The new slogan - Stay Alert....

Alert to what? Is the virus going to break into our homes?
Listen out for someone coughing then run a mile from them.

What on earth does Stay alert actually mean?

At least Stay home made sense stay alert means nothing at all or AIBU?

Is this sense as far as I’m concerned it means nothing. Ok we can all stay alert for signs of illness which we have been for months now but as it is known many people can be asymptomatic then you can’t be alert to something you don’t know is there.

I think taking the stay home part away at this point is going to cause confusion

3cats · 10/05/2020 10:23

I think it means that if someone coughs or sneezes, you should all dive for cover. Is that right? Maybe we need a diagram.

Stopmenow123 · 10/05/2020 10:24

It just means don't become complacent. Its very obvious to me.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 10/05/2020 10:24

I reckon stay careful would have been a better bet. Agree that staying alert makes it seem like it's a threat you can see (when you can't unless someone is looking very ill)

Weallhavevalidopinions · 10/05/2020 10:26

Indeed.... it makes no sense at all...

No doubt someone spent a lot of time moving the message from STAY HOME to STAY ALERT.... but why exactly....it seems pretty pointless really

Maybe the virus emits a noise if it comes close to you and so if you stay alert you will hear it and avoid it....

Pointless and stupid message really

It's a weak and ambiguous message that will mean different things to different people and is open to all sorts of interpretation !!!

Ridiculous, I fear this will lead to more unnecessary deaths.

RaininSummer · 10/05/2020 10:26

I read that as staying vigilant with hygiene and distancing. Haven't actually heard this yet myself.

sobeyondthehills · 10/05/2020 10:27

It means, I should get a gun and start doing shifts with my partner looking out for zombies with I am COVID19 written on their t-shirt.

I am buggered if its an invisible virus

walksen · 10/05/2020 10:29

Means our government is obsessed with meaningless slogans that make no sense which once again has not been discuused with devolved leaders.

Bit like the original "fight back"

So why change the message then? Don't become complacent so continue staying home then?

Since pictures in London and other areas show many people not socially distancing and some parts of the country very busy then stay home stopped working and so stay alert won't work either.

CakeAndCrisps · 10/05/2020 10:30

Maybe theyll explain when they release it, hasn't it been leaked early?

I would guess it would be stay alert to social distancing, to the need to handwash frequently. Stay alert to to the constant risk and don't let your guard down and become complacent, as many seem to be doing.

WinWinnieTheWay · 10/05/2020 10:30

Ears pricked, eyes scanning and nose twitching on the look out for germs.

I suppose that they are concerned about complacency.

GoFiguire · 10/05/2020 10:30

I was never a Lert in the first place, so how can I stay one? What even is a Lert? Is it like a Phid?

Weallhavevalidopinions · 10/05/2020 10:31

Yet another pointless and meaningless slogan which is completely open to interpretation and so everyone reads it differently

OP posts:
BruceAndNosh · 10/05/2020 10:32

The country needs more Lerts

BarbaraofSeville · 10/05/2020 10:34

Stay alert to the symptoms and take appropriate action (self isolate, get a test if possible).

Maintain social distancing when out and about,, plus hand washing.

On a national level, monitor the numbers to make sure the number of cases doesn't start to rise.

Seems pretty obvious really.

DominaShantotto · 10/05/2020 10:34

It means I need a coffee. Ideally Costa

Apparently Boris was ahead of the curve.

SellFridges · 10/05/2020 10:35

They are trying to challenge complacency. And move on from the blanket stay home, because the science is saying that is now possible and should therefore be allowed.

NotInTheMorning · 10/05/2020 10:35

It means that in each household there should be at least one person standing guard at all times in order to wrestler any invading germs to the ground like a mugger. You’ll probably need to come up with a rota and sleep in shifts. If you live alone then there’s no other option than black coffee and shit tons of amphetamines but the important thing is constant vigilance.

CakeAndCrisps · 10/05/2020 10:36

It isn't pointless it is the next step. They have too keep it brief and simple, a paragraph wouldn't be of use at all.

Stay alert, the risk is still very real and present. I understand it means be aware of the danger. What would you suggest?

Weallhavevalidopinions · 10/05/2020 10:36

Ah... it's not going to be unveiled until this evening.

I see all will become clear when our esteemed leader lets us know what he means by 'staying alert'..... personally I am hoping that they have some supersoaker type spray whereby you spray a person next to you and it they turn green they have it ...it they turn purple then they have recovered and if they turn pink - virgin untouched by Covid-19

OP posts:
VickyEadieofThigh · 10/05/2020 10:37

It's total and absolute ambiguous nonsense.

my2bundles · 10/05/2020 10:38

I'm waiting to see what happens at 7pm. The government haven't announced anything yet (media jumping the gun yet again)

Weallhavevalidopinions · 10/05/2020 10:39

I vote for the late shift because I'm not really a morning person.

Thanks for the clarification I will get the children's rota sorted out ready so that we can act immediately the message is communicated to us tonight - thanks for the headsup 🍻

The meaning is obvious....

Take the virus into account when making decisions. Be mindful of the potential dangers. Make your own judgements about risk, taking into account social distancing.
