Piper1879 · 10/05/2020 19:31

@mumthedogsbeensick me too ! No word from my manager or boss since I've been furloughed 🤦🏼‍♀️

BBCONEANDTWO · 10/05/2020 19:31

Regarding going back to work and social distancing - surely someone who owns a business should use their common sense and have been trying to sort this out prior to lockdown easing. The government can't bloody check every business.

DivisionBelles · 10/05/2020 19:31

I'm confused. Can people travel within England now, ie; go on a domestic holiday?

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 10/05/2020 19:31

@Elmerrrrrrrr nurseries May reopen 1st June

Was everyone else listening to a totally different statement?

Movinghouse2015 · 10/05/2020 19:31

Janleverton bo you're 17 year old cannot go a f meet her friends at the park. You can exercise as much as you like with people from your household.

My 17 year old sat and watched the briefing and understands this Is the message. She looked at me and said 'mum you can't go to the park to see your partner'.

I'm hoping tomorrow there will be a plan on the future for small gatherings with others outside our household.

Cantbelievethebias · 10/05/2020 19:31

The message couldn't have been any clearer.

Jeez. Some of the comments on here are astonishing....

Nb89 · 10/05/2020 19:31

The school reopeningbis a hit if a red herring. He set out what they Might do IF the R level.and NHS is ok.

It's somethng on the horizon and subject to to change. Imo its not something to bank on and agonise over the detail yet (if your desperatel to get your kids back in school or to worry about if youre nit keen to send them back. Its too soon. So much can or might not happen in the next three weeks.

Hopkinsscar · 10/05/2020 19:32

He said nothing about masks in schools, you scare mongerers! Kids in school atm aren’t wearing masks, nor the staff.

So back to work if you can't work from home, what about child care? Be vigilant? Look out for the invisible virus ? What about transport ? Yet another pile of pants from the government. The news presenter on C4 news said no.10 had been tweaking the announcement all day but it seems it was recorded yesterday. It's beyond a joke & will cost more lives.

GabsAlot · 10/05/2020 19:32

hes really pissed off the other ministers not making it clear he meant england only

nothing surprising in that speech just hope people dont think it means its over

midlifecrash · 10/05/2020 19:32

Who gets to decide whether your job can be done from home and whether the social distancing measures are adequate? Why details tomorrow when he fucking recorded this yesterday?

bumblingbovine49 · 10/05/2020 19:32

Well I loathe Boris but even I thought it was clear. It is just that I think people on here were hoping for more changes.

Also I do think they shoui have changed the slogan because at the moment we are supposed to stay home as much as we can.

Iwantacookie · 10/05/2020 19:32

So I can go have a picnic in the park with my friends and dc as long as were both 2 meters away from each other and the rest of the world whose gone there now?

Just felt like he had to make up his word count.

SusieOwl4 · 10/05/2020 19:32

@Strangerthanstrange

No . Social distancing and unnecessary journeys has not changed?

It’s about getting more people back to work if possible . There are thousands of different jobs and employers who have to make their own risk assessments .

TabbyMumz · 10/05/2020 19:32

"Outdoorsybynature

Can we drive somewhere for a walk now?"
Yes. In England you can drive wherever you like for a walk, just not into Wales. In Wales you can only drive locally.

GrimmsFairytales · 10/05/2020 19:32

nurseries May reopen 1st June

I don't recall nurseries being mentioned. He only mentioned reception, Yr1 and Yr6

Marsalimay · 10/05/2020 19:32

I'd guess that the point about schooling is that schools can't take all pupils and students due to social distancing. They are prioritising younger years on the basis that it gets their education off to a good start. (For example, students who can read and have engaged with formal learning are more able to study independently).

Allowing year 6s in will allow them to have endings and to prepare for transition.

Year 10s and year 12s are the next exam groups.

Mybrowneyedgal · 10/05/2020 19:33

No news about when we can see family again?

chomalungma · 10/05/2020 19:33

So basicallly we can go out now to shops that are open..
And businesses that are open?

Smellbellina · 10/05/2020 19:33

It was perfectly clear but people do like a moan...

OpthalmosVerde · 10/05/2020 19:33

Listen to Keir Starmer on BBC1 now - simply pointing out all the massive holes in what’s ‘announced’ and explaining how & why this is all so unclear.

My first confusion is this: if you can’t work from home, you should go to work TOMORROW.

I thought that if you couldn’t work from home, you have been going to work anyway. We have been. Unless your workplace is closed, either because of government restrictions on shops, hairdressers, restaurants etc (which haven’t been lifted) OR because the business isn’t currently economically viable so everyone is furloughed as an alternative to bankruptcy/redundancy, and that won’t have changed either, because people still can’t come out to use your business.

If someone who thinks there is nothing confusing about that part of the announcement could explain, I’d be interested to read. As far as I can tell that is no change - people were already going to work if their work is open and they couldn’t work from home. So why announce it as a change?

LizzieSiddal · 10/05/2020 19:33

Ht was quite clear only people from the same household

He wasn’t clear though was he? There was so much waffle and distracting hand gestures, it was difficult to get the messages he was trying to convey. Mad let’s not start in the utterly crap visual aids!!

Lemonblast · 10/05/2020 19:33

Anybody still watching the report from ICU ?

Summergarden · 10/05/2020 19:34

I wouldn’t have thought that hair or beauty salons can reopen yet because there’s no chance of adhering to social distancing?
