To keep my "thin" clothes or accept that I'll never wear my Levi's again?

Hi all. I used to weigh 10st a few years ago after successfully slimming down from 16st. I'm 5ft8. Over the last year through working, life etc I've gained 3st back. I've been sorting through my wardrobe over the last few weeks and came across my "thin clothes". Once I'd slimmed down, I bought lots of designer jeans such as Levi's, Diesel and 7 For All Mankind in a 28 waist. I recently tried them on and I cant get them past my thighs. I absoloutely love my Levi's 501 and I don't want to part with them or any of my "thin clothes".

I love eating and would love some advice on whether to keep or bin/sell my thin clothes. I did calorie counting to lose the weight last time, but I can't seem to get motivated. Also, once I lose the weight, how do I make sure I don't gain it back? Do any of you weigh regular? If your jeans get tight, do you cut back until they fit?

As its lockdown, I want to try and slim back down. Any help, tips or ideas are welcome. Thanks

@RingaRosie great to see you are a Levi's owner. I love my 501's and my 7 For All Mankind Jeans. I bought clothes that wouldn't really date. Shame I gained weight back. Thanks for contributing :)

I've counted and I've got 3 pairs of Levi's, 2 pairs of 7 For All Mankind and 1 pair of Diesel. I've also come across some True Religion's but I don't ever remember buying/wearing them.

I got rid of all my ‘thin’ clothes and I’m now regretting it.

This time last year I was size 18/20 (the biggest I have ever been - piled on the weight after bereavements and other stresses). I have lost 3 1/2 stone and a size 14.

I tried eating healthy for a while, but after a while the weight stalled.

These are the things that made the biggest difference. I stopped drinking alcohol in August. I drink more water with the occasional diet drink. Low Carb / High Fat diet with the occasional cheat, and intermittent fasting 16:8. I also have a Eufy digital scale that links up to an app. I want to lose another 3 stone, but I am letting myself lose it slowly. As long as the scales are gradually going down, I’m happy. Oh and I set myself short term targets and buy myself something nice when I reach it and then set another target.

@deedeemegadoodoo Well done on the loss. I'm keeping my thin clothes. I just hope I can lose the weight. Obviously if they don't fit me by next year I might sell/donate to charity.

Thanks @lou you can do it! I am the biggest Chocoholic known...could easily eat 1 KILO of Chocolate a day! But it doesn't feel as good as getting into smaller size jeans! YOU can do it!!!

lou967 · 15/05/2020 20:53

@sallievp Armani Jeans are expensive. They are worth slimming into. Any tips? Are you similar height?

sallievp · 15/05/2020 21:01

I'm 5foot 2 🙂 yes expensive but worth it as they push my poor flat sagging bum up a lot!! 😂😂😂 I keep to 1000 kcal per day... I'm sometimes hungry but not too bad... will gradually increase cals now to maintain..there is a lot of good advice on this thread...I'm glad I'm following it 🙂 the main thing for me is it's all in the mind... wether you think you can or think you can't ... you're right! The world is your Oyster!!

lou967 · 15/05/2020 22:55

@sallievp it is all in the mind.

I've attached a pic of the jeans. What do you think of them?

I've hung them up to motivate me. Fingers crossed!!

Please keep your thin clothes!!! I'm keeping my Levis that I bought in 2010 with fitting into them again very much in mind - they are 28" waist

lou967 · 16/05/2020 12:45

@settle59 You can do it! I am keeping mine. I've uploaded a photo of mine above.

lou967 · 16/05/2020 13:31

@Settle59 how far are you from fitting in them?

OP posts:
lou967 · 16/05/2020 22:49

How long would any of you keep your clothes until you admitted defeat that they'd never fit again?

SkinSkin · 16/05/2020 23:53

I kept mine for 10 years and then chucked them at Christmas. Promptly lost a lot of weight and now, for the first time in a decade need that size back.

Is it me or do they just not make clothes like they used to?

lou967 · 16/05/2020 23:57

@SkinSkin clothes these days are made of cheap material.

It's literally only just happened so we're in the maintenance stage yet to be honest

Grandmi · 17/05/2020 00:09

I think it depends on your age. When I was in my late 20s I lost four stone in weight after my first baby quite easily and kept my weight down for two more babies to about 11 stone. I am now in my 50s and my weight has ballooned..am trying to keep active ie dog walking, strenuous job ,but...am definitely struggling and now weigh about 14 stone ..I have chucked away all my size 12 to 16 clothes and will be happy to replace when and if necessary !!

SkinSkin · 17/05/2020 00:17

I think it's more to do with what you eat and drink to be honest. A member of my family is a marathon runner and laments over his increased weight. He runs for miles every day. I decided to just cut out carbs and sugar and cut down portions, seriously cut down booze, and think about whether I am hungry or not really. It took a lot of discomfort and discipline but that didn't 'hurt' for too long, the body adjusts after a few weeks really, and now it's lifestyle. Though having said that I'm conscious we're still in lockdown and when my favourite pubs and restaurants reopen, could be a different story!

lou967 · 17/05/2020 09:40

@SkinSkin I admire your discipline. I need to do the same. I think when places reopen, I may struggle.

lou967 - thanks Lou!! Yes - you'll definitely fit into them again - they are lovely - I'm sure I've got a pair like that. Mine are the men's classic 501 in a 28" waist ! - I've got the light blue pair and then a darker navy blue pair - exactly the same - and another pair of Levi's but a slightly different cut! I'm currently over 2 stone from fitting into them!

Settle59 · 17/05/2020 09:46

I love those jeans lou967 - brand new as well!!

lou967 · 17/05/2020 09:47

@Settle59 Let's get back into our Levi's. Once mine fit, I'm never taking them off. Haha. I need to keep my weight under control.

lou967 · 17/05/2020 09:48

@Settle59 Thanks. I love them too. They weren't cheap.
