goes for miles.

Fields, streams, wodds. Deer, birds.

misskatamari · 14/05/2020 12:16

We mostly walk round the block. Oh how i cannot wait to be able to walk by a beach or in the countryside again! We try and look for pretty flowers on our walks, and there have been lots of gorgeous ones coming up these past few weeks.

AfterSchoolWorry · 14/05/2020 12:17

Oh yes, forgot now we can go 5km. We can go to the local beach, we see boats swimmers, walkers and kite surfers!

Fallsballs · 14/05/2020 12:17

I live in between the sea side and a forest type place with lots of houses in between and I have never seen so many shiny clean cars in immaculate driveways, neat gardens with the smell of Jeyes fluid and bleach wafting in the breeze.

incognitomum · 14/05/2020 12:17

@misskatamari isn't there one you can drive to that's not touristy?

My walk this morning. I normally go to the beach but went here today instead and I’m really glad I did

Aebj that is so lovely.

We are in a small village and can walk into the woods or down by the river. We are seeing many more birds than usual. Often see a heron or two by the river, but that is not unusual for us. We have been seeing a lot of rabbits in the evenings too.

incognitomum · 14/05/2020 12:24

@Aebj how beautiful. I had to get up before dawn to see dolphins last year. I was holidaying in Majorca

Had to change our usual walks due to parks closed and certain areas being off limits due to people flocking there when in normal times its a quiet walk in forest. Have got beaches but not been as not sure how busy they'd be.

So we now do a short circular walk, we see traffic going along the motorway, horses in their fields, rainbows on people's windows, some lovely front gardens.

Totally different from our normal walks but these are strange times so we go with the flow.

Greenwich Park and the river every day

I see mountains, lakes, rivers and streams, bridges, leaping lambs, birds of prey. Lots of sky. It’s been magical.

megletthesecond · 14/05/2020 12:34

We're in a large town and I'm a regular walker. However I have spotted herons nesting in the park and we found a crystal clear stream for paddling in the common land on the edge of town.

Ironmanrocks · 14/05/2020 12:36

We live on the edge of a bluebell wood - it is lovely and smells amazing. We often see deer, hare, rabbits, lots of birdlife like woodpecker/nuthatch/pheasant/wren/bullfinch plus the usuals. Frogs and toads near the pond bit. Occasionally other dog walkers, jackdaws and ravens. Newts at night, along with badger and fox if we are lucky. We more see the evidence of these at the moment though.

Same walk up to the local nature reserve everyday. But lovely to see the changes kids have placed in the long grass. Watching the flooding fields dry up. Watched a dabchick build a nest and waiting for the eggs to hatch. We live on the edge of a big city but I have always done a lot of urban and non-urban walking with the kids. They can find joy anywhere. We do an hour of home school and then 1.5hrs walking playing. Without it I would be broken.

Eminybob · 14/05/2020 12:37

We have a little duck pond near us and over the weeks we have seen a flock (?) of tiny ducklings grow bigger and bigger.
We walk past fields of horses and sheep. We walk along the canal, see narrow boats, more ducks, geese. Rolling hills. We live right on the edge of a medium sized town and are really lucky with what we have on our doorstep.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 14/05/2020 12:43

An orchards, allotments, community food garden, trees, lots of shops, ponds, ducks, loads of birds, houses people, long queues for bread, cyclists, decorated from windows, chalk hop scotches...

Lochs, sea, islands, distant snowy hills, ruined crofts. Old woods with deer and wildflowers everywhere. I love living where I do.

incognitomum · 14/05/2020 12:45

The locals and dcs have been putting decorated rocks on local walks. Plus on VE day it was a riot of colour around here.

I live in London near a small but important and beautiful nature reserve, which has become an almost daily walk route for me. It has many types of tree and bush and I hear more birds than I see, a massive variety of sounds (I can't identify them; I need bird Shazam!) but I do see lots of robins because they're not at all shy about coming and checking you out as you walk past. I've seen the spring blossoms and masses of may; snowdrops, narcissi/daffodils; bluebells and harebells; roses now. People walking their lovely dogs. People with their kids. The occasional person I know (we stop for a two-metre chat).

I sometimes walk round the residential streets instead and again, there are masses of beautiful roses out now. Plus the jasmine is coming out and the smell is gorgeously overwhelming. I've seen some red and brown wallflowers in a garden, which took me right back to my childhood.

Have also been walking by wetlands/reservoirs/canals and seen coots, moorhens, ducks, all kinds of geese with goslings, swans, herons, cormorants... Oh and the swallows (or swifts?) are here.

Considering I live in Zone 2 London I see a LOT of nature. If there's one good thing about all this, it's that I say thank you every day that I live where I do and can easily walk to see all this.

IntermittentParps · 14/05/2020 12:50

Plus the guys who run my favourite little greengrocers, who have been open every day since lockdown, and who are unfailingly kind, courteous and cheerful despite being way too busy and visibly exhausted, and are determined to continue because, I quote, 'It's our community.' They're the best kind of people.

My dh is at work still during the week so we tend to do our walk early evening (1yr and 4yr old) usually a circular route around the local streets which means we see mainly cars and houses the one advantage is that some of those houses contain my ils so we get to have a chat or a wave from the end of the drive. My sils exh lives in my road so when he has our dneices they can give us a wave from the doorway and pils live a few streets away so we walk by theirs about once a week. Real life family beats seaview Grin

I live in a rural area, so this is what I see
