I'm a nervy bee and thought it would be fun to watch with you all!

OP posts:
BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 10/05/2020 19:28

The youngest primary children to go back with distancing and masks, going to be terrible for their mental health.

Masks weren’t mentioned! Did you watch a different broadcast?

Gallacia · 10/05/2020 19:28

@HMSSophie if you can work from home, he has urged you to continue to do so.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/05/2020 19:28

Don’t think they have changed the rules about meeting people/families.

Will be a 50 page document giving more details.

Does seem strange to say go to work tomorrow if you can, without giving employers a chance to ensure workplace is safe.

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 10/05/2020 19:28

So, trying to apply the waffle to specific situations. Could my 17 year old theoretically go to the park on Wednesday and meet friends, while maintaining the 2-3m distance between them? Would that be allowed?

It was quite clear only people from the same household

justasking111 · 10/05/2020 19:28

Nothing about visiting family. I am heart broken so wanted to hear those words. Sad

Jellykat · 10/05/2020 19:28

Anyone driving to Wales for any reason will still be fined!

The Welsh rules are more or less exactly as before.

ABucketOfShells · 10/05/2020 19:29

He didn’t, but my understanding is that is what teachers union are saying masks for them and potentially children. I appreciate ppe snd social distancing is the only safe way to reopen schools, but absolutely awful for children’s mental health. I can’t understand why an earth he thinks the youngest should be first back. Mine certainly won’t be.

Janleverton · 10/05/2020 19:29

Suppose with holidays, have to be mindful that naff all will be open in terms of cafes, shops, restaurants and pubs. We are supposed to be going to Cornwall in May half term. Can’t imagine that we will, because while we could have lovely beach and cliff walks, shopping for food would be tricky in small shops locally and I’m aware of local concerns. We are fortunate in that it’s a family place, so nothing lost financially. But does this mean that people renting from holiday lets won’t have any comeback financially - I.e. they could go, it’s up to them, therefore the letting agency won’t be flexible or refund?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 10/05/2020 19:29

I think he is great, and doing the very best he can.

Tellatale · 10/05/2020 19:29

Basically all those going for a picnic or playing footie in the park won't now be told off!

Amongst other things, I want to know if I'm going together pulled over and bollocked for driving 10/15 miles to buy some fencing or other thing I might not be able to get locally?

Mumthedogsbeensick · 10/05/2020 19:29

I work at an opticians do I have to go to work tomorrow? I'm so confused.

CodenameVillanelle · 10/05/2020 19:29

Children won't be wearing masks at school Hmm

People really need to understand that this is relaxing lockdown by stealth. They expect people to make up their own minds on a lot of it and intend for us to. If you don't want to send your child back then you won't have to. If your employer wants to open and is allowed to then you need to go to work. Cases are going to increase but will they spike as high as they have done? I don't know. I don't understand the statistics enough.

TabbyMumz · 10/05/2020 19:29

"ViciousJackdaw

Why is North Wales fucked?

Because now many, many people will drive there for their exercise."

No they cant, because the Welsh rules are stricter. In Wales you can only drive locally, so people cant drive from England to Wales if it's not local.

Widowodiw · 10/05/2020 19:29

@HMSSophie what? They don’t have to go in tomorrow. You will be expected to put in social
Distancing measures and be Covid-safe so no ones going in tomorrow. I work in retail and we’ve been told it will take 10days to get colleagues in, brief them and that is when we have already put the physical measures in place.

People are pulling apart his speech but you need to watch it again as it was quite clear to me. Also he did say more details will be released tomorrow.

LarkDescending · 10/05/2020 19:30

The Guardian says they understand the detail on the immediate changes will include the following:

“...people in England will be allowed to sit in the parks within their household groups, to drive to beauty spots for walks and take unlimited amounts of outdoor exercise. People will be able to meet and sit down with a single other person outdoors as long as they stay two metres apart. Angling, swimming in lakes or rivers, tennis and golf will all be allowed if people are sticking to their household groups.”

StealthPolarBear · 10/05/2020 19:30

Outdoorsybynature

Can we drive somewhere for a walk now?

Yes, he definitely mentioned that

Tellatale · 10/05/2020 19:30

Me too @justasking111 😥Thanks

Janleverton · 10/05/2020 19:30

Changemynamechangemyname

Thanks. I have to say that I don’t think his specific message was entirely clear on that point.

Pelleas · 10/05/2020 19:30

Good point just raised on BBC - what happens for Welsh/Scottish people who work across the border in England?

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 10/05/2020 19:30

People can drive to North Wales all they bloody well like, the police will send them packing. They've been doing it for weeks and if they slip through the net then the locals will tell them in no uncertain terms to fuck off home.

Why we've just been told we can go to the beach....

Ghostlyglow · 10/05/2020 19:30

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel you are joking, right...?

Elmerrrrrrrr · 10/05/2020 19:30

Why do they say nothing about nurseries and early years settings?

LindainLockdown · 10/05/2020 19:30

No sorry Janleverton but we still need to stay within our own households and your daughter should not be meeting up with her friends. I know it is crap for her, I have a 17 year too, but we are still very much trying to keep R rate down.

hellotoday27 · 10/05/2020 19:30

No much said about secondary. Pleased to see reception going back but not much of a guide for secondary.
My thinking is secondary kids use more public transport plus as most teachers in a secondary school teach years 10 and 12 they would need all staff in so it would be a bit chaotic . Whereas in primary you just need one staff member plus TA or possibly they will split classes and use teachers from other year groups to cover so can see that it might be more practical.

chomalungma · 10/05/2020 19:31

Basically all those going for a picnic or playing footie in the park won't now be told off

They will if they are from a different household.
