By not paying for Mumsnet Premium and using an ad blocker. Is that ‘not paying my way’ as Justine Roberts suggested on the MN premium thread in Site Stuff?
Does this make me a freeloader, if I still use MN and just block the ads? Given I only use the talk boards where content is produced by users, where does this stand in the MN freeloader stakes?

mumsdotchat isnt all that, its like all the other ones out there, you either like it or not? personally, its a shady ripoff of mumsnet, but sure it has edit and quote, which would be great, but what else does it have? not much, mainly people posting "so glad to have escaped mn" as if you are forced to stay here

I think mnhq have only driven desire to know the ID of the other site by deleting and forbidding its name on here.

A Feminism board where you can speak biological truth, for a start. That's a massive advantage.

I am a member of both sites - something completely within the rules of both - and get something entirely different from each site so I see no need for conflict between the two and no need for competition.

However, this thread is about Premium membership of Mumsnet. I'd consider the Premium fee worthwhile if I could state biological facts on here without fear of external censorship. But I can't. So I post those on the other site instead.

Several well know racists have defected (thankfully!) from MN thereto. Maybe it’s a conspiracy to encourage people to pay for that 🤷‍♀️

MN doesn't provide a service, it is a place to go, like any other site that has discussion forums. A service costs money, usually something is received in return. That is where the business subscription model has not been received well.

I think MNHQ were relying on the goodwill of posters, and fair play to those who have signed up for 'Premium'

The call for subscribers was not worded well at all. It doesn't really offer anything in return from what I can see.

I will not be subscribing but I do like it here. I like the wit, the advice and largely, the atmosphere. The FWR boards alone, are worth reading.

I’m on both sites and enjoy them both. I don’t see it has to be a big rivalry between them. Marie if the racists are there they’re not being racist on there.

I don’t ever notice the adverts on here, I’m on my iPad but not the app, and the only adverts I get are a banner across the top and a couple at the side under trending posts. I just enlarge the page to the conversation text only and then don’t see any adverts.

And I had a look, one person was active on the site. One person. I think it was me. That was on the main board too.

That’s why I posted. I’ve tried the site twice, recognised posting styles and dog-whistles and won’t be going back. One of them stalked me for well over a year, I know the posting style backwards!

Yes, I was taken aback by that sweeping statement too, Wheresthesanitygone. I spend more time over there than on here nowadays and have yet to see anything that could be remotely described as racist.

I think on MN the definition of being racist is very simply "not that keen on Meghan Markle". I am assuming there is other stuff in the background, as with She Who Cannot Be Named but writes baby books and was apparently great publicity for MN, along with the couple who went on holiday in Portugal. Litigation is bad for business.

@Bluntness100 just been to have a nose around, and there was 110 people online when I was there, so small, but not an echo chamber.
Not had a chance to fully investigate, but it could work nicely in tandem with MN. It doesnt have to be one or the other, does it?

I like MN but haven't signed up for the premium membership. I do have the adverts but never click on them - the companies who advertise on here don't interest me.

I will stick with MN though. I've been here a long time and am a creature of habit.

I am nosy though, and watched the different Reddit subs springing up and closing down.😂

The other new place - definitely not for me. I took a look at a couple of threads and won't be revisiting.

So I suppose I'm not paying my way but am still hanging around.
