I'm a nervy bee and thought it would be fun to watch with you all!

So basically we are going to focus on all the things we should have done 10 weeks ago. As advised by WHO and other countries that weren't planning on 80% of us catching the virus.

14 day quarantine for incoming flights. We can manage this now as numbers are lower. Of course we could have done this at the start before numbers were high. But let's not mention that.

Track and trace. What a novel idea. If only someone had suggested this at the start.

What a wanker.

derxa111 · 10/05/2020 19:19

How will they get the shielded staff/vulnerable staff back into schools?

Pineapple1 · 10/05/2020 19:19

If you're unable to understand that very clear speach then I worry about you.

Smithtylater · 10/05/2020 19:20

No mention of when we can meet with other households?

Sandybval · 10/05/2020 19:20

So DH can go to work (where social distancing is impossible!)

There are conditions employers have to adhere to in order to reopen. The real issue is that many places which could implement social distancing closed anyway, which has affected the level and length of support that people such as your DH will probably recieve.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 10/05/2020 19:20

What about nurseries?

LifeMatters · 10/05/2020 19:20

Utter load of shit!!!! 😡😡😡😡

StealthPolarBear · 10/05/2020 19:20

yearinyearout my understanding is that your loved ones from outaide the household can sit on a nearby bench.

Mawbags · 10/05/2020 19:20

North wales is fucked now then. Thanks Boris

Hopkinsscar · 10/05/2020 19:21

I think it’s more a case if they really need to keep lockdown going but they can’t because people keep breaking it so they are allowing a bit of freedom while the R is low and then as soon as it goes up again (which it will) they’ll do lockdown again in the hope people will stick to it for a few weeks again.

And rinse and repeat until the nhs wouldn’t be swamped.

BlackberryCane · 10/05/2020 19:21

But you can have more exercise

For the large majority of the population that's not the case. There already weren't any limits on the amount of exercise or number of trips that could be taken in England.

I would've hoped for something to be said about when we might expect to be able to have private gatherings in homes and when childcare settings might be able to reopen, even if it were to say there's no date yet. Those are really unhelpful omissions.

Bookoffacts · 10/05/2020 19:21

Not sure if go to work if you can't work from home means for
Callcentres
Hairdressers
Beauty industry
Shop workers
Librarians
Etc

crispysausagerolls · 10/05/2020 19:21

I thought it was a pretty clear and reassuring message. Good plan. Good to use a 1-5 system and revert back depending/stay flexible.

You never get this sort of air time with a PM unless wartime - I think he’s doing a very good job. I know that’s an unpopular opinion here but much better than Theresa May or Corbyn would have been. He’s certainly dropped the buffoon act.

StealthPolarBear · 10/05/2020 19:21

Speach :o

Utterlydespairing · 10/05/2020 19:21

If you're unable to understand that very clear speach then I worry about you

Exactly. I suspect it’s just because Boris said it though because no one can be that thick, surely

TheClitterati · 10/05/2020 19:21

Sounds like they are introducing the NZ lockdown levels system in England. - nearly 2 months after NZ introduced it.

Now we need specific details as to what each level entails

Swooningmonkey · 10/05/2020 19:21

Typically badly thought out...Dd1 will still be at home whilst Dd2 has to go to school.

Doesn’t help me one bit. Might as well keep them both at home.

Summergarden · 10/05/2020 19:22

I bet loads of parents who have children in more than one year group won’t bother sending the ones that are allowed to go back. Doesn’t seem worth the hassle if you still have to keep at least one sibling at home between school runs.

CodenameVillanelle · 10/05/2020 19:22

So DH can go to work (where social distancing is impossible!) but I can't go for a picnic with my sister, or visit my mum. I just don't see the logic in any of this. It's ridiculous

The logic is that your DH is being economically productive and potentially ceasing furlough payments whereas you seeing your mum benefits nobody but you and your mum. I'm not saying it's fair, but it's logical

Teateaandmoretea · 10/05/2020 19:22

I would've hoped for something to be said about when we might expect to be able to have private gatherings in homes

I think the answer to that is never. It risks covid being passed on but doesn’t help the economy.

YummyVeggie · 10/05/2020 19:22

Is there any restriction on how far you can travel? Could I go back to my empty(!!) uni house to get books etc for exams?

MintyChapstick · 10/05/2020 19:22

Why is North Wales fucked?

Oysterbabe · 10/05/2020 19:22

I really hope nurseries are included in the first phase of return. Why do they never bloody mention nurseries?!

HarryDaylight · 10/05/2020 19:22

It was ridiculous and patronising. Walk or cycle to work? He knows how busy the London tubes are going to be for everyone trying to get to work who don't have the luxory of a short travel distance.

ragged · 10/05/2020 19:23

public toilets reopening would be nice

yes I know they were allowed to stay open, but councils closed them anyway.
