Can I ask those who are walking what do you see on your everday walk?

I live by the sea. I'm lucky enough to have lovely walks on clifftops or through a forest. Local people are really appreciating this now. I always have as moved from a large town to here.

Are you walking more? Have you found any new places locally?

I'm a long distance walker but haven't been on any mega hikes yet. Feelna bit cautious to be honest.

Beautiful woodland filled with squirrels and birds. Also spotted some wild violets that I had never seen before.

Spoilt for choice here with hills, river, old railway track (now bike route) and canal. I’m looking out for the otters seen on the river but I’ve not been lucky. I’m mostly walking on the canal early morning. It’s beautiful up there and I’m usually the only one there. I see beautiful woods and gardens backing on to the canal. Beautiful green reflections in the water. I see ducklings, fish, woodpeckers, jays, Squirrels, canal boats, bridges, bluebells. I already knew I was lucky to live in such a lovely place, I love my green spaces.

A field of Rheas which are a bit like Emus. But not emus.
No idea if they are pets or livestock!

We live near a disused railway line that is now used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Unfortunately it is getting so busy we have had the mounted police out.

I am walking every day with the dog and our 3yr old and 6 month old fosterlings. We have covered 22 miles since the start of the month which is pretty good going as the 3 year old was unaccustomed to walking when she joined us, she'd spent a lot of time in a buggy. Someone has been leaving Story Stones in our local wood and she is soooo excited to find them

Lovely thread.

We live in a city in the South West and are very lucky to have a country park over the road from our flat. We go walking there at least 4 mornings a week before my work (from home) day begins and it always puts me in a positive frame of mind. We always see lots of birds and squirrels, plus a few people walking their dogs who always smile and say hello.

I’ve really appreciated our garden too; the roses are just starting to bloom and we had the most beautiful apple blossom in April.

I love those story stones @bloodywhitecat. Ds2 (19) is going to do some stones to put on our walks. That's a great idea. Makes a change from rainbows.

People are doing painted stones where we live as well.

I live in the middle of nowhere. I see the sea and cliffs when I leave the house. There are windmills and boats out to sea. I head uphill the lane passing various neighbours houses. The lane as a lot of wildflowers. At the top of the hill I pass a lake. There are horses, sheep with lambs and cows. In the neighbouring fields. There is a track across the fields leading to an ancient monument. If your lucky you may catch site of a deer. I head off the trail at the monument and explore the wilderness. Few visitors go past the main trail. There are no buildings now for miles. There is a small stream with a bird of prey nest overhead. It's on the edge of a marshland. Surrounded by rocky hills. The hills create a lovely sun trap. I often see newts. There are butterflys everywhere. To the north is a valley leading to three standing stones. To the south a hill leading to a an ancient burial cairn.

I haven't been for a few days. There are currently cows in first field. I'm scared of the cows.

I saw some real life drug dealing taking place on my walk yesterday (complicated fist bumps that exchanged little plastic bags of white stuff and money). Shock. London in case you hadn’t guessed.

Honeybee85 · 14/05/2020 14:36

We go for a walk past the river near our home. We pass cherry blossom trees (last month in full bloom), a small hill with a bamboo forrest and the river is very clear, we see giant carps all the time!

JustOneSquareofDarkChocolate Drug dealers frequent the skate park in the nearest "naice" market town. It isn't just happening in London.

We live on the cliffs so we see the cliffs and the sea and if we walk away from the coast we are walking on a golf course.

We walk around our garden as it's big, and love seeing increasing numbers of butterflies, birds building nests, the odd stoat, badger or deer, and seeing the trees and hedges blossoming. Hawthorn in particular, my favourite.

feelingverylazytoday · 14/05/2020 14:50

Lots of Canada geese and their babies, swans still on the nest, ducks and ducklings, carp in the lake, a few anglers since yesterday, people walking their dogs, people walking, houses, cars, shops, trees.

Trumpton · 14/05/2020 14:51

I found a lovely walk through a fairy tale glen yesterday . I took photos of white fluffy things on my solitary walk .

I used to walk about a fair amount locally anyway and we're very lucky to be on the edge of an area known for its scenery. DH and I are walking more together (as he's working from home). I helped him discover lots of roads he's never been down and we've had a good luck of the houses (stylewise) as we've walked past. If we've walked up our local hill, we've gone off the beaten track and investigated where fields take us (found some new walks which we'll certainly do again). It's been lovely, a change of scenery, lots of different wild flowers. We came across a flock of sheep recently, no sign on black on parents coats, but all the lambs were literally black - a lovely unusual sight.

Whether it's been a local walk around the block or up the hill, I've certainly been noticing plants and flowers a lot more, really making the most of seeing something really nice.

Not sure if it's because there's less traffic, but I saw a couple of bats flying around the other evening at around 7pm. We often see them around 9pm in the summer, usual to see them in daylight.

Thisseatisnotavailable · 14/05/2020 14:53

We saw a seal in the Thames the other day. Swans, geese, coots and moorhens have all had babies.

I've had some lovely walks around the city without hoards of tourists, unfortunately I can't go very far because there's nowhere to stop for a wee because everywhere is obviously closed, and you can't really hide behind a bush in London.

Depending which way we go we see fields, golf courses, lovely houses, my mum, friends of DD's, the canal, ducks, swans. We feel very lucky to live in th outskirts of our town with easy access to beautiful countryside.
