I'm a nervy bee and thought it would be fun to watch with you all!

OP posts:
happyandsingle · 10/05/2020 20:01

So if you cannot work from home go in....But fails to mention that 80% of the workforce that applies to are in industries that are not allowed to open yet eg hospitality, hairdressers etc. So a pile of shit basically.

MinnieMe1 · 10/05/2020 20:02

Can workmen come into your house if the 2 metre is adhered to and we stay alert?

chomalungma · 10/05/2020 20:02

You can walk on the beaches, and on the landing grounds, you can walk in the fields, you can walk in the streets and in the hill

@HarryDaylight because the power for those decisions in Scotland etc is devolved to them . So they can do their own thing .

CodenameVillanelle · 10/05/2020 20:02

Why does Boris's changes only apply to England? Is it purely down to ££££ because most of the worst Covid-19 hit areas are there

Because wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland have devolved parliaments.

Jellykat · 10/05/2020 20:02

Am aghast that Boris didn't properly discuss those details delivered tonight, with Welsh and Scottish ministers beforehand!

What happened to working together??

CodenameVillanelle · 10/05/2020 20:03

So that means shops then?

Some shops were closed by the government and others weren't. That hasn't changed.

crispysausagerolls · 10/05/2020 20:04

Did people miss that fines will be increased if people are dicks and break rules

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 20:04

If you cannot work from home and you work in an industry that hasn't been forcibly closed by the state, you should be going to work as normal

Incorrect. IF you are able to go to work, do so. Many industries were not forcibly shut down, but deemed it unsafe for their workers and the public to work as normal, so shut down... or their clients took that decision and closed projects down.

It is not a matter of 'do it, unless the government stops you', it is still very much a case of 'please do IF you are able to do so safely'

HomerDancing · 10/05/2020 20:04

@chomalungma no!

Non essential shops were told to close by the government, along with bars etc etc, there has been no change to that.

worriedandannoyed · 10/05/2020 20:04

Those who want nurseries open - sorry but they're probably bottom of the list. Nursery age children aren't missing vital education like school children are. My children don't go to school for childcare, they go to learn

Fros · 10/05/2020 20:04

They should have changed the slogan to:
Go to work: control the financial loss: protect the rich('s investments)

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 20:04

Can workmen come into your house if the 2 metre is adhered to and we stay alert?

They always could.

JKScot4 · 10/05/2020 20:04

Maybe some ppl will wake up to the fact he doesn’t give a shit.
It’s embarrassing on the news sites ppl
praising him and comparing him to Churchill.

OneMomentInHistory · 10/05/2020 20:05

Can workmen come into your house if the 2 metre is adhered to and we stay alert?

They always have been able to. Now they're encouraged to.

Focusanddetermination · 10/05/2020 20:05

Jellykat probably because they would have requested more than the vapid piffle he just put out. Might have applied one iota of scrutiny, asked him to properly explain how certain things would work, for example.

katgreen · 10/05/2020 20:06

We found this video somebody made to explain the lockdown, it kept my kids busy during Boris's speech

What do you guys think of the schools reopening for some year groups?

MinnieMe1 · 10/05/2020 20:06

I ask if workmen can come in as we are waiting for an adapted shower room for our disabled 5 year old. I am REALLY struggling. The council said that they couldnt do it as the suppliers are closed

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 10/05/2020 20:06

Nursery age children aren't missing vital education like school children are. My children don't go to school for childcare, they go to learn

That's marvellous if you aren't expected to go to work yourself and are lucky enough to be furloughed/work from home. Very short sighted view

Peppafrig · 10/05/2020 20:06

@VerticalHorizon only in England. In Scotland all non essential work was not to be carried out and this is still the case today.

TabbyMumz · 10/05/2020 20:06

Jellykat

They do that every day...they are all in the cobr meeting? Why did you think they wouldnt be doing so?

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 20:07

They should have changed the slogan to:
Go to work: control the financial loss: protect the rich('s investments)

We NEED the economy. We still have next year's NHS to pay for, the year after that... we still have hospitals and schools to build.
Financial collapse costs lives too.

It's a very delicate balance. Whether we have the right balance is a matter of debate, but we absolutely do need the economy to be as strong as we can reasonably manage.

vanillandhoney · 10/05/2020 20:08

So that means shops then?

No. He specifically said shops COULD open from June 1st IF it was safe to do so.

I swear some people were watching a different speech!

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 10/05/2020 20:09

but things like automatic doors and contact free taps take time to organise

And they’re totally unnecessary! They don’t even have those in hospitals. Just have a top notch cleaning regime!
