Hopefully a bit of an uplifting thread where we can focus on the positives among the many negatives.

I've managed to learn how to do a handstand! I've never in my life been able to do one, even as a child but I can now after many many fails.

Anyone else managed to achieve anything? Small or big

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 13/05/2020 22:23

These are all fantastic and inspirational actually. Thank you OP for starting such a great thread!

I've upcycled, crocheted, gardened, decorated and generally taken stock over the last however many weeks we've done!

As to losing weight, that seems to be a losing battle! I'm almost getting a bit worried that I might not have enough time to at least get back to where I was, before I've got to go back to work! Grin

LunaHardy · 13/05/2020 22:26

Potty trained DD Grin lots of other things but that feels like our biggest achievement

Msfoxy17 · 13/05/2020 22:30

Most uplifting thread I've read for a while...
Mine -
Finally got into an exercise regime with 3-4 weekly workouts plus couple of yoga sessions.
Started a veg patch - not v successful so far still hopefully will see some success soon.
Load of walks in local Area and finally getting familiar with lie of the land. Also taught my daughter lots about nature, wildflowers etc.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 13/05/2020 22:37

I’m midway through week 6 of couch to 5k.

I started a new job and haven’t been sacked yet.

DP and I redecorated DS’ bedroom over the weekend.

I finished my degree after 6 long, long years, 1 of which was with an abusive H, and 4 of which were going through a divorce and/or as a single parent. This year’s been a doddle in comparison.

I’ve made and eaten, as my hips can attest a lot of bread using a bread maker .

GeraltOfRivia · 13/05/2020 22:42

I made a very successful chocolate soufflé for the first time

Spamellahamella · 13/05/2020 22:43

I've got my best ever tan. Ive read a lot. I've done our family tree, watched every series of line of duty and I've sorted out the filing cabinet and shredded 3 bin bags worth of old paperwork.
I definitely could have done more but with dog walking, home schooling, quiz writing and keeping us all fed, the days have fair zoomed by. I always knew I'd never be bored if I wasn't working and it is definitely so.

LynetteScavo · 13/05/2020 22:43

I've achieved very little. I'm now panic painting skirting boards and doors to feel like I actually achieved something.

Chillipeanuts · 13/05/2020 22:44

5 of us, 3 generations, soon to be 4, not a single row.

ClosedTheBlueEyes · 13/05/2020 23:02

I've baked cakes, read books, put on a stone, cut back on drinking, gone from smoking to vaping, started online yoga once a week, stopped baking, and have lost only a single poxy pound in the last 3 weeks Angry

Oh well, must keep trying Smile

Goingunderground2 · 13/05/2020 23:03

Taken on an allotment, with two young children and normally working full time we have had the time to get one dug and prepared. Which we would never have got sorted due to how run down it was before

Pinkyponker · 13/05/2020 23:05

Taught my 4 year old to ride without stabilisers and got my three year old to go to bed happily after kisses and cuddles without having to lie with her for over an hour!
Also got her walking 3 miles whereas before she would walk for less than 5 minutes and ask to be carried.

Just realised these aren't really achievements for myself.... I've managed up keep my house plants alive for once and grown some seedlings outside too.
Being home everyday has given me time to remember to water them Smile

flabbyflabbyflabguts · 13/05/2020 23:08

Run every day, a HIIT workout every day, yoga every day, can now do 30 push-ups in one rep
Managed to stick to a regular timetable.

FunnysInLaJardin · 13/05/2020 23:11

I now bake all of my own bread for a house of 4 and have also discovered that henna is miles better than a salon dye job!

ShinyMe · 13/05/2020 23:17

@NoHardSell I'm with you. I've achieved nothing tangible. Lots and lots of work that's been harder and less productive than usual. I did buy some sparkly glitter Doc Marten sandals, but have nowhere to wear them yet.
I've had zero energy for yoga, baking, fitness, cooking or learning Japanese. I've filled the glass recycling twice as quickly as usual though.

altiara · 13/05/2020 23:29

Painted living room and rearranged furniture to make it nicer now husband has moved out.
Learnt how to make flat pack furniture (sort of)
Discovered DD (13y) is an absolute star when it comes to making flat pack furniture.
Read on here about learning the names of all the countries in the world using a jetpunk.com quiz. Couldn’t even get to half in the time limit when I first tried it and now managed the full 196!
Became addicted to learning names of all the countries in the world and now the rest of the house looks like we’ve been burgled as I am trying to sort out every bloody room in the house (and it’s a big house) and now prefer to eat chocolate in the one nice room.

CakeCakeCake21 · 13/05/2020 23:33

I did lose some weight but then put it all back on. I have learned some Russian, read some books (but not all the books I want to read) and discovered lots of things about my local area that I didn’t know (eg some blue plaques on nearby houses, lakes and ponds I didn’t know about within 20 mins walk etc). I have also spoken to friends way more than ever before except when I was basically living with them.

Youcunnyfunt · 13/05/2020 23:35

Completed a whole series of ps tutorials, plus a few futurelearning modules.
A few CBT modules. Learning to chill the fuck out (still in progress).
Read a lot of nonfiction books on my bookshelves (gardening, art and cookery).
Failed some herbs, succeeded with other plants. Learnt how to care for my lawn.
Learnt how to saw and use a drill properly. Got more confident with DIY. Learnt how to use sealant. Learnt how to plumb a sink. Painted outside render. Got a bit better at wallpaper stripping and prepping walls for plaster.
Constructed a pallet sofa. Restored six pieces of furniture.
Currently learning how to plan a garden (design).
Got to level 10.5 on a modified bleep test (because I’m unfit we’ve started on a shorter length but I’m happy with that, because it’s hard!!).

Pretty happy to just chill out for a while now...

AdaColeman · 13/05/2020 23:37

I’m enjoying learning Latin with an on line course.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 13/05/2020 23:38

Have done Joe Wicks workout every weekday morning of lockdown. Longest I've stuck at an exercise routine in adulthood and I feel better for it.

Have started learning Italian from some Linguaphone CDs we found while clearing out the loft at the start of lockdown to try to make space for DH to have an office area.

Done some work towards my Grade 8 piano (was working on this before lockdown) but having to do so much to help the kids with schoolwork I'm not finding much time to practise at all.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 13/05/2020 23:39

Loads of spring walks
For the first time in a while I have actually had spring
But most importantly have my mental health and that if my kids on an even keel after a horrific split with their dad late 2020
Lots of gardening

torthecatlady · 13/05/2020 23:46

Assembled new Ikea dining table (bought 2 days before lockdown).

Lots of cleaning and decluttering (our guest room is completely full of stuff to go to charity shops).

Mowed the lawn 3 times. Still have lots of weeding to do.

Sanded down and painted railings in front garden (already had the paint in the cupboard as I'd been putting of the job for quite some time).

Painted an old piece of furniture with leftover chalk paint from ndn.

Lots of cooking, baking and eating. So much so that I have rejoined weightwatchers.

Sold a box of CDs and DVDs on ziffit and music magpie which was gathering dust as I never had the time to do it whilst working.

Still to do... Finish painting the bathroom and clean grouting. Weeding. Read all the books I've started and not had time to read! More decluttering.

AngeloMysterioso · 14/05/2020 00:09

During lockdown I have...

Run my first half marathon. Alone. In the rain and hail. Less than 5 months after giving birth to my first baby. And raised over £500 for charity.

Taken on an allotment plot and rescued the apple tree that was totally choked up with overgrown brambles. Also single handedly dismantled the dilapidated remains of a greenhouse the previous plot holder had left there.

Taken an hour and a half out of my day to walk a stranger’s dog for them every morning.

Lost about 2kgs weight without even trying (although could probably be attributed to all the above).

Kept our home reasonably clean and tidy (no small feat- I am by nature extremely messy).

Kitted out DS’s nursery almost entirely with free stuff found online including an amazing glider chair.

Kept baby DS alive!

grey12 · 14/05/2020 00:38

Nothing!!!

Pregnant with 2 small kids watching too much tv.....

Sometimes get jealous of what other people are managing to do... Sad

Goggle1968 · 14/05/2020 00:54

Lost 2 stone, couch to 5k (on last week), got my 5yo sleeping in her own bed all night, decluttered. I still need to do the kitchen crap drawer but can’t face it!
Need to read more though.

LightenUpSummer · 14/05/2020 07:31

All those whose lives have been harder than usual during lockdown deserve a medal too Star
