OP posts:
TabbyMumz · 10/05/2020 19:49

Chomahe was clear, he said manufacturing and construction.
He said like construction ......so if you cant work from home you can now go to work...but people have been doing that already

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 19:49

@MarthasGinYard

Omg you are having a laugh aren’t you ?

I give up .

Noextremes2017 · 10/05/2020 19:49

So - Rolls Royce - get back to work producing engines for planes that Boeing and Airbus are not going to build because the Government has totally screwed the Airline industry.

Don't these Twats understand how business works?

Jammydodger6 · 10/05/2020 19:50

Did anyone really think there was going to be more lifting of restrictions today? I think the message was clear (still unanswered questions but that was because they weren’t addressed). From what he did address, I thought it was clear.

Will hear more tomorrow.

On another note, my DM just rang. Said she was at her friends house watching the conference. She stated it was ok as they were ‘social distancing’ in her lounge. Then proceeded to say ‘I’m an intelligent person, I understood what he was saying’. Honestly disappointed.

Smellbellina · 10/05/2020 19:50

he knows perfectly well that people will therefore be crammed into public transport.

He made it quite clear public transport services will be adhering to social distancing, I imagine in a similar fashion to supermarkets.

Peppafrig · 10/05/2020 19:50

Does that mean children of construction, manufacturing etc will now be classed as key workers children and get to attend school. If your work opens tomorrow and no childcare what are you meant to do?

Mamamia456 · 10/05/2020 19:50

Larrygrlls - Gyms definitely not. He said that you can play sport with other members of your family so technically you could play tennis together if outdoor courts are open.

vanillandhoney · 10/05/2020 19:50

I'm not sure why people are so confused, really.

If you cannot work from home and you work in an industry that hasn't been forcibly closed by the state, you should be going to work as normal.

If you work in an industry that has been forcibly closed, you carry on as you have been.

You can (from Wednesday) go out and take unlimited exercise - either alone or with members of your household. You can also go out and sit in the sun or on park benches if you wish. If you want to drive further afield to take exercise, you can do so.

nuttymomma · 10/05/2020 19:51

I'm a Tory voter and I thought that was completely unclear and a pile of shite.

butterpuffed · 10/05/2020 19:51

If he didn't mention it, it's not changing!

Exactly ! Why don't people get that..

justasking111 · 10/05/2020 19:51

I would think that because he mentioned hospitality opening up in July if the stats. are good that surely we would be able to meet up with family members then.

Noextremes2017 · 10/05/2020 19:51

Car factories - go back to work to produce cars you can't shift because your distribution channels are still closed.

This Government is fucking clueless.

JamieLeeCurtains · 10/05/2020 19:51

Maybe if Johnson could avoid the "backstage fisting Norman Lamont" hand gestures it would help his audience focus on his words. Oh wait a minute ...

flowerycurtain · 10/05/2020 19:51

I think that was clear and good.

Possibly biased as I have a reception age child!!

But on a serious level they have to play a very tight balancing act between health and the economy.

I manage a business park with about 15 diff business on. Mostly manufacturing or supplying industry. The owner occupiers have trundled along fairly safely. 4 of the bigger ones furloughed all their staff and closed the doors. 3 of them could easily work 2m apart (think 4000 sq ft of industrial space and 8 employees or mainly outdoor like tree surgery.) it's those types of businesses he meant - they should be trickling into the economy not creating a river out.

Clarity on nurseries and childminders would be great but hopefully that'll come tomorrow.

Flinstones · 10/05/2020 19:51

The very little he mentioned was clear but there is an awful lot he didn't mention & he should of done! We were all wanting a lit more than that!! I do not understand the thinking of sending R yr 1 & Yr6 back first??? R & yr 1 will never be able to social distance & Yr 6 no matter how unfair & sad it was to leave primary like they did, primary is over. There is so much more he should of mentioned!

CodenameVillanelle · 10/05/2020 19:51

No, construction workers etc are not essential workers and will have to stay home if they don't have someone to look after the DC

Focusanddetermination · 10/05/2020 19:52

Peppafrig precisely. So what do you do if your employer insists you must be at work but schools don't have to take the kids, tomorrow morning.

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 19:52

Oh of course it’s the government and not the virus .

He is trying to balance the economy and a deadly virus . Is that not what people wanted .

He explained the criteria and measurements .

PorpentiaScamander · 10/05/2020 19:52

Widowodiw

No your kids can’t go park in their own. Clearly said can go park play sport but have to be in family unit.

Huh? So my 15 year old can't go to the park on his own? Why not? Surely have to be in a family unit means he can't meet his mates. Not I have to go with him Confused

cushioncovers · 10/05/2020 19:52

He said The workplaces need to be Covid secure so if they aren't then they can't open. So that's no retail, no leisure, no entertainment, and no dining until at least July.

MarthasGinYard · 10/05/2020 19:52

MarthasGinYard

Omg you are having a laugh aren’t you ?

I give up .

Sadly not on wise one

....

Have a feeling we will see the Peak District and Snowden jammed again

KuckFnows · 10/05/2020 19:52

I'm with you SusieOwl

It's embarrassing for people who claim to not understand, it was very clear.

🙄🙄🙄🙄

YeahWhatevver · 10/05/2020 19:53

Wonder how far people will push the boundaries on driving to exercise.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 10/05/2020 19:53

There will be a fifty page document released tomorrow with the detail people are querying. It was a ten minute public broadcast.

It was fairly clear to me, being outdoors is less constrained but still only within your own household, manufacturing and construction, you needn't have shut in the first place (they did say that initially), just implement social distancing. Don't use public transport unless necessary to get to work (few construction workers do anyway), if you all take the piss and the alert level goes up we'll implement more stringent lock down. IF the level continues to drop (R+total infections) , we MAY be able to move onto further easing of restrictions such as some school year groups going back. If he didn't say it is not happening, eg garden centres, hairdressers, lunch with your mum.

TheFuckingDogs · 10/05/2020 19:53

Peppafrig - amazing question! We are stealing g that for our letter to our MP, WTAF completely ridiculous waffle
