I'm a nervy bee and thought it would be fun to watch with you all!

Minty.
Everyone will drive there for days out

1forsorrow · 10/05/2020 19:23

What does travel to other destinations mean? He needs to be clear about that, if it is left to interpretation there will be chaos for the next bank holiday, particularly if they head to Devon and Cornwall where our noble leader, I mean Chief Constable, will interpret travel to other destinations as meaning go home you aren't allowed out. The road blocks on the M5 will be fun.

TabbyMumz · 10/05/2020 19:23

Mawbags

"North wales is fucked now then. Thanks Boris"

Why do you think that?

ABucketOfShells · 10/05/2020 19:23

I can’t believe it. He has said he wants reception, year 1& year 6 to go back first. Absolutely no chance will my year 1 be going back any time soon, nor my youngest due to start in September but emailed to defer until compulsory school age. The youngest primary children to go back with distancing and masks, going to be terrible for their mental health. I’ll remove them and reapply at a later date if I need too. Disgraceful.

Chig · 10/05/2020 19:23

Certain parts of the country won’t be pleased people can now drive there.

StealthPolarBear · 10/05/2020 19:23

Yes presumably we're allowed to carry out non-essential journeys now.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 19:23

Waffle waffle. Staccato. Bullshit. Primary school. NHS. BLA BLA. BLA.

Reactions

  • Why is he not prioritising yr10 and 12?
  • is the thinking yr2-5 can more easily go to a childcare setting?

Do the general population actually get this?

Why is North Wales fucked?

Because now many, many people will drive there for their exercise.

Viviennemary · 10/05/2020 19:23

So are garden centres opening or not? Pathetic. If there was an election BoJo would be out.

GrimmsFairytales · 10/05/2020 19:24

Doesn’t seem worth the hassle if you still have to keep at least one sibling at home between school runs.

I suspect many will think the same. Also no mention of nurseries opening, so the same could also apply.

crispysausagerolls · 10/05/2020 19:24

bet loads of parents who have children in more than one year group won’t bother sending the ones that are allowed to go back. Doesn’t seem worth the hassle if you still have to keep at least one sibling at home between school runs

Yeh - not worth it at all for your children to receive some education. Silly education!

PinkSpring · 10/05/2020 19:24

Why didn't he mention anything about seeing family - I think this is something most people are really struggling with and having a huge impact health - and he didn't even cover it at all.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 10/05/2020 19:24

Told you schools would be open 1st June

No! He said they MIGHT be open.

I thought it was a good speech. Unfortunately he does tend to expect people to have a certain level of intelligence and capability to understand that this is still a variable situation.

After all he has always been very clear about the “same household” stuff but there are lots of people who choose to interpret that as “family” because they are too stupid to understand the difference between household and family.

salemcat · 10/05/2020 19:24

Watching with interest from Scotland as how this works out for you. Hope it all goes well 👍

LemonPudding · 10/05/2020 19:24

Really, really bad acting.

Janleverton · 10/05/2020 19:24

So, trying to apply the waffle to specific situations. Could my 17 year old theoretically go to the park on Wednesday and meet friends, while maintaining the 2-3m distance between them? Would that be allowed?

Why not year 12s back pronto? Smaller class sizes and old enough to know about social distancing.

SpokeTooSoon · 10/05/2020 19:25

Where did he say children to wear masks???

AldiAisleOfCrap · 10/05/2020 19:25

@BlackberryCane
For the large majority of the population that's not the case. There already weren't any limits on the amount of exercise or number of trips that could be taken in England.
The guidance was once a day, the majority of people didn’t need that to be law care enough to keep others safe.

Jux · 10/05/2020 19:25

I don't want to be alert. I want to be a penguin.

Hoggleludo · 10/05/2020 19:25

@Bookoffacts

If. IF the rate of infection keeps slowing. IF!

If everyone goes out and forgets all the social distancing. Schools won't reopen in June.

It's a big bag of IFS!

SpillTheTeaa · 10/05/2020 19:25

I don't think it's a good idea to allow people to travel to where they want to now. Well that's what I got from it anyway. The R Rate is going to increase I think in tourist area. I feel for the people who live near beauty and tourist spots Sad.

smokescreen · 10/05/2020 19:25

So. More of the same really

Coffeeislife04 · 10/05/2020 19:25

What an absolute waste of time that was bloody muppetHmm

Janleverton · 10/05/2020 19:26

NB she’s a very sensible 17 year old who has entirely followed the rules so far.

Livelovebehappy · 10/05/2020 19:26

As clear message as it can be. Obviously everything is dependent on the figures coming down, which means EVERYONE needs to adhere to the rules. Glad about the increased fines. I think some were so sure that a lot of the lockdown rules would be relaxed that they’ve been flouting them over the weekend.
