Dita73
I know what you mean.
It's a beautiful made film but my god it head messy.

Rhodri · 13/05/2020 20:45

Another vote for the Before trilogy. I’ve never seen any other films that so succinctly capture love, loss and longing. I’m still not sure what Synedoche, New York was about, but it’s deep and multi layered, definitely one for the thinkers.

Thelnebriati · 13/05/2020 20:47

The Whistleblower. Its about a very bleak subject (sex trafficking and murder by DynCorp employees in Yugoslavia) but its on my 'must watch' list.

Not RTFT and maybe not profound, but spine tingly:

Thelma and Louise
Bridges of Madison County

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 13/05/2020 20:52

Oh, and The Croods. Lots about anxiety and taking risks in life

endofthelinefinally · 13/05/2020 20:53

The Killing Fields.
The Cave
Both true stories and made with extreme attention to detail and historical fact.
Both include cast members who experienced what actually happened.
Extraordinary stories of bravery and heroism by ordinary people.

endofthelinefinally · 13/05/2020 20:58

The man who played Dith Pran went through so much. He was an extraordinarily humble man. He wasn't even an actor. He was asked to play the role because he had endured the killing fields and watched his wife die in childbirth. He was a doctor.
He moved to USA after the film was released.
Then he was killed on his own doorstep for ten dollars.

A room with a view
Big fish
Brokeback mountain

All of them left me with that sense of yearning for an alternate ending

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 13/05/2020 21:01

@Gepetto
Philadelphia is a good shout. The track of the same name (from in the film) is quite haunting but beautiful piece of music.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 13/05/2020 21:02

@Chopbob do you mean alternate ending for your life or in the film?

Enjoying this thread Smile

Gwenhwyfar · 13/05/2020 21:07

Code 46.

I love Educating Rita, but I wouldn't say it's profound :)

EffOrf · 13/05/2020 21:08

Life itself

Tsubasa1 · 13/05/2020 21:09

I like The Hours, when Virginia Wolf walks into the river. I find it so moving.

Gwenhwyfar · 13/05/2020 21:09

"The Magdelene sisters"

I disagree slightly there. If you read about what those places were really like, they could have done something much, much more subtle that would have had a stronger impact.

Livelovebehappy · 13/05/2020 21:10

Angela’s Ashes. So sad, and an insight into what real poverty is.

Tsubasa1 · 13/05/2020 21:12

Also The Pianist, my neighbour totoro, disney's the hunchback of notre dame, Anastsia.

Bawdrip · 13/05/2020 21:16

Dancer in the Dark. I sobbed for hours

Ilovethekittehs · 13/05/2020 21:19

Requim for a dream

AllsortsofAwkward · 13/05/2020 21:23

12 years a Slave

AllsortsofAwkward · 13/05/2020 21:23

Rhodri · 13/05/2020 21:29

Bawdrip Dancer in the Dark is amazing, at the end I was literally shell shocked.

Auntlouisa · 13/05/2020 21:31

Last Night - about the last night before the end of the world.
Happiness. Portrays sad lives, including a paedophile.

FrankiesKnuckle · 13/05/2020 21:33

Profound is subjective, no?

For me -

Muriels Wedding
Mr Holland's opus
Inside I'm dancing
Dead mans shoes
The Truman show.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 13/05/2020 21:35

Captains Courageous
Imitation of Life
Madam X
Lawrence of Arabia (killed the bloody horse didn't they!)😧
Gorillas in the Mist
