The new slogan - Stay Alert....

Alert to what? Is the virus going to break into our homes?
Listen out for someone coughing then run a mile from them.

What on earth does Stay alert actually mean?

At least Stay home made sense stay alert means nothing at all or AIBU?

@Mummyoflittledragon

Yes, yes I know the script. All the dimwits out there that can't think for themselves have to have it spelled out for them, after all look what happened when they were asked to vote on the EU. It's so patronising.

Anyway we are having this conversation here, on Mumsnet. We all know it just another excuse for you all to moan and whine.

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 16:06

Barbara
I’m talking about the headspace / skills and/or inclination etc to access information. I’m not being ridiculous.

Nettleskeins · 10/05/2020 16:08

Ive no idea what it means.
Insomnia?
No slacking?
Turn your phone on?

No more homebaking

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/05/2020 16:08

Genderedwitch
No you are putting that slant on it, not me. People, who are scared generally don’t think with as much clarity as those, who are not. It has nothing to do with Brexit.

madcatladyforever · 10/05/2020 16:11

It is absolutely meaningless and ridiculous and meand everyone will do whatever they want until a massive 2nd outbreak hapens and the army will be called out to make sure people stay at home.
Absolute rubbish.

ScribblingMilly · 10/05/2020 16:17

Stay alert to the risk that may be around you. Remember the advice you've been given & put it into action. Start moving on with your life cautiously, is what I take from that. But I'll wait & see the details.

hopelesschildren · 10/05/2020 16:20

stay at home, hm yes, but what about all the exceptions. Not very clear to me.

anxietrist · 10/05/2020 16:25

More coffee less wine?

Sleep with one eye open?

Don't have kids because then you will be permanently distracted and wondering what it was you were about to do/say?

Thymelord · 10/05/2020 16:26

Its nonsense, total bullshit nonsense. People have decided for themselves that lockdown is over, this will reinforce it and people are going to die.

VenusTiger · 10/05/2020 16:26

Be on your guard/don't let your guard down, stay alert to handwashing, not touching face and keeping a safe distance.

OneOfTheGrundys · 10/05/2020 16:30

‘Stay alert’ to me means ‘no one’s actually holding the rudder on this one so you’ve all got to look out for yourselves. Don’t count on anyone else to do it for you.’
Or more simply, who knows?
I feel actual despair if I think too hard about our leaders.

anxietrist · 10/05/2020 16:30

I've got an image in my head of someone dressed like a ninja in a face mask, creeping around then stop, dropping and rolling when someone coughs, before leaping up and squirting them with dettol - is that what it means??

Namesgonenow · 10/05/2020 16:30

I think it could be the name of the new contact tracing app : NHS Stay Alert or something and today is some form of big reveal. If not that I think it means fuck all.

OneOfTheGrundys · 10/05/2020 16:32

@Thymelord yes-that too. And by extension, I’ll carry on with my own lockdown until I’m sure it’s safe as no one else is behaving sensibly.

SomewhereEast · 10/05/2020 16:32

Stay Alert isn't great, but the meaning isn't that unclear surely? Its reminding us to maintain distancing and hygiene as restrictions slowly ease. And Stay at Home was actually pretty terrible too & created so much unnecessary anxiety and curtain-twitching around the issue of outdoor exercise (which is ridiculously low risk - prolonged close contact in confined spaces is the big issue. I reasld a lengthy explanation by an epidemiologist on this recently citing a host of sources). I think Stay Apart would've been much better, more consistent & easily adapted to the transition out of hard lockdown.

OneOfTheGrundys · 10/05/2020 16:34

And also... how could they press ahead with something so absolutely laughably rubbishly unclear?
Maybe Boris will bumble in and magically make it all crystal later on today.
Or maybe not.

Deelish75 · 10/05/2020 16:38

I think it means be aware that you could come into contact with the virus at any time (when not at home).
Personally I don’t like it I think something about being responsible would have been better - keeping 2m apart, wearing a mask when keeping 2m isn’t always possible such as on public transport or in shops etc.

3cats · 10/05/2020 16:41

I just can't wait for this press conference. I bet they are all scrambling like mad right now.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 10/05/2020 16:44

@emilybrontescorsett
Perhaps we should start hiring teenage hoodie wearing boys as a deterrent GrinGrinGrin

Overseasmom100 · 10/05/2020 16:48

Means you are not as restricted but must be on your guard to follow distancing, Washing your hands, stay home if become ill

mondaynoon · 10/05/2020 16:52

It means they can't afford to pay for people to be furloughed anymore. It means those who can work from home (usually higher earners) can stay at home if they want to and keep safe. Anyone else needs to put their kids in school, get back to work and hope for the best. It means if your job no longer exists because you worked in a restaurant or for an airline then you are unemployed and may have no choice but to take on any work that's going.

WizardOfAus · 10/05/2020 17:03

In Scotland the message is still Stay at Home . I foresee a bit of confusion ...

If you live in Scotland, you stay home. It’s very, very clear.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/05/2020 17:04

Even the message is a joke. It appears to mean different things to different people. No wonder Nicola Sturgeon had decided not to use it.

Of course don't forget that only England are using it. Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland aren't using it.
Only England.
Where the second wave will hit. Ah well...I'm gad I am from Scotland.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/05/2020 17:07

I actually feel pretty sorry for the people in England as they bow to pressure from business forsaking health.
I feel sorry for the ones that are staying home and doing everything they can to be shat on by Boris from a great height.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/05/2020 17:07

When I mean they bow down, I meant the Tories.
