To keep my "thin" clothes or accept that I'll never wear my Levi's again?

Hi all. I used to weigh 10st a few years ago after successfully slimming down from 16st. I'm 5ft8. Over the last year through working, life etc I've gained 3st back. I've been sorting through my wardrobe over the last few weeks and came across my "thin clothes". Once I'd slimmed down, I bought lots of designer jeans such as Levi's, Diesel and 7 For All Mankind in a 28 waist. I recently tried them on and I cant get them past my thighs. I absoloutely love my Levi's 501 and I don't want to part with them or any of my "thin clothes".

I love eating and would love some advice on whether to keep or bin/sell my thin clothes. I did calorie counting to lose the weight last time, but I can't seem to get motivated. Also, once I lose the weight, how do I make sure I don't gain it back? Do any of you weigh regular? If your jeans get tight, do you cut back until they fit?

As its lockdown, I want to try and slim back down. Any help, tips or ideas are welcome. Thanks

A couple of years ago, I had to buy new shorts as mine were way to small. Spent my whole holiday being sad as I had major chub rub on my thighs. Ive lost 3 st by going to a slimming club, and tried on my favourite denim short shorts the other day, and they fit me 🙂 a little bit loose actually

You can do it

lou967 · 14/05/2020 21:28

@SlothRunner what an amazing result for you. Well done. I'm not brave enough to go to a slimming club.

I'm in a routine now as it's been over a year that I've been doing OMAD (one meal a day). I find it very easy. A lot of trial and error has taught me I do better being hungry sometimes rather than all the time, which I was when calorie counting.

lou967 · 14/05/2020 21:50

Sounds like you've mastered it @oysterbabe well done!

You should give a slimming club a go, everyone is nice and you are all in the same boat. Also, they will not announce your weight to the whole room which I know some people worry about!

There are a few of us just starting out with 16:8 on the fasting board @lou967. I’ve done it before and got on really well. Getting back on it now I’ve had my last baby & turned 40. Come join us & see how you get on.
Under my bed is a whole wardrobe of gorgeous things that I’m determined to fit into again. 501’s included.

AngeloMysterioso · 14/05/2020 22:24

I got to 11 stone (very big for me) after always hovering around the 9 stone mark when I started taking medication which has a side effect of making you gain weight. I got back down to 10 fairly easily once I stopped taking the meds but it’s only since having a baby, breastfeeding for 6 months and doing a 1/2 marathon that I’ve got back to where I was about 5 years ago. I’m very glad I didn’t throw away all my smaller sized stuff! I think the solution is largely to do with exercise as my diet hasn’t really changed at all I still eat just as much crap now as ever

lou967 · 14/05/2020 22:45

@pandapotato I'll head over and check it out. Its good that we have similar goals. I hate that my 501's don't fit. I love them.

I've left a few special dresses with my mum, they're in her wardrobe. I'm going to have to give her my only pair of jeans too. In your shoes, if I had a loft (I don't) I'd air them properly then fold them all and put them in those Hoover storage bags in the loft, for when I fitted in them again

lou967 · 14/05/2020 23:02

@AngeloMysterioso I should train for a 1/2 marathon or some form of running event. Something for me to keep in mind if I struggle to get back down to 10st.

@9While9AndImWaiting I have lots of room in my wardrobe so storing them is not an issue. I have seen those vacuum bags and they must be a godsend for people who have lots and lots of clothes.

501s are a good shape so I say keep. I have lost two and a half stone and have been sorting out my ‘thin jeans’ they don’t all fit yet but the ones off to the charity shop are all low rise as I realise that regardless of size I won’t wear them.

I don’t think 10st at 5’8 is an unrealistic goal unless you want to be there in a few months, maybe it won’t be until next summer but it can still be a goal.

lou967 · 15/05/2020 08:16

@Lucked Yes 501's are an amazing fit. I am keeping them. I do have some low rise Levi's too. I would like to be 10st by the end of the year... if not at least by next easter.

Thank you to all those who replied. It has motivated me to lose the weight again. I was going to bin/sell the jeans that I own, but not anymore. I will keep you all updated

@lou967 do it! My half marathon ended up being cancelled (like everything else in life) but I ran the distance anyway and felt so proud of myself afterwards! Even doing something like couch 2 5k just to get you back into the swing of things could help. I always find trying to lose weight through changing what or how you eat usually ends up being a waste of time, humans are creatures of habit and we like what we like, so the second you go back to eating “normally” the weight goes straight back on again.

lou967 · 15/05/2020 11:23

@angelomysterioso you are so right. Thats what happened to me. I cut down and enjoyed being slim. But after a while I gave up and went back to eating lots. Its a mental game weight loss. I have seen couch to 5k. I am going for a walk today and hopefully as I feel fitter I may start running. 501's I am coming for you!

@SlothRunner maybe when everywhere reopens I may have a look into it.

Good luck OP!
I haven't read the full thread but I weigh myself every day and sometimes different times. I find it really interesting to know my own body and how different times of the day or month show up on the scales!i think for women it's difficult to maintain the same weight everyday, esp at my age.
I also have a weight that I will NOT go over. I know when I'm nearing that weight that's its time to cut back on the portions, treats and exercise more!

lou967 · 15/05/2020 16:05

@Cuddling57 thank you for your words of encouragement. Its good that you keep your weight under control. I need discipline to maintain once I've lost the weight!!

I hate those decluttering books that say re. wardrobe, oh if you haven’t worn it in a year give it away! Always hold on to the good stuff, within reason (there comes a time to move on style-wise, but not quality-wise).

lou967 · 15/05/2020 16:14

@RingaRosie I am only keeping the jeans as they are only 12-18months old. Plus, I barely worn them. I do agree that sometimes I do need to move on but they are still in style

OP posts:
KingSheathBelle · 15/05/2020 16:15

Get thin now to wear them before the peri menopause and menopause hits as it is nigh on impossible afterwards!

I'd suggest- weights , time restricted eating (this has actually worked for me over lockdown by accident) and I'm reading this:

fast exercise

lou967 · 15/05/2020 16:17

@KingSheathBelle I'm working on it. I'm hoping that I can get the weight off ASAP and to maintain. I'm doing 1200 calories a day, no snacks and ensuring I go for a walk.

OP posts:
RingaRosie · 15/05/2020 16:21

Most good things stay in style, especially classics like Levi’s. I still have all of mine, and my denim jacket. It’s harder to get good stuff these days, as well. Best of luck!
