Is 28 young?

I turn 28 next week and it made me think that 30 isn't that far away. Would you class 28 as "young"? I'm not married yet, still single infact. I thought my life would look different to how it does.

OP posts:
LouiseTrees · 11/05/2020 22:11

You are still young yes.

isabellerossignol · 11/05/2020 22:11

Yes, it's young.

But honestly, I don't think many people's lives end up looking how they imagine they would. I know mine certainly doesn't, and I'm much older.

But you have loads of time to change your life if you want to.

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/05/2020 22:13

Under 21 is young. Everything else is relative. If you aren’t happy with your life then methodically try to piece out a way to make it better, rather than waste time focussing on your age!

Didntwanttochangemyname · 11/05/2020 22:13

Young to draw a pension, yes.
Young to leave home, no.

Its all a matter of perspective.

Thedogscollar · 11/05/2020 22:13

Oh dear lord you are still very young, at least to me. Still time for marriage and kids if that is your plan. Time flies enjoy your youth please don't wish it away.

ImDillDandin · 11/05/2020 22:14

Well I'm 57 and don't class myself as old, so yes, 28 is very young to me!

Whatsername177 · 11/05/2020 22:14

Yes. I'm 37 next week and it is starting to dawn on me that I'm not young anymore. At 28 I was young.

Washyourhandsyoufilthyanimal · 11/05/2020 22:14

Very very young. Im not much older than you married with kids and I still feel as if I have my whole life ahead of me. There is no right age to do things you still have so much time! It’s an exciting thought! Think about all the fun to come.

Apolloanddaphne · 11/05/2020 22:15

Yes. It is still very young. My DD is 27. Surely she is still young? If not what does that make me??

Connie222 · 11/05/2020 22:15

At 28 I thought I was old. I didn’t do a few things in life then because I was ‘too old’ to do them.

I’m 40 now and I wish I could go back in time and slap young, stupid me.

DieSchottin93 · 11/05/2020 22:16

I'm a year younger than you OP. I thought by now I'd be settled into a good job, in a steady relationship and living away from home. None of these things have happened so far Sad Sad Grin

LudaMusser · 11/05/2020 22:16

Ask an eighteen year old if twenty eight is young and they'll call you a dinosaur. A fifty year old for example would say that you're still young. It's all relative

HTH

Simonfromharlow · 11/05/2020 22:16

Yes!!!

StripeyLurcher · 11/05/2020 22:18

28 is a good age. Old enough to have some sense, but young enough to do most things you might want to.

KeepWashingThoseHands · 11/05/2020 22:19

Only a 28 yo would post this.

Yes it's young. Enjoy! Time goes fast.

xSaro · 11/05/2020 22:19

I am 28 in 2 days and I still feel very young. I am actually looking forward to my 30s as I haven't liked my 20s very much and I believe 30 has become the new 21 now. I haven't "achieved" what I thought I would have by now: I am not yet married and have no kids. I do have a boyfriend and we are currently buying our first house, although that is a bit of a sore subject as we have been waiting 11 months since we had our offer accepted to actually have the house due to the vendor being awkward and buying a new build which isn't completed yet and delayed further due to this damn virus! But I digress.....

TippledPink · 11/05/2020 22:20

28 is young, I LOVED turning 30 though! I am now 35 and I feel 35 is now old.

SallyWD · 11/05/2020 22:20

I'm 45 and God yes, 28 is young! When I was 28 I thought I was old but of course I realise now it's young!

BrexpatInSwitzerland · 11/05/2020 22:21

It's all relative.

I'm 38 and at work when sitting in meetings as the only under 40 and among predominantly 50+-year-old fellow executives, I'm practically an infant.

When I'm out on the street scratching my head over what teens these days seem to think is visually appealing, I feel roughly 100.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 11/05/2020 22:22

I’m 26 so no. Grin I feel quite old all of a sudden but I’m aware others will disagree. I’m married and expecting my second DD in September.

KatDubs261 · 11/05/2020 22:23

I am also 28 and feeling ancient Grin tbh I feel older than I am so feel I am growing into myself the older I get.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 11/05/2020 22:23

It’s all relative. As someone who feels “old” at 23, 28 does sound ancient - but that’s mainly because I miss being 18-21 and having a carefree party life. Especially as we’re in lockdown, my grown up life now feels so different to a few years ago. I don’t think 28 is old in the grand scheme of life though. Plenty of time to achieve everything you’ve ever wanted to.

BestZebbie · 11/05/2020 22:24

I don't think you are young. You aren't middle aged or elderly either! But you are just a standard adult at this point.
You still have "time" on a biological clock (presuming average health) to have at least one child and to find a partner from scratch to do this, but not infinite time, so that should probably start becoming a priority if you haven't got anywhere along that route at this point but do want it badly in your future. If you are more ambivalent about biological reproduction, you are still "young" in that you have plenty of time to couple up if desired and to do all the hobby, education and career things that you may wish, unforeseen misfortune permitting.

BeetrootRocks · 11/05/2020 22:25

Yes young, to me.

The first birthday I had where I felt/thought, oh I'm getting on a bit now, was 45.

Feels so weird writing that! 45. Still feel young though Smile

Isawamagpie · 11/05/2020 22:25

28 is so young! I'm almost 33 and wish I had been more youthful in my 20s.
I got married early 20s and had a child. By 30s I was divorced. I wish I had spent my 20s being youthful and carefree.
Please enjoy being 28, and don't worry about life not looking how you thought it might. I thought I had to be married, have kids etc and in reality I should have just waited and let things run it course!

Please please enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. In years to come you'll look back and realise just how young and wonderful you were
