Lockdown sucks, what’s the best CF stories you’ve read?

OP posts:
truthisalie · 25/01/2021 22:02

Her parents hated cats though but she was too tight to pay for a cattery and was insistent.

She took the cat but it got out (or was let out - not sure) and was run over

Poor cat and her parents behaved like twats.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 25/01/2021 22:03

@Staffy1

Who ever volunteered everyone else to pay for her was the CF. The people sitting next to were not. Maybe they couldnt afford it, and were sitting there feeling worried and nervous because someone else volunteered to spend their money for them.
The "its ok" was probably because they'd just had to sit through an awkward silence while everyone started at each other waiting for them to pay up.
Yes, they shouldnt have appeared to take credit but they shouldnt have been put in that position in the first place. Who ever volunteered to split that woman's share could have just paid it themselves and sorted out the payback later.

PyongyangKipperbang · 25/01/2021 22:03

@truthisalie

Not only did they deprive the hard working waitresses of their tip

That's a bit ridiculous. The waitresses are paid by their employer.

Whether you agree with tip giving or not, these people stole money.

It was given by their friends as a gift to the waitress but they stole it to pay their bill.

truthisalie · 25/01/2021 22:06

The tip would have been taken into account when the bill was calculated and split equally. They should have paid their fair share just like everyone else.

I agree that they should have paid their share. I was only referring to that sentence regarding the tips. As long as we give tips the employers will never increase the salary of their waiting staff. These employers are CFs.

Another one. A friend begged me to house sit with her while parents were away. I didn't want to, but went anyway. While there another friend of hers joined us for a bit as she needed somewhere to stay, so I said I would go home, but again was begged to stay. We took it in turns to do groceries. On her night, the food was cheap. On my night, we all went together and added things to the basket. The bill was substantially higher than hers and her friend was about to chip in but she stopped her and left it to me. She also demanded a whack of petrol money, which I found irritating, as I wasn't paying for any at home and she was the one who insisted I stay with her. The last straw was when she went out one night, locked the pantry that contained food that I had mainly bought and hid the key. I don't know why I didn't tell her to get stuffed, I was young and put up with a lot more than I would now.

Myself and my partner have had a few CF moments all stemming from my partner's brother my dbil and ex as neither drive or have any inclination to ever learn.

First instance was at the ex's baby shower, I was young, never been to a shower before so offered my mil a lift to and from. All good.
After the shower the mother to be asked me to help her to the car with the cake/gifts.
Yes sure.
Go to the car park and I slow down to follow her, realise she's just staring at me... I ask which car? Assuming she's booked a taxi
To which she looked puzzled and said 'yours'
I was taken a back and just walked to my car and loaded everything in rather than make an issue. After that I made sure to always pull up people on CF behaviour!

My partner had similar with his brother the following year, a call early on a Saturday morning.
Dbil 'are you free to take myself and gf (at the time) to see a puppy we want to possibly buy at some point today?
Do 'yes sure, I'm free this afternoon shall I pick you up at say 1pm?'
Dbil 'that won't do we need to be there at 11.'
Dp 'so you've already told them you are going? When did you have this booked?'
Dbil 'for a couple of weeks, we don't want to have to bring the dog back on the bus.'
Dp 'sorry forgot im not free today.... Good luck with the puppy.'

Another instance was us all going for a day out to a city for shopping and a meal. We obviously drive and say they were will just split the petrol money/parking costs rather than get the train which takes twice as long for twice as much money.
Great day out, get home
Dp 'call it £15 for your share of the parking/petrol'
Dbil 'no worries, will get it sent over'
Nothing for a couple of days so do asks if he's transferred the money
Dbil 'I assumed we didn't owe that now because you would have gone anyway without us'
We did eventually get their share.

RainbowRaine · 25/01/2021 22:23

I hope he asks your husband to tattoo him and your husband inks "I'm a knob" on his face

Or perhaps just an arm, in really nice curvy, italic writing so it takes a few weeks to actually figure it what it properly says.

HyacynthBucket · 25/01/2021 22:23

I lived in a small cul de sac.My neighbour two doors down was a lovely old lady who died. My next door neighbour, who lived between me and the old lady, had always been quite unfriendly all round. As was the custom in the street if someone died, I went round the houses asking if people would like to sign a card, and most people gave money for flowers at the funeral. The next door neighbour said she was not interested in the flowers. I bought them and they were sent to the funeral on behalf of the neighbours. Later the old lady's daughter told me she had thanked next door neighbour for the flowers and given her a card to thank everyone. We never saw the card, and it turned out neighbour took all the credit for organizing the flowers, even though she was the only one not to contribute. I was too shocked to say anything then, and I never got another chance to enlighten the daughter and her family

AnneElliott · 25/01/2021 22:28

I love these CF threads! I've been selling and giving some stuff on FB recently and my goodness some people are brazen!

One woman told me that she expected first refusal on anything else I had (after being given 2 things for free).

Another one (who I'd given something to for free and delivered it as he said he wasn't able to go out) was most put out when I declined to respond to his comments on another item of mine that he would 'take it if it was free'.

Other people merely commenting 'I'll take it' underneath - err no you won't you CF!

Ilovelblue · 25/01/2021 22:30

Mine are quite minor compared with some of these!

I had a friend from work who was new to gardening and had just moved into a house on her own following her divorce. I am a keen gardener and she asked me if I'd give her a hand to tidy up her back garden. It's a good few years ago now and I can't remember what needed doing but I would have taken my own tools and probably a few spare plants in case there were gaps to fill.

I was on my knees tidying up the border when I realised she was no longer around. She'd got out a sun lounger and said she would "catch a few rays" as she worked full time (as did I) and needed some time to relax! We are still friends of a fashion, but I have never done any work in her garden since that day, though I don't mind supplying a few spare plants here and there.

My other story was when I gave a colleague a lift to work for a number of months as she had been ill and was not allowed to drive. She never once offered petrol money in all those months and if there were occasions when I couldn't bring her home if I wasn't going directly home myself, she used to question why I couldn't. Several colleagues lived in the area and so it's not as if she would be stranded. Sometimes I would want to stop at a nearby supermarket to pick up a few bits of shopping and she would complain that it wasn't a store she liked! It was a massive relief when she was allowed to drive again!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/01/2021 22:34

lucieintheskye I'm kind of hoping you're joking ... if not, you just won the internet Shock

truthisalie · 25/01/2021 22:43

Other people merely commenting 'I'll take it' underneath - err no you won't you CF

There are so many people on FB who just want free stuff. Once I was selling like 5 pairs of children's shoes/loafers in very good or near new condition. Basically I asked a few pounds for the lot. No-one wanted to buy them untill I changed the price to Free.

PeachesPlumsPears · 25/01/2021 22:54

This happened to my friend. CF asked her to make 2 pavlovas and delivered them to her. My friend agreed and told CF that she will make the meringues but asked her friend to buy cream and fruits to decorate it as she was busy. CF refused and insisted that my friend stop at the shops on the way to her house, rudely implying that my friend was lazy/cheap even though CF was not paying for the pavlovas and my friend was going to deliver them to her house (1 hour return trip). They are no longer friends. Big loss for CF as my friend is lovely, very, very generous with a big heart.

feistyoneyouare · 25/01/2021 22:56

An online 'friend' in the USA emailed me out of the blue for the first time in ages just before Prince William's wedding. No 'how've you been?' she just launched straight into how 'special' it would be for her little niece if I could pick her up some royal wedding souvenirs and post them.

I live nowhere touristy, certainly nowhere near any gift shops. Emailed back explaining this nicely, and suggesting she have a look online.

She sent back a very snippy reply about how there is a ton of stuff online, she just thought it would be more special coming from someone English, thanks anyway. And unfriended me.

At no point in this exchange had she shown any interest in how I was or what I'd been doing in the (fairly long) time since we'd last emailed.

That last example does seem quite petty.
cleanasawhistle · 25/01/2021 23:17

A few friends meet up once a week for a cuppa in local cafe.
One lady new to these meets seems so lovely.
In every conversation she sits ,listenens then chimes in ...let me know if you need a hand with that...I am free on that day I will come help...etc etc.
Its usually daft things she offers to help with....one lady was fed up because every night after tea her kids leave the table without offering to wash up....the lady who lives 3 miles away and doesnt even drive says I will come round and help you wash up.

So non of us have ever asked her to help out......we have started to realise after a few weeks every time she speaks its hint, hint hint.
Its like because she has made offers she actually feels like we owe her IYSWIM

ColdCottage · 25/01/2021 23:18

@Likethebattle the same thing happens to me but in Argentina, the waiter pretended not to see me then not to understand me (despite being fine with English before and me also using basic Spanish), she then said, its usual to leave a tip. I said not that big (more than £10) and as Brits we usually only tip for good service not when people try and steal our change.

SuitedandBooted · 26/01/2021 00:04

I reckon a lot of this entitlement must run in families. Shocked at Lucieintheskye wedding one. I mean, how could the B & G not know that it's unbelievably rude to present your guests with a bill for everything, - including your dress! Surely any normal parents would have stopped them (and paid for stuff anyway? I can only assume they thought it was OK too!

There were definitely some who could have afforded it more than me, i know the two who said it was ok could. I think it was decided that everyone should cover it as there was no other solution.

Readeatcake · 26/01/2021 00:29

I suppose it does a bit but I think we were just fed up at that point of always footing the parking and petrol. I probably wouldn't have cared if they had been clear from the off they had no intention of splitting it with us.

Now we just don't do lifts and if we go anywhere with them tend to just meet them at the location.

Yeah I get it after all the others (the your car one is ...exceptional....)

OMG some of these people

GrandTheftWalrus · 26/01/2021 03:55

This thread has kept me entertained on a nightshift.

I had a friend who loaned me £10 in the pub, wanted a drink bought with it and then asked for the whole £10 back!

BlueThistles · 26/01/2021 04:30

love this thread 😂

Lucieintheskye · 26/01/2021 04:43
@Lucieintheskye - shitting hell. The CFs that keep on CFing! How do people go through life like this?! Honestly, did nobody tell them that that's not how weddings work? I couldn't let a friend/daughter or whatever of mine go through with that. I bet they don't get invited to many events though, on account of their fucking hideous rudeness.
I hope he asks your husband to tattoo him and your husband inks "I'm a knob" on his face.
The parents thought it was okay! They insisted it's only fair as the B+G had used up their wedding savings to pay for everything. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were happy to pay their bill though.

For some unknown reason they still have a lot of friends who would drop everything to help them, including most of the wedding guests who seem to have forgotten the wedding.
The groom's idea (emailed to dh's studio a few days after the wedding) was to have knuckle tattoos done- both 4 letter words on each. DH let me reply with my suggestions Grin
