He's 10. Does not want to do it. Am wondering why they are doing this and whether it has anything to do with schools opening or not?! Would I be unreasonable to refuse this opportunity?

So then we shouldn’t get our kids vaccinated as that’s an unnecessary medical procedure that can cause stress and fear of needles

Vaccination is necessary
Being part of research isnt
NO one is under any obligation to be part of research if they dont want to

Oh and just so people know, restraining kids can do nothing but make a fear 1000x worse. Im living proof
As a kid (7yo), i had a dr leave a syringe in my ass for tonsillitis medication, while he took a phone call. He held it in place, reached over to phone and answered it. My father did NOTHING.
From that day i had a fear. Had nightmares, cried a lot over even the mere sight of a syringe, even a basic medicine one with no needle.
My parents called me a silly child, told me to get over it or they would restrain me.
When they told me the routine vaccination was due and i freaked out, like full flipped out.
It turned to a full blown, no return phobia when my parents, a gp and his wife all held me down to give me routine vaccination at 10. I fought so hard to free myself when i did swing an arm free i broke the gp nose.

Since that day ive never had another needle, they didnt even take blood from me in pregnancy as it was deemed unsafe.
DP has to take DD to get hers, i physically cant do it

Good. I hope he learnt from it.

What we need is to educate. Holding patients down does the opposite.

My son has got the letter this morning. He's 13, doesn't want to do it. He's a wimp, in his own words. Doesn't fancy the swab down his throat, up his nose. Can't say I blame him! Tried explaining he'll bebaying an important role in all this, it's scientific research etc, but nah, he's not buying it. Bit gutted tbh, but I can't force him!

@lotusbell
My DC received his letter this morning but I have a slight problem with it. Is it really random? Because my DC who has been picked 'randomly' is the only 1 of my 4 DC that has a significant health condition. The suspicious side of me thinks it's more than a coincidence.

Everyone else's DC who were chosen, are your DC all healthy with no underlying health problems?

Please respect your child’s wishes. If he is old enough to help the country for the greater good, he is old enough to say no and have his decision respected.

We had a letter about that study, we thought about it because of the £50 but decided against it because they come to your house to do it.

@NotAnotherNewUsername, apologies, I could've sworn I replied. My son has no health issues, so I'd say random.x

Oh that's good to hear.
