I'm a nervy bee and thought it would be fun to watch with you all!

OP posts:
Noextremes2017 · 10/05/2020 19:53

He didn't mention what they are doing with all the Ventilators that were ordered in the thousands in a blind panic.

Anybody know which warehouses they are all going to be stored in?

Lemonblast · 10/05/2020 19:54

Dear God and MNers think of themselves as intelligent.

I strongly suggest that a few of you rewind and rewatch the speech. Pause when required if you are a bit hard of thinking eg the bit where he says ‘Only with members of your own household’ means what exactly? No you CAN’t go and see family.
‘Go to work if you can’t work from home?’
Does that mean that hairdressers are open? No because people shouldn’t be going to the fucking hairdressers. Leave your house if you have to work, essentially shop, attend to health needs or exercise. THAT message hasn’t changed!

Lack of critical thinking skills is staggering.

Mamamia456 · 10/05/2020 19:54

Tabbymumz - I think businesses have been given safety guidelines to work by so if they can adhere to the guidelines, ie social distancing then if employees can't work from home they can go to work.

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 19:54

@CodenameVillanelle

He said IF you can go to work

Obviously furlough is still in place and childcare may be an issue for some . But for some families one member of the family may be able to get back to work but NOT in every industry.

Social distancing and mixing with other households has not changed .

That was clear

BlackberryCane · 10/05/2020 19:54

I'm not sure why people aren't sure why others are confused. If you were, for example, a hospitality worker with young children needing them to be looked after once you're expected back to work, you'd have come away still in the dark as to whether that would be possible and how you could balance the two competing demands. This should be pretty obvious to anyone who's thought about it at all.

Peppafrig · 10/05/2020 19:54

@CodenameVillanelle so what happens to all the employees who don't have childcare till schools and wraparound care open? Hundreds of thousands of parents have been told to go back to work while childcare isn't back. Will they be allowed to stay on furlough ? These questions need answered.

Noextremes2017 · 10/05/2020 19:55

What a bunch of fucking morons we have for a Government!!!!!!

Sandsnake · 10/05/2020 19:56

Poundland Churchill indeed!

You can walk on the beaches, and on the landing grounds, you can walk in the fields, you can walk in the streets and in the hills... Grin

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 10/05/2020 19:56

It was fairly clear to me, being outdoors is less constrained but still only within your own household, manufacturing and construction, you needn't have shut in the first place (they did say that initially), just implement social distancing. Don't use public transport unless necessary to get to work (few construction workers do anyway), if you all take the piss and the alert level goes up we'll implement more stringent lock down. IF the level continues to drop (R+total infections) , we MAY be able to move onto further easing of restrictions such as some school year groups going back. If he didn't say it is not happening, eg garden centres, hairdressers, lunch with your mum.

Succinctly put!

Whattodo1610 · 10/05/2020 19:56

He’s just opened the floodgates to go back to square one .......

We’re allowed out to exercise, sunbathe fgs, etc .... so basically everyone now will just txt mates to meet up in various places .... easy to meet up, lie on the grass/beach 2m away and chat. Absolute fuckwittery .....

Laughed out loud at must go back to work tomorrow!! Nothing like giving anyone time to work stuff out Grin

CLEAR AS MUD - VERY OPEN TO INTERPRETATION ...... We’re doomed.

MinnieMe1 · 10/05/2020 19:57

Can you go to a holiday cottage?

Showchin2 · 10/05/2020 19:57

*What a bunch of fucking morons we have for a Government!!!!!!
*
Completely agree

CodenameVillanelle · 10/05/2020 19:57

I would expect that they would stay on furlough until the scheme ends. Some employers will take the piss but we do have universal credit in place for those who lose their jobs during this period.

doctorboo · 10/05/2020 19:58

It’s looking like my DH will be made redundant once his furlough ends (big boss has been chomping at the bit since lockdown started to get rid of 99% of the staff - a tale in itself), which is...well, shit. But as we’ll have one child at home while the other two go in and I’ll be back working in a school if my job’s still there we’ll see how it goes!

flowerycurtain · 10/05/2020 19:58

"Anybody know which warehouses they are all going to be stored in?"

Happy to rent him the 3 of mine I am fairly confident I'll see empty to due the company going bust by June 25th when the next quarter rents are due.

carlywurly · 10/05/2020 19:58

No it wasn't clear, despite the Tory bots on here saying otherwise. It's not our comprehension issues, it was vague and ambiguous.

Employers have not been given notice to expect this, despite what he said then. God knows how they're going to get measures in place for anyone arriving tomorrow. What happens with those shielding? Ssp isn't going to sustain families for very long. Furlough is going to have to end. What about those in the hospitality industry who are currently furloughed?

We have already ordered loads of equipment for our workplace to make it safer but things like automatic doors and contact free taps take time to organise. We're bloody lucky we can all work from home while we sort it out.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring some clarity.

Tellmetruth4 · 10/05/2020 19:58

Don’t like the bloke but I understood what he was saying and more detail will be provided tomorrow. Easing lockdown will be a tricky process and some businesses have been too keen to furlough staff when they didn’t have to. Still don’t like the ‘Stay Alert’ slogan though. Too wish washy.

CodenameVillanelle · 10/05/2020 19:59

We’re allowed out to exercise, sunbathe fgs, etc .... so basically everyone now will just txt mates to meet up in various places .... easy to meet up, lie on the grass/beach 2m away and chat. Absolute fuckwittery .....

He didn't say people could do that though. If they choose to, they are breaking the rules

Laughed out loud at must go back to work tomorrow!! Nothing like giving anyone time to work stuff out grin

Can go back from tomorrow. Doesn't mean have to.

CLEAR AS MUD - VERY OPEN TO INTERPRETATION

No it isn't. If people break the rules because they want to that's not because the rules weren't clear.

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 19:59

Lots of construction DID need to shut down. Some didn't. It's very complex and wide ranging industry.

Grendlsmother · 10/05/2020 20:00

Do what you want ... go to your friends' houses... we are all carriers of it... the the hell out of the way and stop moaning if you're worried.... oh ... it's coming ....
Wait for the middle class furloughed smug families with gardens and unlimited internet to explode. Wait for those being paid to work from kitchen tables in houses where each child had their own room to rant and rave.
Wait for those with Sky and Netflix and money to order books and garden furniture and other essential items to tell me what real life is like

justasking111 · 10/05/2020 20:00

My friend owns two holiday properties, no changes at all, not a chance of booking until they get the go ahead.

chomalungma · 10/05/2020 20:00

If you cannot work from home and you work in an industry that hasn't been forcibly closed by the state, you should be going to work as normal

So that means shops then?

HarryDaylight · 10/05/2020 20:00

Why does Boris's changes only apply to England? Is it purely down to ££££ because most of the worst Covid-19 hit areas are there.

VerticalHorizon · 10/05/2020 20:01

Going out to exercise and keeping a safe distance is ok...

Arranging a meet with mates under the auspices of doing a bit of exercise at the same time is 'arranging a meet' - NOT ok.

Folks know when they are looking for a damn loophole.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 10/05/2020 20:01

This is what people are doing, distorting the information given to suit their own belief system, priorities and desires
